Bear was in desperate need of a little makeover after coming back into work and getting rather hot. She has a rather dramatic mane cut, which is the first time it's been touched in 3 years, and then has a little clip too. It seems my hairdressing skills have gone downhill a little, as I wouldn't say it's my finest work...

Im 100% on the side of cutting mane with scissors, if its done well you can see a difference, and it has been proven that pulling does actually cause horses pain/stress
I cut my horses and pulled it a bit after bc of how thick it is but totally agree
I agree but pulling my pony’s mane actually calms him ❤
Always heavily exercise your horse before pulling mane, it opens up the follicles for easier hair removal👍🏼
I cut and i have thining shers to make it look pulled but I don't like pulling
I honestly thought Pulling a man was left in the early 2000s 😂😂 But I guess the UK is a little old school on that. The same with the cutting of the tail hair all the way at the top, the one that makes the tail look all thin and weird 🤦♀

Amazing to see bear slowly making a return! Love these kind of unserious, funny vlogs.
Tip, if you rake, turn the mane over and rake the underneath, that way the short bits are under, that's what I used to do so no one would know I cheated and cut instead of pulled.

Hahaha I miss those pony makeover moods that you lose all energy for halfway through 🤣 The trick with a comb + scissors you alllmost started doing really does work! You need a comb with much closer and longer teeth though, and push a couple of layers up then leave the comb stuck in the mane while you do a first cut, take the comb out and blend the rest in👌

I loved how fluffy she looked beforehand, but I'm glad that the cut will let Bear be more comfortable as the weather warms up. The shave is wonky, but I think the mane came out really well. I'm so excited to see her return to the channel!!
Oh the pain of a beautiful thick native mane! My childhood pc pony was a welsh x shetland and let me tell you hairdresser’s thinning scissors are your friend!

Reminds me of when I decided to use my freshly bought dog clippers to 'trim' my springer spaniel and the first cut I did I put a valley between her ears 🫣🤣🤣 I had to then give her a full clip... my husband thought we had a new dog when he came back from work 😂😂😂

You 100% need to keep Bear. With your other horses you have big ambitions so have to have some level of seriousness while training them every time. With Bear you can have so much fun without having to worry about any of that and just enjoy the madness. I imagine it can be quite easy to forget to have fun along the way

If you are using the trimmer, don't go against the hair. Go with the hair, I use them, and going the hair will take off the same length as the cilpper. This could be different for other trimmer, but I have used the same ones as yours 😊

OMG this was hysterical! Reminds me of me and my friend when she kept her horse at my place. We had THE BEST TIME doing random, mundane things just like this. You guys are lucky to have each other. And Bear looks FINE. I mean, could it be more refined? Yeah. But SHE doesn't care, and she will be more comfy. And she definitely no longer looks feral! WIN!

Meg, please buy a solocomb it gives the illusion of a pulled mane without being pulled - no more scissors needed and it's so easy and no sticky up pieces that raking gives :D
I'd have used good quality thinning scissors as they give a more natural edge than ordinary scissors, but definitely agree that cutting the mane is better than pulling it.

I do exactly the same thing with my horse's mane - I hate pulling and with a couple of days you can make it look just as good without causing them discomfort. Sometimes traditional ways of doing things need to die when there's a better solution available!
Left handed scissors for manes I’ve found works! Rake it over, then chop then re rake 😅

Ha! I did the same to my guy's mane today. (Also named Teddy. and 1/2 Welsh D) We aren't going anywhere and I have quit pulling manes. Quick and easy and no stress. His fall clip is very close to Bear's, just a little higher up his barrel.
I tend to use the clippers on my fells mane. Scissors don’t touch the size 😂

Knotty Horse Apricot Oil Detangler works miracles!! I don't know if it's available in your part of the world, but I highly recommend it, if you can get it.
Pulling thins the mane and many horses actually like it. But some don't and I respect their wishes. My part bred Welsh hates having his mane even brushed so I use a soft brush gently through it. I could never pull it, he would cry, which is why it is past his neck but looks beautiful. No plaiting for him.

I never pull my horse’s mane - he absolutely hates it - regular-ish trimming and snipping up into the mane ends and I don’t think anyone would know it’s done by scissors - the odd mistake grows out pretty quickly🙂
Omg this is so funny, I’m all for scissoring manes 100% but this technique is erm yea😂😂 I’ve got a video on my Chanel, I cut the length then chop up into it to thin and take the weight out the end and stop it looking blunt🙌 bless little Bear though she’s so good🥰🤩
