What an amazingly good boy he was, quite incredible for such a young horse well done Mushu. The young woman who clipped him did a wonderful job, she was very kind & patient. 👍

This is the problem with hairy cobs; the same goes for a lot of our native breeds in the UK as well. It's like, it's fine to weather out the winter since it doesn't usually get super cold (and if it does snow, they're prepared for it), but with the climate change going on and having milder winters, it's pretty hard on them. I advocate for clipping for comfort taking off as little as you can, but sometimes they need that little bit of extra help.

Our Teddy-bear boy looks all grown up. Love how she did his legs. I've seen Gypsy cobs clipped and hogged and the feather gone and though it's tidy and easy to keep clean, I don't like it. I suspect hogging the thick long mane does help in keeping them cool because I notice locally the gypsy ponies do sweat under the mane. This clip really shows off the feather. Good job! And Mushu too. He is a STAR!

He looks really handsome. Such a well mannered and calm 3 year old for getting his first clipping. A true gem of a horse AND trainer💕 it’s nice for people to see a horse being clipped, different styles and why. The equine beautician Mushu seemed to like. Was waiting for him to give a good roll in the pasture 😂 do you think since he gets a bit sweaty and his new summer adventure of being broken in, would he utilize a cooling blanket/back wrap? Free Spirit always puts a smile on my face no matter which horse or what you all are doing; even on the tough days there’s always something to share. You’ve made some of my tough days lighter and definitely helped to improve my laughter/smile lines! I can’t begin to thank you enough and thank you for helping others on their equine journey. Shae, your new mentorship program that you are offering is such a great idea. Your vast knowledge and experience that you have acquired over the years of owning and training horses is truly invaluable to others who are horse lovers like yourself. Thank you for being so open and willing to share your expertise with others so that they can be the best that they can be as well. I know that your program will be a huge hit with other horse lovers and it will bring a lot of well deserved praise for you and Free Spirit Equestrian!
Mushu was such a good and patient boy for his first grooming session! This is proof positive of all the love and kindness you show each and every one of your horses and the amount of time that you spend with them. They know that they never have to worry about any harm coming to them when you and Kyle are around. I was very interested in finding out what was under all that fluffy fur and he is just stunning! I love his coloring and unusual patterns that truly shown through after his trim. The woman that groomed/trimmed Mushu did an excellent job and helped to keep him calm throughout the entire process. He didn’t seem phased at all at the sound of the electric clippers and he seemed to really enjoy the attention. When he showed his pleasure with his lip movements I laughed out loud!
Thanks for another great video - Mushu certainly deserves lots of yummy treats after being so good for the groomer! 💕😊🐴👍💕

Mushu did awesome! I'm sure he feels so much better now. His run to the pasture was adorable!
In the summers here in southeast FL, horses have to be clipped and their manes braided daily to stay cool. Some owners have them in their pastures/paddocks at night and bring them in during the day with running stall fans and plenty of hay. As an owner you have to do what's best for the horses. And you do Shae! So wonderful to see as you teach others all things equestrian❣️

I was surprised that he hadn't shed out in the spring, and normally clipping is frowned on for this breed, but really apparent that it was necessary. Finally, I have to say that the clip really shows off his cobby build! He is a real prize.

My Norwegian Fjord has Cushing’s & I’ve got to clip her yearly, as she does not shed out her winter coat. Last year I got body clippers & that speed up the process tremendously. I used my regular clippers for the more tricky areas. A few good things to remember is to oil the blades frequently, grease the clippers where needed, make sure the blades don’t get too hot, run thru blade wash occasionally while clipping, then re oil, it will give you longer life of the blade before having to sharpen them. I actually did a second clip on her in August & she still got a full coat for the winter. Fjords shed their summer coat in August, so I just sped up the process. She spent all but 3 nights outside during our western New York winter, with no blanketing. She has a deep run-in available, but spends most of her time outside. She tolerates the clipping well & I am planning on doing her tomorrow. We had a Fjord gelding we sadly lost 2years ago, he also grew a great mustache! I like that you work with people on finding the right horse for them & don’t push them into a specific breed. I taught beginner’s at a top rated hunter/jumper barn & not all horses work for all people. (And boy did some of the lesson string take students for a ride, not a good thing!) Thanks for sharing this video, it was great seeing the end result, your boy sure has some color!

@Free Spirit Equestrian Love the way you use resources ~~ you get a professional, horse-loving clipper as you don't like to do that. I myself would be afraid of the buzzing ~~ this professional uses both hands though she favors the left.
A second view of this great vlog: I think that's related to which part of the horse she's trimming, like the feather or the booty. It is a specialty ~~ which hand to use for which body part. I'm a little dyslexic and sometimes reverse my left and my right.
Used to go to Super Cuts, but the hair stylist didn't know how to layer the hair and instead would cut a straight line. It turned out all zigzagged. Now there's a new name for your next equine, Ziggy or ZigZag. Kyle's good with names like Buzz Lightyear. Maybe a new theme for you, in addition to Disney names?! 😀

I always shaved my hairy beast. Love them clean. I was surprised she didn’t use wide blades for the body. It is much faster.

Sorry, but the mustache is not my bag. If you like it, that is all that matters.

We used to call whiskers on horses their " curb feelers" ( these rods that are springy that put on cars to tell them where the curb is at so you keep the proper distance from it lol) we had a gelding that would use his whiskers to barely touch the electric fence to see if it was on lol..( he loved to open all the stalls, then the main gate.. so we installed electric fence on the main gate. He learned to get close see if it was on..if it wasent..hed let himself and others out . But, he also used them to not bump into things in the dark. I think whiskers are cute
