With so much welding and grinding, you can use the BuildAndRepair Mod (Nanites). It will help you to grind down all your salvages as well as keep repairing your ship. Also I have seen, that if any Drones or ships come in range, it will grind them away. They start from the important parts first, like weapons and thrusters. Also they recover all the stuff from your death crates as well. While grinding if your inventory is full and you start dropping stuff, it recovers automatically.

You could name it the Torpedo Trombone with the way it curls up on itself... heh. That extra large thruster you have, I'm thinking it would be handy to have as additional GTFO-FAST thrust. Mount it up near the front so it's not getting targeted as easily. Perhaps include it on the EC that activates the proximity warning lights. That thruster is normally off, but proximity warning turns it on so it's ready to use if you have to get to top speed quickly. Don't forget to turn your turret AIs back on (unless you did that off-screen or in the time-lapse). You got some H2, a bit of ammo, and lots of steel & components. I'd say it was a decent haul.
Finally caught up with this series after watching every episode over the past few weeks. Sorry for laughing while you were trying to work out how to build the nest of pistons, I do it so often now that I think I could do it in my sleep. Must admit I've never done it on a small grid though. Currently have a mine on Mars made up of 4 groups of 5 pistons digging a 29 block diameter hole straight down. Must admit I'm looking forward to seeing if the torpedo idea works
