One of the best drummers of all time, a great guitarist and stings ability to play those basslines and sing how he does is amazing.
Those chords are devine Andy summers was and still is an outstanding musician
Why people asking for TABS? Andy shows you exactly what to do slowly. There was no Internet when I learned guitar,I sat there and toyed. People need to learn to do the same. It's a perfect instructional video
I agree. I knackered at least three VCRs by keep rewinding and then having a go myself until I found the notes
Agreed. Relying upon tabs for everything, as some clearly do, directly interferes with ear development. It also obscures understanding the fretboard and both seeing and hear intervals. He’s doing developing guitarists a favor by not spoon feeding it.
@@zplapplap Absolutely. We really are a spoonfed society that just wants all the answers straight away (probably due to The internet/ Google and the ability to find everything out instantly)
The only way to truly understand an instrument is to meddle with it and search for those answers. It's amazing what you come across inbetween.
Instruction is always important but people need to sit and put in the hours if they want to learn. That's how I learned to transcribe which became a big part of teaching for me
I disagree. You don’t need tabs if the instructor explains what he’s doing but this guy doesn’t explain what he’s doing.
YES! More Andy plays Andy! Great lesson on one of the most under rated guitarist of all time.
Bonjour
Merci Andy pour cette chanson de Police , les parties guitare d'Andy Summers sont vraiment excellentes sur tous ces titres du trio .
Great guitar invention Andy is great - actually both of them.
alright! somebody else noticed that! and andy summers' licks ain't easy.. he loves those BIG stretches!
the one big thing about the Police is the fact they would write songs based on the same overused corny progressions, but add something to it, like some cool chord extension, or mix those progressions in some peculiar way that it sounded anything but banal. they truly 'understood' what writing catchy songs was about thanks to their theoretical background and at the same time coulddo something way more than this. i know people with no taste enjoying their music, and accomplished musicians as well.
Love these PGS Riff's of the day. Awesome addition to the pedal demo's. Keep up the good work!
You are the best replicator of contemporary guitar masterpieces I have had the joy to watch. Capture the feel and tone of the piece perfectly. Inspiring
You can tell he was trying not to laugh when he said the song title.
So good!❤
More lessons please. Love your reviews, but this is super cool too!
I love these Riff of the Day vids! Now I have some Thickfreakness and Cinammon Girl in my repertoire. Can't wait to see the rest.
Hi Andy
Thank you for this and for all of your Videos!
This is a really innovative way to demo your products. Keep up the great work Andy, and PGS!
Perfect!
beautiful and a nice G&L I need to get me one, I have a ton of strats but Love G&L's.
Talent wise all three members of the Police are unreal, as for song writing that is open to opinion. I personally enjoy them and wish i could play or sing half as good as those guys
Good instructional video, and like the slow down version... We can apply this to other songs as well. Thanks Andy !
Fantastic- thanks!
JAHBLESS ❤
PGS, now serving all your wedding cover band needs
Thanks, I'm so gonna learn to play this!
The appregio part of this song is my favorite part.
Awesome job!
Yeah!
Brings me right back to 8th grade!
Beautiful playing, as usual.
Nice.
Cool man! Thanks
Great song choice!
Can you guys put all your (Riff of the Day) videos in a playlist so future viewers can practice by clicking on the playlist instead of looking for the videos mixed with all your other videos.
It cracks me up that you guys use more correct gear in this than your article on Andy Summers. Seriously, fire the guy that writes those and hire me.
Andy has such a radio voice, anyone?
Am I the only one that laughed my ass off after reading the title of this one? 100% Hilarious, but yet again another amazing little riff lesson, lovin' it.
That's the song title
riff of the day? more like entire song ..thanx great lesson. i too, thought it was a heavy chorus..ps: what brand fx does Andy use or used i should say, during his yrs w/ the Police..? thanx again..
Cool
I like that G&L, how can I get my hands on that model?
Thanks Andy, I would ask that you add the fingers of the positions you are playing for the chords. Thanks!
Today, I just finished building a clone of a vintage Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress from the late 70's. Like all vintage Electric Mistress's, the heart of my Mistress is the beloved Reticon SAD1024 BBD IC chip which is almost impossible to find these days.
As soon as I finished building it, I plugged my guitar into the Mistress whose output went straight to my amp (no other effects or distortion was used). After a few knob tweaks, I was immediately blown away by the sound of this flanger and its ability to nail The Police sound as well as many of the songs from Pink Floyd's The Wall. Simply put, this pedal alone is like having Andy Summers in a Box!!!!
I now see why guitarists, especially those who are fans of The Police and Pink Floyd, are willing to shell out $400 to $500 for a vintage Mistress that is in good condition. This pedal sounds awesome.. My next project, which I've already started along with a clone of an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi, is a clone of a vintage MXR Dyna Comp compressor (also used by The Police and Pink Floyd). I also plan to build a vintage Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Phaser. Electro-Harmonix made some great pedals in the 70's and early 80's. I regret waiting so long to add them to my pedal board.
+MrCamelneck Can you show it off to us?
When I say dododo in search bar, I found this.
This song has two riffs right? The beginning one and the one right at the verses no?
Carlos f Torres V Me gustó la canción pero me parece que este link es más bien playback porque no cuadra con la afinacion standar que por ahí debería comenzar me cuadra el puro efecto chorus
Andy, do you pretty much know all the songs you play in the pgs videos? Or is this the approach you always take?
I think I got the " D D " part ok
chickeee that’s the only part that he actually explains. ‘Two stabs of a D chord’ Ah yeh ok , thanks for that.
i figured out it was an A chord that kinda plays with being an Asus2 and Asus4 before the "beautiful " E chord that has an F# note thrown in (I don't think it's a suspended because the third is still in it...)
Nice work, but Andy you left out the arpeggio 'solo' section. Anyway, fun song to play, brings back great memories.
Hey man firstly, I love your videos and Iv learned so much from your playing and discussion. I have a question about this song perhaps you can help me. In the second part that begins roughly 27 seconds in the song (palm muting part)...I notice the pattern Andy is using and no instruction or tab makes that part have the same variance ...do you think this segment may have been edited or doubled? You can really hear what Im talking about if you listen to the isolated guitar tracks from the original recording. Iv been driving myself crazy trying to capture that odd alien sequence of notes....all of the instruction iv seen only captures the basic idea of the pattern but its missing the notes that keep changing during the sequence making it complex (to play) while sounding simple. Please forgive my description and but I hope you know what Im talking about...any insight would be very helpful. Cheers and thank you!!
that may just be the effect of the phaser pedal.
That Electric Mistress is the s***! Alex Lifeson had one also way back when ...
you are right my bad
settings; facing stomp, Rate 10 o clock, Range 7 o clock (zero) and Color 12,30 (between 12 and 1 o clock) will get you there :) a EHX EM Stereo will not do the trick on any Police tune or Pink Floyd etc, it's a whole different pedal
Please play "Every little thing she does is magic" POLICEI
Is that a pick? Whaaaa?
So there's no phaser involved?
Andy's face reminds me of Chris Cooley. Nice videos. Recommendation on the pedal plugs, you might want to show a quick shot of the settings you actually used. Not too tough to figure out on this song, it is just an idea for others.
He reminds me of Ant-Man 😂😂 but with an excepcional guitar playing style
Play Corduroy by Pearl Jam next.
yes your the only one :D
If he's using a flanger and not a chorus pedal on this, what flanger settings does he use? I can't get a flanger to sound like this
If it was the Electric Mistress, he would have used less feedback (color) which is key in making a flanger sound like a chorus. Some flangers call it Regeneration too.
@@ProGuitarShopDemos I noticed on the recording he uses so much of the effect some notes sound out of tune to the ear.
Bought the pedal the next day... BTW, is there ANYTHING this guy can't play???
Hey man- what about the bridge section!
It's called Riff of the Day ;) These lessons were mainly to get the tone nailed down with whatever pedals I could use off the shelves. Thanks,
Andy
Thanks for using a pick so us non finger pickers can follow better.
But is it True Bypass?
this, walking on the moon, roxeanne
De Do Do Do + Faithfully = Purple Rain
I literally cannnot see what chords he's playing with his hands. A list of the notes in each chord would be helpful. Moving on to a video where someone actually teaches the video.
Dont be lazy
You get better at seeing it with practice.
To be honest lol.
That's one way to let everyone know you're a quitter lol.
@@hh4826 quitting something pointless is actually healthy and smart.

@KILLERDOOM
The Police is the only band that used chorus in an acceptable manor?
Hmmm...I've never met anyone who likes Andy Summers but NOT Alex Lifeson.
Their use of lush chord voicings and polychords is quite similar.
I love The Police and Rush's use of chorus.
:/
manbag?
When are you going to start selling those invisible picks you play with?
;)
Your guitar is...?
Name the chords correctly sir, the E chord is a ????
Cool....small chord diagrams would have been even cooler!.
s
What about the rest of it ? You miss a bit out , might as well put it in to complete the song eh? Eh?
no tab wtff
Jesus is the truth…
TABS TABS TABS WHERE IS THE FUCKIN TABS!!
police use alot of chorus and strats to get there sound on alot of songs
dont sound right to me mate
+Rod Amo It is right.
