This is probably the most unique boss fight from any mario game. Its a race to the finish. most 2D mario games are just a huge bowser in the background while you climb up to the top. the devs put so much work into this nostalgia pack of a game.
3d world's final boss uses the exact same formula, so it's not that unique. also, that "huge bowser in the background while you climb up to the top" boss fight literally only happened in NSMB2, and nowhere else.

The nostalgia trip is real. I love how I remember beating this when I was about 6 on my 3ds.. Those where the good times. I remember being really sad that I had to let Bowser go into the lava, I was always sad that he had to be beaten in the Mario games when I was a kid. Funny how because of that he is my favorite character in the Mario series.
I definitely can relate to that, except I was 11 when this game came out, the Bowser battles were always fun but I'm so overly empathetic I always feel a little bad dunking Bowser into the lava, and I feel a little bad for most other video game villains.
I've always liked the villas more than the heros. And I think bowser might be a cause of that. Most of the time, villans are way cooler than heros. Plus dunping him into lava does also make me feel bad.
I seemed fun to me. I didn't wan't Mario to defeat Bowser then rescue Peach again. So instead I jumped pass her, dived down the sky, and brought me back to the beginning of the Final boss level (With Bowser alive once again). Problem solved! 😁👍
Can’t believe it’s been over 8 years ago since this game was released. I remember playing on my 3ds and this was one of the best experiences plus don’t even get me started on how amazing that soundtrack is.
First time I played this, I hit the button to collapse the first bridge and thought "hm, that's odd, the boss music is still playing, must be more to the battle". Then Bowser jumps back up and I'm like "WOAH! Holy shit!" as a purple fireball comes screaming past me. Then the race to the finish.
The phase 2 of Bowsers attack are for some reason just cool to me. Like his fire balls/breath has been clad in magic. Too bad they have a shitty hitbox, as we could see from the video. He was inside the fireballs many times. Otherwise, they're terrifying, but still cool
This is my fav final Boswer fight, especially when he's Dry Bowser. I love this fight so much that when I get to the end I'm like screw saving Peach, I'd rather fight Bowser again then I'll jump off

4:51 those fireballs are beautiful in 3D. They look like giant white denjin hadoukens💯 it's because bowser is halfway dead from the first part of the fight... so his fireballs are a cross between his standard fireballs and dry browsers... The dead version on bowser!
Damn, I wish I still had my 3DS, it came with this game pre-loaded on it, and it was my first Mario experience ever. I remember struggling with figuring out how to defeat the Goombas until my parents told me I had to jump on them lol
@Jack Smith Well, Mario was using his strength occasionally on Bowser. Like he would hold the koopa's tail and spins around until he lets go and flung through the air. He could even lift the King Bomb Omb. I'm pretty sure Mario doesn't need strength if it's necessary.
That was the funniest Bowser death to me. How it turned from a dramatic fall to just him being hit with falling rocks twice and spiraling down. Just pure genius.
After playing 3D World....i honestly gotta say that 3D Land has the better boss fight. The climb up is more challenging. The breaking blocks makes you want to keep moving more than the Auto scrolling of 3D World. The final sprint in the second phase was actually epic and scary. Sure having Multiple Meowsers trying to hurt you is kinda epic but it never fully scared me like 3D Land. While the music in the first phase of Meowser is pretty dope, the music in 3D Land just....hits different bro. I honestly struggle to remember the second phase music for Meowser. 3D World is the better game, but 3D Land got the better final boss.
Beat this for the first time while my mum was clothes shopping and I was sitting on the edge of a display table because clothes stores never have chairs. Definitely a core memory for me.
I have an absolutely clear and vivid memory of playing this boss/level on my 3DS and being stunned by the scale and epicness brought with it when I was a kid. Truly one of the best video game experiences I've had.
Love how at 4:53 - 4:57 the fireballs are in sync with the swells of the trumpets when they come towards the screen. And I kind of felt that fireball at 5:13. Wow what a battle you really had to move in this one or Bowser was gonna CRUSH you! LOVE IT!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Such a great boss fight. Its a shame this game got shadowed over its WII U counterpart 3d world. Both excellent games but 3d land still stands as my favourite

Underrated, I grew up with Mario 3D Land, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team (Along with Paper Jam), Mario Kart 7, Mario Party Island Tour, New Super Mario Bros 2, And a few other games like that on my 3DS, so these are nostalgic
It's so much fun to just play those games again sometimes, same with the original DS games and the GBA games I have.
