Hey everybody, finally getting back to more heavy duty guides and tutorials, I missed doing these and I know a lot of you subscribed for these so here is the first in the return. I took a unique approach to this one, I know a little rough around the edges but I think combining the scripted overviews and strategy talk with live commentary on all his moves worked well. I know this is a long one so I appreciate every one of you that took the time to sit through this! Any feedback would be much appreciated, please let me know anything I missed because no guide is perfect, for example, I didn’t go deep on throws because there isn’t much to them. I went over the down throw combos and that’s it, the other throws are very standard. Any other feedback or tips drop it below and I’ll heart it for visibility! Thanks everybody!
Here's something that I've figured out. You can fake the input for buster wolf and just dash in and get a free grab. It's a tricky thing for the opponent to try and counter
@@firstname623 You just crouch twice. People see that and panic against Terry, so it usually means a free grab or shield break depending on the circumstance
What, crack shoot is amazing. It's great for catching jump spammers, it's better than burning knuckle for recovery, and it's fantastic to add after an f-tilt to rack up damage. D-tilt x3 into f-tilt into crack shoot is true on low to mid percents and does 30-40 damage depending on input and rage. If it whiffs you cross up (which burning knuckle absolutely does not always do) making it safe to commit to. F-tilt into crack shoot is my main way to fish for damage in neutral on lower percents.
Also jab iab power dunk is overrated. You can sdi it pretty easily in higher percents. Dtilt-light burn knuckle and jab jab tru rising tackle are better kill options.
Dash-walk d-tilt can be used as a tech chase and cross-up, so depending on weight falling up-air>SH down-air>nair>d-tilt>f-tilt>DW d-tilt>up-tilt>Power Geyser might work (I have not tested this but it seems doable since dash-walks make Terry dash a touch farther)
I just wanted to say thanks for making content such as this. It is most certainly helpful for people such as myself who are looking to pick up this character. I've got the Banjo-Kazooie on the burner right now, so I feel that Terry is really good for those seeking a nice change of pace while also dishing out insane damage outputs.
If you charge Rising tackle while you do other moves people don't realize you're charging it you can do so many insane combos I used to use that in Street Fighter days with guile
Here’s a tip for the short input power geyser and buster wolf inputs: use a pro controller and slide the analog stick in the directions of the inputs. It has worked for me a million times. Also don’t use GameCube controller for the short inputs. Also here’s a combo: d-tilt to jab jab to power dunk cancel into final smash
Funny how these "short inputs" are actually harder when you really think about it That's all it is folks Sliding and curving the stick very fast Doesn't take that long to learn if you try and do the exact way
I feel terry struggles a ton with swordies more often than zoners(besides min min). Then again I keep on use the special move that propel him across the stage more often than I should.
More knockback and slightly more damage. As long as you stay close to the ledge you can go offstage and cheese the crap out of people with it (but DO NOT TRY IT WITHOUT SAVING YOUR DOUBLE JUMP)
0:58 "This comeback mechanic makes Terry one of the most entertaining characters to watch" THANK YOU! Captain Falcon isn't the hypiest character, Terry is! Thank you for recognizing this! Finally someone else who does!
In combos in tournament i see people do the true input for up b and like i feel like you have to hold it for a long time so how so people do that also i see them do it without fast falling to recover so how does that work?
I know this video is old, but the information is so valuable and displayed so clearly. In conjunction with Riddles' guide, there's nothing stopping you from being the best Terry you can be in ssbu.
My question is do you use inputs for combos. Whenever I use inputs it’s usually the one time move because if I use inputs I seem to fumble around with the control stick for too long. I’m new to terry but am ok at inputs, just not in combos. Should I keep practicing input combos or just use the B button????
Practice inputs, because they will always give you the most damage and you will basically kill earlier. Literally every single special I do I always input out of muscle memory and nature, other than Up B (but I still do charged Up B when I’m up against a tricky edgeguard) and neutral B which just doesn’t have one.
I might be a year too late, but what I do is do the input while the move before that is happening and press a when it ends so the input attack is performed right after, for example I press forward on the c-stick while simultaneously input buster wolf in the analog stick and when the f-tilt is done I just press a and it buffers the move as soon as possible :))
I'm struggling a lot with terry, i feel like i'm only doing the same thing over and over and i'm really predictable and boring, i don't know how to handle the caracter :(
Well for starters I recommend turning c-stick tilt on. It’s what makes most of Terry’s combos true. Also there are many aerial openings that work mid percent such as nair into dair. There’s also such stuff as falling nair into sour spot dair into nair into burning knuckle which can kill if hard inputted. Then we have his Go which you can use falling u-air into dair into nair which follows into forward tilt into buster wolf. There is this player names riddles who has a full tutorial. If you ever needed help I could show how to play him in an arena.
Bong Choi I mentioned it in the video, but I make a point to always do the full animation instead of the “shortcut” I find it much more reliable. That said, practice makes perfect. Hit up training mode and do it till ya nail it!
Bong Choi no inconvenience at all, it’s just something that takes a bit of effort to get used to. I remember when I started traditional fighting games with Street Fighter IV I struggled with it for a bit too, after some practice it becomes second nature though, no worries!
For buster wolf, I would say just practice to do the input normally, but for power geyser, you can get away with doing 2146 (Down, Diagonal back, Back, Forward) instead of the regular input and still pull it off consistently. If you're trying to get ftilt into BW id just suggest using tilt stick and practicing doing the double qcf input on the left stick while doing the ftilt on the right stick. I hope that can help a bit.
Hey Kai just wanted to let you know thank you for the video, and did you know you could do a forward/down smash after the nair during his “touch of death” combo? Figured I’d let you know cause I’m practicing on DK which seems pretty interesting. Keep up the videos. Very informative, and insightful.
When I do attempt to do FF uair to SH dair to forward DI nair I end up accidentally misinputting Burn Knuckle out of dair most of the time for some reason
I’d say what you’re doing is negative edge, it’s a weird fighting game thing where letting go the A/B button ALSO counts as those button’s respective inputs, for example, you’re doing SH dair, holding the stick down, holding the A button down, you move the stick forward to DI then you might let go of A some time after this, negative edge reads this as a quarter circle forward cancelled out of a dair. So basically just tap the button for the SH Dair and beware negative edge.
I find the hardest part of the TOD is landing that Uair as when landing it the followup Dair often whiffs. I think it needs to land at the right angle and height or something. Anyone else have that issue?
A bit late but you can do falling rar up-air Which basically means you quickly change the direction you are facing and then hop and do an aerial You could crossup normally with up-air so you can really make your opponent overwhelmed
Most likely not for MK11, people like trueunderdawg already knocking that out of the park. Maybe BBTag since Theres very few doing things for that game

I think it just has really strict timing. If you're too late on it, the character ducks under it after being hit by the up air.
You could also use the C stick while you're doing the full hop and holding down
This allows you to fast fall while doing the up air motion
