    As someone who mains Terry, one thing I never hear people talk about is how insane his dair is. Does tons of damage, and the spike hit box not only kills stupidly early, but sends at an angle where you can just die from a spike onstage. His spike can kill you at the top platform on battlefield, that’s how insane it is.

    As a Mexican KoF player for over a 15 years, it fills me with so much joy to see all the love our boy Terry has gotten.
    It's crazy to see how well Terry's moves translate to Smash, although it makes a lot more sense when you remember Sakurai was a KoF player and many of Smash's mechanics were inspired by it.
    If we ever get a Smash 6, I really hope Terry becomes part of the base roster. (And with how collab friendly SNK is, there's a good chance of it happening.)

    Also, don't forget that Terry's command imputs are oddly intuitive. Command Up-B is basically a charge move, you need to crouch for half a second to get its full height and power, but that can be acheived while doing Crack Shoot or Jab 1 and 2. It is a barrier, but not unlike other tight combo fighters like Fox or pre-nerf ZSS, just with Imputs instead of timing.

    Something I learned only recently is that terry has a command input version of his up special. It’s a vertical charge move, meaning you hold down for the right amount of frames and then push the joystick up and press A at the same time. It isn’t in any of terry’s movelist guides online so I find it weird how no one noticed.

    I've never been much of a traditional fighting game fan, but I was a fan of Metal slug, which was made by SNK, who made Fatal fury and king of fighters. As I've known, SNK have always been a rather obscure company in the West, making it pretty rare for them to gain a huge following outside of Central and South America and Asia. Being from the UK, we're not really known as big SNK enjoyers. But seeing SNK's work, their character in Terry be introduced and to CRITICAL acclaim, it's made me very happy. The way people liked his character, his playstyle, his overall DLC package with 50 songs (with lots of remixes and dope tunes) and a cool map with lots of well made cameo characters, I'm so happy at the reception and with the idea that SNK could be in mind for if we ever get a Smash 6 as a go-to for characters and inspiration.
    I guess a lot of it could be due to Sakurai's fanboyism, SNK being one of his major inspirations to make a fighting game, he put a lot of special care into the DLC pack and SNK let em go nuts with the soundtracks. Plus as the probably most balanced FGC whose also quite fun to play and engaging to play against, while being balanced (Most tier lists I seen put him in the 25-30 range, solid A-tier) relatively for a DLC fighter, it's great to see some people who didn't know of his game's existence before smash, now they like him too. This obscured (in the west) character that very few people were asking for, managed to get in and somehow out do even the characters smash wanted most in terms of reception, such as Banjo and Sora, fan favourites who despite their hype, weren't as well received or used as much.
    I know this is a book of a comment, but I'll leave it on this: I hope SNK become the Square Enix of smash. From Smash 1, Melee, Brawl and 4's release, to my knowledge, there were 0 SE reps. By the time 4 closed, there was 1. Ultimate ended with 4 reps from 3 different franchises. I hope SNK can have 1 character release halfway through ultimate and go on to have plenty of reps for the next game, they deserve it frankly. They have everything I can think of to make it in: Good music, good locations for maps, tons of characters, FGC and not, even bosses if they bring back a main campaign again. If I had a lone choice, I'd so choose to have them bring in the Ikari team, a swap in/out team of Leona, Ralf and Clark, FGCs with a pokemon trainer team system. This would have a HUGE range of representation (Clark and Ralf were iirc in an old SNK game called Ikari Warriors, Leona shown up originally in KOF and alongside Ralf and Clark and all 3 are playable in Metal Slug XX) and unique potential. Of course it's a long shot, but regardless of what does happen, I hope SNK can collab with smash again.

    powerdunk isn’t that great against horizontal projectiles because the i frames when rising is tight and often times the spacing won’t line up of the timing to do it for the i frames and to actually hit the opponent on the landing.
    doing it from the air isn’t that good because of its high startup so it’s easy to react. also because of terry’s floatiness, his aerial approaches have very similar timings, which means the opponents mental stack isn’t that overwhelmed when antiairing him. so the mixup of and having to react to powerdunk is that difficult as it might be in a vacuum.
    his spotdodge and spotdodge attack isn’t that “impossible” to punish. it’s about as hard as a regular spotdodge punish. with range it covers either options you can also shield in a window when the cancel or attack comes but before a regular spot dodge would end. removing the mixup and the best they get is a shield pressure normal from a spot dodge cancel normal.
    he also doesn’t get full body intangibility on the attack but only upper body.
    one thing i’ll add is while yes terry is generally favoured pressuring on shield but there is also a lot of nuance of when he does the cancel, the terry player has to adjust depending on when he thinks the opponent will do the oos to beat it with the cancel, and if changes across matchups. then if the opponent shields it all they can get a decently hard punish on him.
    still a pretty good video though, atleast you didn’t mention his slow platform drop which isn’t actually a big of a deal as many top players make it out to be. 🤔

    But now, getting down to characters like Terry, it feels like its just clickbait or at least very overstated. "Why people play Terry?" is a more reasonable question to poise and answer than "Why EVERYONE plays Terry?".

      @sharmakefarah2064 10 месяцев назад +1

      Eh, Mockrock can get the EWGF input at least some of the time, and he's not a Kazuya main or even secondary/pocket character, and given it's ludicrous attributes, landing EWGF is often enough for a new player that's skilled with the EWGF input to get 30-50%+ damage, or rarely take a stock, which is very broken.
      Yes, Kazuya rewards skilled/tryhard players heavily, which is another issue, but one big one is that to a large extent, learning the EWGF input is basically enough to make you viable in Tournaments, because the execution barrier isn't as much of an issue as the Smash developers thought it would, and it's execution is actually easier in Smash Ultimate than in Tekken (don't quote me on that). There are many other issues with Kazuya's kit, but EWGF symbolizes so much of what makes Kazuya broken and bad.

    Maybe this is just me, but I don't consider Power Dunk a burst option. Sure, it makes you move a lot but the wind up only works if you are right on top of someone, you don't actually move high enough to jump over most projectiles and those you do require tight timing, and you don't move enough horizontally fast enough to catch someone who is playing defensively. I love Power Dunk and it has great uses as a combo finisher or a recovery mix-up. If I need a burst option, I go for Dash Attack or Crack Shoot unless I am YOLOing a Buster Wolf which I die from lot.

  • @CrimsoniteSP
    @CrimsoniteSP 10 месяцев назад +2

    The only thing I still despise of the FGC characters is their auto turn around. Auto turn around in Smash is awkward to play as and frustrating to play against.
    A big part of Smash are these left-right mix ups on shield and being able to mix up defensive options, like rolling in or out, but playing against a character with auto turn around negates these options. At least none of them really have great tools to get around zoning but projectile spam is a boring playstyle.
    I do know the auto turn around does have it's weaknesses though. They don't turn in shield, in air nor does it happen frame 1. That and FGC characters tend to not have easy access to their back air. These aren't really that much of a weakness but it's there.

    You forgot to mention that SNK games, especially where Terry Came from, was the original inspiration that gave birth to smash bros as a franchise.
    He was a hardcore SNK Arcade vamer back in the day. But the reason he made smash bros was because he beat the shit out of a casual gamer.
    Here is the spicy part. He was playing against a boyfriend and girlfriend duo. He "owned" the girlfriend playing King of Fighters SO MERCILESSLY that he also embarrassed the boyfriend as well.
    Hence why Smash Bros was built as a casual and easy to approach party game with elements of SNK fighting games.
    That would technically King of Fighters and Super Smash Bros have an indirect Uncle and Nephew relationship as video games. At least in my view.

    I hate all of the FGC characters in smash but Terry is the least frustrating, he feels the most "fair" out of them. Losing to him mostly means being outplayed. It wasn't just just jank. And the matchup is actually fun, he's not a slow touch of death character that feels invincible and broken on the ground but has to be avoided and cheesed off stage for an easy stock.

      We don't have enough results to completely determine how powerful characters are, and we thus need to look at characteristics that predict that a character will be played a lot, or be broken, and Terry hits a lot of the checkboxes for being played a lot, especially in Latin America, and being broken.

    90% of the video is just riddles 😂 Terry will forever be stuck in mid or mid high tier because he is 💩 compared to the high tiers, has really bad recovery, and it’s much slower to do input commands vs characters like pyra/mythra, sonic, ect. Because everything can be spammed and no inputs required. Same with Kazuya. Broken yet only one person can barely make it in tournament with him 😂 They are extremely high skill barrier.

    I was going to be a Terry main since Fatal Fury was my first fighter before Street Fighter and Terry had that wolf in him. His reveal to the point how his character looks is pinnacle design, and even looks better than his KOF variations in the last couple of years. Terry is sub character for me because I get tired of doing Power Geyser when I'm really just doing the input for Power Dunk. Costed me hundreds of matches and I'm just sick of it. The simple inputs for supers is ridiculous and I would hope one day we can turn them off, but it's no big deal. Been representing Byleth the whole time and having fun with them. Multi-weapon users are definitely my favorite types of characters due to my childhood with Devil May Cry, Rave Master, Blazblue, and a few others.
