  • What is it like towing with the 6 Speed Auto Conversion by #wholesaleautomatics?
The AB60 is a Toyota product, of course. The transmission computer sits alone from the ECU and relies on some sensory input and some manual input data.
In this video I tow our #australianoffroad Matrix, of some 2400 odd kilos a very short distance over some varied terrain (all black top). A bit of the video is dedicated to transmission shifts. I really have to describe this for you in the video.
Apart from the shifts I talk about transmission temps, engine temps, EGT and boost. These provide a "picture" of how the vehicle is performing. My thoughts:
    1. I need to improve the oil cooling system
    2. I need to improve the airflow coming into the front
I only used full auto; I did not use sports mode. Why? I wanted to put the driveline in its worst configuration, if that makes sense.
I then go onto talk about fuel figures, self explanatory. I'd like to see the figures over several thousand kilometres so I can get a better understanding on what they are. Anyhow, this gives an insite.
I finish up with some candid thoughts on my experience with Wholesale Automatics. Hopefully I was an exception to how they service their customers.

    899. This video, and the prior 2 on the auto conversion, have taken my subscriber count perilously close to 900.
Over 90% of viewers are not subscribed to my channel. Whilst I appreciate you may get some benefit from my experiences, and the views show that, why not think about a 👍 and or a subscribe?
I don’t and have not explicitly in my videos sought accolades, subscriptions and or that form of recognition.
    This is the first time.

    Who did the installation?
Is the fuel consumption more than manual? Normal driving and towing?

      Diff Trans QLD in Bundaberg.
I give fuel figures at the end of this video 👍

Thanks, What OBD app are you using please? Assuming it works through Android auto or car play and that was how your getting it on the screen.

It is an OB2 Bluetooth dongle (scanner) I bought from PVS when I bought their head unit.
The app I use to interface with the scanner is available for both android and Apple. It is called Torque (it was the recommended app by PVS).
The app cost about $4. The dongle plugs into the ecu port under the steering wheel.

solid effort on the videos, i understand you have only had the conversion for a short time but do you believe it is worth the conversion?

      Hey buddy,
Travelled just over 3000kms with the AB60. It has plenty of positives, for sure.
I reserved about towing at the moment. My gut feeling is the oil cooling I have won’t be good enough. But my 79 has a front mount intercooler so it will be different for those who have a top mount intercooler.
Fuel consumption is more than a manual. The AB60 is limited by how much nM you can throw at it. But I know Wholesale sell a more beefier AB60 than their “standard” that I have.
I’m gradually getting use to the “feel” of the drive. Do I miss the manual, probably not.
It is a significant investment. But for me, it was the cheaper option than buying a 200 and building it or buying a 300 and building it. This will just make driving the 79 a bit easier (and on highway it’s quieter).

@@kennymepicadventures876 thanks for the feedback appreciate it I’m also worried about cooling as from what I’ve been told by the installer they now only supply the PWR radiator with heat exchanger as the main cooling no separate cooler as they have decided this is the best option moving forward . I believe it’s the same radiator as you run on your cruiser already.
Hopefully PDI come up with something I’ve also considered going the bigger cast pan straight away as I’ll be towing a van mainly.

@@krisormerod779 if you don’t have a front mount intercooler I can’t see why you could not fit a heavy duty oil cooler up front similar to the 200 series.
PDI have a nice looking oil cooler they are developing. PWR also do oil coolers and they can do custom coolers too.
Just stay away from the fin and tube coolers.
Note, it’s cheaper getting the radiator directly from PWR than through Wholesale. If that is the way you head.
