  • The incredible story of how we found a completely uncirculated 1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard, dubbed "Dirty Burst"...
    *Mike mentions a couple of times in the video that the guitar was played until the 70's before it was retired. It was in fact retired from gigging in the 90's.*

    You are a good man. Alot of dealers would have seen this as an opportunity to get over on the owner in a really bad way. It’s good to see there’s still good people out there and that not all dealers are trying to get over on you. I have bought alot of les pauls over the years but I don’t come across the fabled closet burst where the owner has no idea what they have. Not to mention being double zeroed and uncirculated. It makes an amazing story that in the long run will probably add more value to the guitar. I would love to play it once it’s done! The wood grain is crazy looking on this one. I love the look of it. Not a fan of the bigby though but it is what it is.

    My guess is the switch was for splitting and/or phase reversal of the neck pickup, given the little notch in the neck pickup ring where the wiring could've passed into the pickup cavity. Thank heavens they didn't get out the old Black & Decker and drill a hole in the top! I too owned a double 0 back in the 90's, 0 0304. Long gone now.

    its amazing how it all comes down to money for the majority of people. nostalgia and collectors value doesn't really matter they just want to know how much money they can get for it and how quickly they can be paid out. i would have this guitar restored and i would hold on to it to accumulate value and probably one day auction it off. its a piece of history not a paycheck.

    zebra pick-ups starts being installed on the 1960's Les Pauls.. the owner had a very bad idea to change a tune o matic bridge (made by himself I suppose) with a Bigsby tremolo. The original color is probably a cherry sunburst, as shown under were the pickguard was removed.

    Amazing story. Looking at all the photos on your website I got a bit sick to my stomach seeing all the abuse this once-beautiful instrument suffered through in its first 20 years. I mean, the filth alone is disgusting. But, of course, an expert guitar restorer probably looks at this and says “no problem!” The top is absolutely gorgeous, and, to my relatively untrained eye, very unique. Also, the back and neck look to be in pretty decent shape, all things considered. I mean it could be a lot worse, right? Really looking forward to seeing this after the expert restoration is completed. From now on this guitar is going to be getting the total red carpet treatment. It’s going to be a stunner when it’s all said and done.

I'm sure it has its own MOJO. And I'm waiting to see what the shops next move is with it. Please don't sell it to B or 5 you know who those 2 guys are or to some doctor or dentist who just hangs it in a vanity case this baby wants and needs to be played..

    This is a tough one Sir! I love the bigsby on it but it's broken.The top is beautiful! It's not too far off, if it was mine, I would leave the bigsby fix the wiring, correct the PAFs if you can, refret and let us hear her! As much as I hate to say it's like not putting the pickguard back on. Seems right to leave the bigsby on.

      @trapland7102 2 года назад +1

      Agreed. Oil the board, do the BARE MINIMUM to make it work, do NOT “clean it”. Done. Polishing that guitar is probably not going to improve its value and will certainly erase the visible part of its history. Whatever happens, I hope there is plenty of photo and video done before someone “devintages” it.

    • @hkguitar1984
      @hkguitar1984 2 года назад

      @@trapland7102 I 100% agree. If the goal is to sell this guitar it would not likely benefit from a normal cleaning that would be performed for any guitar sale.
      IMHO, one of the main attributes this guitar offers is the 1970s era grime and use.
      Leave it as is and let the new owner decide what to do.
      Heck, even the bronze acoustic string it wears is a very interesting part of the story.
      In this case I believe less is more.
