When I started out on this ride I thought I was going to do an reasonably easy climb up a mountain pass in South Africa. I was wrong!

I never realized that South Africa was such a beautiful country. You are showing it in all its glory. Great work. Well done!
Obviously it’s a big place but the area around the Franschhoek area is pretty amazing
+1 on this… 🍻
Great country - we are so bless to have all of the best including cost if living - like any other country we have our problems, bug that is minor compare to to upside
Well done once again! To tackle such climbs and routes being a stocky guy is an example to all of us ! Roger in Spain 76
It was pretty tough.
@@jollygoodvelo The more you do it the easier it gets. I love climbing and I'm lucky to live in an area where there are barely any flats roads.
@@charlesmansplaining Not sure it gets easier. I’ve climbing hills for decades and they are always hard.
Love your determination.. You surely showed that mountain whos the boss. What an inspiration Thank You!!
Those views are beautiful. You got to admit that cycling back at your home with roads lined with hedges that block the view can make you struggle to get on your bike at times but views like this would make me want to get on my bike every day.
For me it’s as much the weather as the views that influence me wanting to get out. Generally, South Africa has much better weather than the UK.
I see why this made your bucket list of bike rides to do. Thanks.
Any time!
Don’t blame you for taking the transport back to base. That was a terrific effort and I for one certainly enjoyed the spectacular views along the way.
Everyone took the transport!
Amazing views, but what a gargantuan effort Leonard. Loved the video, very motivational as always.
Glad you liked it.
Another milestone achieved! Well done, Leonard, well done, indeed!
I hate, detest, abhor climbing. Thanks for taking this on this one!
I’m not climbings biggest fan but I do enjoy the challenge.!
Well done on those hills Leonard! That's a very beautiful place. I love your videoing and editing. I guess you are back in the UK now? If you want some more hard hill challenges with stunning scenery, then check out the North Pennines, the weather often sucks though! Northumberland and Scottish Borders are super stunning too. There's loads of great groups rides you can do via Audax UK.
You didn’t think you were going to make it?? You were always going to make it, chapeau Leonard.
I appreciate you confidence in me.
I am always impressed how easily you cycle with one hand on the drop bar while holding a camera with the other.
I’ve had practice
Hi Leonard fantastic achievement, super views almost like the Lake District where I ride. I make it easier with an Orbea M30 ebike 😮 well I am almost 75, well that's my excuse. Enjoy the rest of your holiday 😊
Still good fun on an e-bike!
Outstanding job of mind over matter. Congratulations!
It took a lot of mind, believe me!!
Magnificent views. Nice work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was great Leonard! The toughest climbs are often in the most beautiful places - who dares wins...😁
So true!
Great scenery! And great job getting up to the top!
Btw, your 24 in 2024 challenge started the year off right for me. I’m down 20 pds since start of New Year.
I take my helmet of and salute you! Well done!
Fabulous we’ll done. You are very inspirational. Keep inspiring. Thank you
Thanks for watching.
Great effort Leonard. Climbing steep roads is always challenging for bigger guys. Well done for sticking with it to earn the fun downhill afterwards. 💪🏻😃
Thanks 👍
Well done Leonard, that was a tough climb #kudos 🚴😎
Thanks
Well done mate! It looked really hot? The heat saps so much energy which makes conquering those climbs even more of an achievement...
ooww that looks mighty tuff! well done!
It was!
Hi Leonard, congratulations regarding another high quality Vlog! Kudos to you for conquering the climb. South Africa clearly has a lot to offer for cyclists.
It’s a great place to ride.
Hello Leonard,
Thanks for an enjoyable video. It's great to see unfamiliar roads... Well done with climbs.
Take care.
Paul,,
Well done Leonard. I loved seeing that pass with such amazing views. The descent looked pretty inviting as well.
Such nice weather there besides the scenery compared to here the last few days. Crazy assed winds with gusts yesterday were making even riding on a 55 pound e-bike sketchy and a little dangerous. I actually aborted half of my ride over feeling imperiled by it. I didn't even see a single motorcycle out there, so there was something to it. High winds being one of the top reasons for having that bike. This morning it dropped to 30 degrees again and we had a snow dusting. Like winter is saying, "Not so fast fella." I'm waiting for some drying out and 50F degrees for my ride time today. Yet a few days ago, I wore bike shorts for the first time this year.
At eleven it was still under 50F. Still wearing nearly full winter clothes today, except the baseball gloves compared to the full winter gloves on the bike ride.
Seems like u enjoyed Cape Town and surrounds, please come again,. I’ve done CTCT 4 times and Helshoogte Pass quite a few times, and Franschoek Pass once, I’m from Cape Town (never ride alone here)
I thought the Franchhoek pass was definitely the more scenic of the two.
Great video Leonard. I watch them all and this is one of the best. I was off for a ride today when I noticed you had posted. I waited to watch it til after my ride as a reward and u didn't disappoint. I'm in Canada and ride almost daily. Fatbike in winter and road and mountain in spring, summer and autumn. I have riden in the rocky mountains of canada and now i'm interested to continue the adventure as u have.
Enjoy!
Leonard it looks like you are being well fed. Beautiful scenery and Great riding, keep enjoying yourself. Peter
Thank you, I will
Great stuff again Leonardo but I felt your pain at @6:31 when Braam informed you there were still 2km to go, not 1km! Nice music for the descent, btw, great African vibes I thought. Beautiful and tough ride - well done 🎉 ‘well, well worth it’.
Well done Leo, the mind believes you can do it and you did, congrats!
Absolutely!
Wow. Nice ride bud. Stunning scenery
It really is!
Really impressive numbers there, oomph, well done Sir.
Yes, thanks
We see other countries and places through others eyes.... keep it up ❤ and well done keep on cycling. One of those sports that doesn't require a team all the time.
Glad I could show you around
Bravo sir!
Thank you.
Awesome ride spectacular scenery 😎
Glad you enjoyed it
Respect to you Leonard well done.
Thanks
In Jamaica 🇯🇲, you can see the climb. You don’t guess if you are climbing.
I was going up Red Hills (St Andrew) one day, and trust me, my muscles hated me and my lungs were protesting. Very pointy 5 miles to the plateau in the town just past the police station. We have some nice climbs on the island.
Sounds like another great place to ride. Pretty much guaranteed nice weather too, hopefully
Amazing 👏
Glad you think so!
Super ride, great effort, well done!
Thanks
Well done Leonard. I take it that’s your own bike? Sometime I’d appreciate it if you would share your experience on how you pack & transport your bike on airplanes. EG is it a bike box, bag & any tips 😊🚲
I’m working on just a video as we speak.
Aw that’s great Leonard. I often think I wish I had my own bike. I’ve a couple of trips this year & have watched countless videos but would very much appreciate your insights & experience to. 😊🎶🕷🚲
Great comment and delighted to hear Leonardo is working on a video on this. Can’t wait. Want to do CTCT next year but totally intimidated by the whole travel and transport thing (not to mention the 109km of the event and some of these ‘warm up’ rides 😅😂
@@davehollingworth5537 If you want to do the ride next year coke and join me next year. There is a trip we are organising so all of the logistics of hotels, transport and ride entry are taken care of. Click on the link in the description for full details.
@@jollygoodvelo yes! thanks, I’m on their list of ‘expression of interest’
So very well done . 😊
Thank you! 😊
The title alone would probably scare me off. You have a habit of pushing yourself to do hard things. Good for you. Love your videos
I appreciate that!
Very well done lenard super ride
Cheers
Great vid Leonard , you will come home really fit . Sensational country spoilt by crime.
It really improves my climbing.
It had to be loads easier on those climbs for the chaps without the cannon balls to pack around! I'm sure they appreciate the work you put into it too.
Ain’t no mountain high enough!
I think there might be at some point.
You're amazing, Leonard. If you ever get the opportunity to ride near the Rockies don't pass it up.
Maybe one day!
Beautiful countryside. You lucky devil!
I am very lucky.
Beautiful view, shame about all the car traffic.
It was a lot quieter on the Franschhoek Pass.
ride on!
Thanks
I like your videos.👍
Glad to hear that
Superb Leonard. What gearing are you running?
It’s a 50/34 and an 11/32
@jollygoodvelo Cheers Leonard. Epic climbing.
Well done on another steep climb in the bank of fitness
That are slowly racking up
Its alright for some isn't it ?
Isn’t it.
Props to all you RUclipsr cyclists how are able to hold a camera and talk while suffering on a climb.
Amazing!! Well done. This is epic 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
It was quite a ride.
@@jollygoodvelo Any boy can ride a bike. It’s takes a man to ride it uphill.
