One of the ferries in this fleet, the Cape Henlopen, is a converted WW II U.S. Navy 'Landing Ship, Tank' (LST 510) that landed troops on Omaha Beach on 6 Jun 44.
On 21 Dec 44, it landed my father's unit, the 151st Signal Company, 11th Armored Division, at Cherbourg, France. Still serving.
Hope to be a captain one day too his exact reason is why I want to do it love being out there driving is fun and so peaceful everyday is different and such beautiful views.
It’s quite a difference from what that ferry was like in the 40s and 50s, when I think the equipment was LSMs. I’ve crossed in rough weather, and it was always an interesting experience.
His story about the small boats fishing reminded me of Life on the Mississippi (Mark Twain) and the arguments had on the river.
I love and resonate with this man!
I was on the New London Orient Point Ferry ⛴ last Wednesday and Orient Point New London on Friday. Both awesome rides. 7 years ago I was on my way to Orient Point and as the Ferry ⛴ was leaving New London a submarine cruised by.
