      I am so happy to hear that you are sober today! My friend I’ve been sober since January 1, 2006 and it has only gotten better
      There was a time I thought I would be dead before I saw anything other than rehab detox or prison
      A few years after I got clean and sober, I was on my first cruise through the Bahamas
      A year later, I was visiting DR, PR,St Maarten & Thomas ,
      Month-long vacation on the beautiful island of Madeira, which is a part of Portugal Portugal
      Not just traveling, but just my life. Getting my diploma, drivers license, notary public, voting for the first time after getting my felony expunged, people trust me, my daughter trusts me.
      More than any of the material stuff or traveling stuff, people, trusting me with their homes, their children, pets, their money , etc
      That just fills me with joy and love that’s almost hard to describe
      All of my friends from back in the day, I think there’s only two or three of us still alive
      Out of over 20 in our group

      Bro I was 16 in rehab when the counselors gave me his book. Few months alter my brother passed away from a fentanyl overdose. I got out and stayed sober for years and than got back into opiates and got fully addicted to oxys and other prescription opiates. Been doing better but it’s hard for real. I justified it because of my career and it’s safer because it’s prescription oxy but it’s horrible shit and such a brutal addiction with horrible withdrawls. Hope you’re doing well bro

    Absolutely love Chris Herren. I watched his 30 for 30 in detox 2.5 years ago. It's such a huge motivation for me, and for w.e reason it stuck with me after 13 yrs of addiction. Im now sober continuing to work on my recovery. One day at a time. I always watch out for anything he does and his speaking events. If you're struggling with addiction, you can make it if you really want it. The mind is a beautiful, powerful thing. I pray for anyone trying to get clean and DONT GIVE UP hope! God bless yall 🙏

    My brother & teammate from high school!
    I just want to say to the youth that "Chris Herren" was more than just addicted drugs, he really was a great basketball player!
    The drugs throw a shadow on how great he was & he's very humble these days because he knew damn well that he was destined for the NBA!
    I was there literally, the man received letters from damn near every D1 college in the country & he was on the McDonald's all-star team, those that now what that mean know he was an elite high school player! Chris mother, father & brother showed me love when many people in the city of Fall River didn't. The city is dominantly "Portuguese" & the race element was very much so alive but Chris family especially his mother (RIP) made me feel the most welcomed.
    To the people that disrespect Chris from strangers all the way to childhood friends y'all need to grow the fuck up... Nobody is perfect, but my brother overcame his life demons & he's currently winning in life as a family man, basketball isn't important in the grand scheme of things because family is!

    I started watching Chris when he played for Fresno State. I played college ball around the same time. Even though, he was just a couple of years older I wanted to play like him. Then, I never knew he had addiction problems the way he played. I enjoyed watching his game. After all these years, I can relate to him as a father coaching his son. He backed off from coaching because it was bringing bad out of him. Being competetive and having played college ball, you totally have to change your mindset when trying to mentor your kid through sports. This interview is eye-opening. Thank you, Chris!!!!!!

Once I realized that , I said fuck it , just let it go , 2 overdoses . @@AR-zn1uy thank you brother! I want it so bad every day I wake up ! I'm so over this whole game that it comes with I'm tired of the being on the hunt and on edge all the time and the sneaking around and lying ! Sometimes I just want to end it to so my family doesn't have to stress and worry about me anymore.... But the withdrawal is leaving me with the shakes and withdrawals like crazy and now I have anxiety I screwed up my last treatment center because I couldn't do the full room of people I'd sit down and get bad anxiety for some reason everytime and I tried so hard to!!! It pisses me off until this day and on top of it my anger I get from my dad ..I almost don't know where to begin... sorry I'm spilling my guts out lol I'm just ready to change ..and not many people to talk to ...I just want all the advice I can get lol

      @🐉Chris🐉 I totally understand man. My last time in treatment they sat me down infront of all the staff and took turns telling me how they didn't want me back and I was just going to die anyways. It was the fire I needed and a year and some later my life is amazing. They're all still working in a rehab center and I've built a life better than any of them could've imagined in a little over a year. Things change quick. My family came back too, they all trust me, I have a gf for the first time in 10 years. I'm the top performer at work. To think that I wanted to end it and almost did because I couldn't see a way out at that time. Things will change my friend but you need to feel the need to change and help others in your heart. You have to take the pain you feel and turn it into a gift and help others. Feel your emotions they will help guide you.

    Being from a blue collar Massachusetts town, similar to Chris’s, I can I say the things he and his people went through a lot of people from my town are struggling with. A LOT.
    I watched Steve Os documentary and Chris Herrens unguarded. I did go through experimentation in high school and college, but I would look back at these docs and think, “that’s not going to be me”. I had my fun but I knew when it was time to smarten up.

    Sports are so important in our society, too important for some of us. I respect the hell out of this guy for a few reasons, but one is his refusal to coach his kids because he understands it would end up being a toxic situation. A lot of parents don't want to accept that even if they weren't a great player with generations of their family being athletes. Even if you know you're over the top at times, it's hard not to go crazy sometimes

    The hardest part, imo , about teaching kids about drugs is simply our inability to really describe the pain. Clearly none of my teachers were drug addicts. To be fair even people like me struggle to describe it
    As a recovering oc addict I have a hard time telling people what it's like. I guess imagine being the most scared you've ever been but in most cases not being able to tell someone. So you're completely alone as your body feels like it's dying. You can't eat. A short walk to the fridge is too much for you and yet your legs seem to take on a life of their own and you can't rest regardless of what you try. You don't sleep and the hours seem like weeks while you experience this and probably a lot more I've blocked out.
    But then there's the part about honesty. Why would anyone put themselves through this?
    Truth is that what i just described... imagine the EXACT opposite of that. To the opiate addict there's literally nothing better. This only ends after a tremendous amount of suffering that you could end in about 15 minutes after taking a pill or in seconds by shooting up

      Yeah this interviewer struggled. This didn’t really add anything to the 30 for 30. Chris’ story is so wild that if you didn’t see the 30 for 30 you’d still enjoy this interview. But for those of us who had seen it, this interview didn’t add anything.

    Just some helpful advice to Vlad. When a guest says something profound in a poetic way, don't try and match it in the same style. Especially when his profundity is hard won, while yours is based on what you've been told. He's the guest. He's the performer. Let him shine. When you try and match or be on the same level, it can come off as trying hard to hang. Or prove you get it. Or at worst, one-upmanship on the deep talk. When a guest says something heavy, like, "It's a dark road, man." Don't go, "Darker than dark." Instead offer a humble and low-key awed, "ok..." Or, "OK, I see...mannnn." Or, "That's tough." Or, "Hmmm". Or, "Glad I never had to learn that the hard way."

      Great point. Most interviewers nowadays don't know how to ask a question, then move out of the way. They tend to talk over the guests and try to sprinkle in their own experiences.

    • @Frip36
      @Frip36 Год назад

      @@handsomeX Agree. However it is a difficult juggling act. Interviewer has to be thinking about a couple things at once. While at the same time listening, and making it all seem natural.

    • @handsomeX
      @handsomeX Год назад

      @Frip36 What happens is, they get too wrapped up in wanting to ask every question they have prepared before their time is up. Most of the time they're not gonna get to all of them, and that's OK. Also, you don't need to interject as much with people like Chris Herren, because his story is interesting as it is, as well as he's a good storyteller.
