Ned rig is the way to go. Hook and bait size is very important depending on what you are fishing for but with fishing you never know what might happen. You could hook a snapping turtle with a trout magnet. Seriously, I have caught a 15 lb snapper fishing in a creek for panfish. I let him go.

Owe you a huge thanks. Grew up fishing saltwater and now I don't live near saltwater so it was freshwater or nothing. I was at such a loss, struggling to get a beat on the fish and not catching anything. That all changed after stumbling across your channel about a month ago and earlier this week I landed a 3lb bass. One of my favorite fishing methods...a tiny jig and plastic on an ultralight rod in a small river or creek. Go out wading to cool off during the hot summer. 😎
That wallmart ozark trails "trout fishing kit" comes with about 8-10 Hellgrammites, i had 1 last about 10 catches of both small bass and bluegills. I dont think the "pan fishing kit" has Hellgrammites in it though. Yum also just released a Hellgrammite but i aint seen it in any stores yet.
Wal mart sells a creek or pond kit with multiple color hellgramites in it. It was about $5.

Long-ear sunfish, pumpkinseed, shellcracker, and even crappie are all pretty in aquariums. Black crappie tend to get their dark phase colors in tanks and really look nice.
"My, my. What beautiful fish you have in that tank. I know a lot of tropical fish but I don't think I ever saw one so pretty! What species is that?"

Just bought some Nikko baits today. As far as rods go. I took Mr gene’s advice and bought a canyon creek super ultralight and I haven’t looked back. As a matter of fact I’ve got a friend hooked on it and he bought one just a while back.
That first fish was epic! So much fun on light tackle! Love that bait!

I’ve been waiting for you to try the Caddisflies from Nikko. They are a blast to fish with. I’ve caught a Flathead and several blue cats on these trying to catch panfish. Lots of fun. Crappie love em too. I use a 1/32 trout magnet plain jig head

My brother and i used to go and catch hellgramites they’re some vicious lil boogers. But boy we would really put a hurtin on smallmouth and catfish. Absolutely love watching your videos,always entertaining and informative. Wish I could come down there for a day on the water with ya.

You never know what a big ole sowbelly will eat. I was probably about 10 years old and was fishing a creek mouth that flowed into the Pee Dee River. I had a fly rod, bream hook and light line when a five pound largemouth sucked my cricket in. It was on and I didn’t think I could land it but I finally did. Funny, I’m 55 years old now and I still remember it clearly.

Richard I've cought a couple longear sunfish but one day I caught a huge one Abt 8 inchs maybe 9 almost a pound!!! Probably a Mississippi record bcuz I've never caught one like it since!!!
