The Tractor supply in my area has them for $55 each...pretty good deal for a very tough bed liner...I'm going to suggest these to my step-dad as he's been wanting a good liner. Thanks!
Yes, I think they’d make a good liner for him. The toughest part of the process is cutting through the thick rubber. But it’s not too bad…. About 5-7 passes and it’s a pretty clean cut!
I did that! I bought a pallet for my wife and swiped 2 for the truck bed. Next time I’ll make a paper pattern first and holding tabs for the gooseneck cover.
Thank you! And yes, I think merely for the aspect of them kinda being a good stabile and somewhat cushioned footing they are perfect for a camper base.
Yeah those are super durable. I actually used some strips of one to act as the spacer for the batter box build on my DIY travel trailer project. But for this I prefer the little bit softer feel of the rubber stall mat.
Haven’t watched your videos in years. I’ve been subscribed for a while , you got me into the idea of living off the grid . Thanks for the inspiration and I’m back.
Yes, I enjoyed it. First, smart upgrade. Second, quite dapper with the bowties. ;) Third, multi-use is always a plus in my book, AND it can double as a guest suite for camping alongside the travel trailer. Fourth, it reminds me of the channel you introduced me to: SUV RVing. Fifth, that second cinder block- perfect landing!
I used these horse mats to put a floor into my shop. Even my very heavy table saw and bandsaw roll on it no problems. Very durable, and actually quite safe and quiet.
Thank you! And the truck camper project above it will also be sporting some cool rubber flooring….but it will be rubber ‘diamond plate’ pattern. Stay tuned!😀👍
You and me both Alan! I’ve had this project in my mind since I was nearing the end of my DIY travel trailer build! Part one should be coming very soon!😉🙏
I had a feeling someone had worked this out. I got 10% off by ordering online at Tractor Supply which is an awesome resource. I used bungees to keep the mats in a roll to remove and replace in my truck. It has a 4" lift and 95 lbs is not that heavy but awkward enough to get your attention. New blades on box cutter, multiple passes, pattern the other based on the first measured cut as you showed, and it fits like a glove. Thanks for the inspiration. I agree that this is way better than most commercial solutions and it is 75% of a slider in use, with 8% of the cost.
Awesome Joe! I was just wondering what possible ways there are to line the bed of my eighties Squarebody truck. We have a half dozen stall mats not being used. Great use of bow ties! Looking forward to many more videos about this project. - Nick in Prescott
Another awesome build, thanks Joe. Do you have sufficient leftover mat material to cover tailgate and front wall? Looking forward to seeing your next installment as this insert comes to fruition. Any updates on Marley, her furry kids and competitions. Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peace brother
Thank you! As for the scraps I do have some I am going to think of some uses for. For the tailgate though it might be too floppy unless I secure it really well. But I definitely do want to do something on there to make a nicer surface once I’ve got the camper product in full swing.
@@homesteadonomics Rather than screws I used silicone as an adhesive when affixing a rubberized material to the tailgate of my Ranger. It survived for decades. The tailgate was probably the only unrusted, pristine metal after 26 years. Peace brother

I demo'd a concrete slab at the house years back. I jack hammered the concrete into football sized pieces and loaded them in the truck by hand to haul to the dump. To prevent denting the hell out of the bed, I dropped a 1/2" sheet of plywood in. That was back before lumber prices elevated to stupid high levels. I like your solution, should last MUCH longer.
I had to do the same thing about 20 years ago….jack hammering a slab up and hauling it away. But I wasn’t smart enough at the time to put anything down…. Just let it bang, ding and slide around🤦♂️🤪😂
Thanks! I won’t likely do a dedicated follow up….but as this will probably be a longer project then I’ll most likely touch on that in the later parts of the camper build😉
You're welcome! And I should have many more coming shortly with this camper project…, as I’ve got a bit of a strict timeline as we’ve got a big road trip coming soon😉
I am definitely excited for this project. Should be very similar to the travel trailer build series. And also result in a lot more consistent uploads too. Stay tuned and thanks for checking out this somewhat boring precursor project to the one I’m really interested in 😁🙏
Not boring at all in fact I love the bow tie method with this thick rubber mat or horse mat. In fact it’d be a great idea for the shop, a dog house or chicken coop, etc. I enjoy all the builds you come up with and appreciate the time and effort that goes into sharing your projects! Btw I watched the framing of this mini camper and it’s awesome! I’ve got to learn how to weld lol take care 🤘🏼
That is a great use of the horse mats. I have a tent that mounts in the bed of my truck and I use a set of the interlocking rubber tiles to cushion the truck bed. I bet the horse mats would work better and could stay in the truck. Going to follow the camper build with interest.
Thanks! I don’t think these would be as cushiony as those tiles….but yes, the advantage is that it can just stay in here. Stay tuned for the truck camper project….videos should be coming out real soon😉🙏

Saber saw and a coarse wood blade cuts this stuff really nice! I put a scrap of 2" foam underneath while cutting. Just make sure your blade doesn't reach THROUGH the foam. Also, one mat fit my 2015 Tacoma almost perfectly, no bowties necessary. Just needed 3" deep cutouts for the wheel wells, which I scribed in the same way you would scribe baseboard molding for a wavy floor. Finally, my Tacoma came with an integrated plastic bedliner, which I have always hated. It is way too slippery. The smooth side (top) of this mat appears to be almost as slippery, so I flipped mine over. The round dots are facing up and seem to be a little more grippy. Thanks for the idea!

Great idea dude. Thanks for the motivation. I made one as well however since I have a short bed f150 I mounted mine with the seam running long ways in the bed from cab to tailgate. That way I didnt need the bowties and they dont slide forward or backward because they are cut around the fender wells. Makes an awesome truck bed mat. I found 4 stall mats on fb marketplace for 100 bought those used 2 and sold the other 2 for 60 so I got about 40 dollars and 2 hours in a super durable bed mat.
I love stall mats. I have them in my garage shop, my basement gym, and always looking for another use. I don't actually have a truck currently but this is a great idea
I’m planning to use an insulation board with a stall mat over the top as a base for mine. I actually need mine spaced up slightly so the 50mm insulation will add as a riser plus some insulation for under the floor
