We take an in depth look at the seemingly forgotten 2005 Scion TC. Some claim this to be the best choice for those looking for a car that is fun, cheap, and reliable. You can easily pick one of these cars up on the used market for a bargain! This particular car was purchased for 1,200 dollars about 2 years ago. One of the best aspects of this car is the build quality. The car can really take a beating! I hope you enjoy seeing the car accelerate, turn sharply, brake hard, and bounce off of the rev limiter.

This is basically the perfect cheap car unless you have a family and need to put your kids in the back. Seriously. 4 Cyl engine, toyota parts, easy to work on. Its worth it.
Agreed!
and if you have a family same parts are used in xB. it's like a mini SUV.
Get a XB (I did:)
My friend has a 114k miles and offering 3ish little more or a little less. Is that a good buy?? It’s 2005 new tires, breaks, transmission. Everything is is pretty good. Dodge 2001 caravan 146 miles. Thoughts ?
laye but i hope u got that scion lmao, i have my own and its just a great car@@wanya0got0it0goin0on
I had a 2011 Automatic Scion tc, got it pre owned with 70K miles on it. I used it as daily car for 5 yrs till i got rear ended on freeway it was total and i had injury need therapy for 4 months. It had 170K miles on it and never failed me as my daily car.. Now i got me a pre-owned 2015 Manual Trans Tc with 62K miles on it.. Love these Toyota.. Very reliable cars and cheap to maintain!
Do you have any problems with it during your time?
I still have one it has 279,000 miles on it

honda civic
It is the best. I got 120 th miles on mine
Pshhh. I've heard of this "reliable" stuff. Sounds nice, but I don't think it's for me.
I have 177k miles on it still waiting on a real issue I’ve had small stuff like vvti leak and I beat on my car every day. I just ordered a turbo kit I’m waiting on it should be here mid October
@@Jpgaps That’s gonna be quick
It’s basically a celica successor. They came when the celiacs went. I own a celica. Love the thing. Mine has the same engine and the same damn cat codes on. I would buy a tC in a heartbeat
If you like burning oil be my guest
@@y.n.lreckless755I have a 2006 it has never used oil.
I just got a 2015 Scion TC today only has 25k miles. It is super fun to drive, cheap on gas, & looks really nice also.
Shoutout to the cameraman making this a cinematic, I just wanted to know what people thought ab my car
Thank you, I appreciate you for noticing.
The main issue with these cars is that the engines on the 1st generation often burn oil. You can go on indefinitely driving and the engine will be fine so long as you don't mind filling up the engine with oil with some frequency. Mine is heading towards the beater zone but if you keep up with it, it still holds it's own in terms of modern cars looks and I still get compliments for it even though I personally know it's really just a decent car.
Look on Amazon, $50 dollar valve cover and $10 for the seals, up to you if you want to do the whole sparks and coils but after that you should be GTG, that's what I did and no more oil burn.
L R ill give it a look-see, i was under the impression it was a bit more in depth. thank you!
Love my tc! Sure it’s a little underpowered but it’s fun and sounds good with an upgraded exhaust
I’d say it’s “peppy”. Glad you’re enjoying yours.
what do you expect for a 19k msrp vehicle?????
I have been driving my 2005 Scion tC for nearly 17 years now. 155K miles, dark gray like the one in the video, but in much better condition - certainly cleaner. Haha! Been looking at getting a new car for a couple of years now, but honestly still like my tC. Will probably keep it even if I get something new...
Yeah it probably doesn’t owe you a dime. It’s nice to not have a car payment.
You not the only one , I have a Scion tC 05 for like 15 years. My have like 208k , and still runs perfect
@@latinluis2006 what issues have you come by?
Still have my first car and it was a scion tc, got it back in 2016, it is an amazing car
I’m glad you’re taking care of it
Such a dope car a few mods and that’ll look fire
Agreed
@@williamperri3437 Yeah it’s a very reliable car
I have this car and want to make mods without looking corny. Any suggestions?
@@ethanscofield1013 I got mine in august and I got a rear spoiler and a front lip, I want to make some performance upgrades but I don’t have the cash right now
@@yvnglb yeah I wanna make some visual upgrades and a new exhaust. I just feel like I lack experience so I’m watching RUclips and asking friends for help
Glad you like the car man. I have a 2015 gen2.5 the last version of the tC and it is a very great car. Just sucks the aftermarket support doesn’t exist anymore
Yo, the cameraman SNAPPED.
This car is hardly forgotten, its driven by so many people where I live. It's just that people who have never driven one have unrealistic expectations for it, criticizing it for not being a race car....
@Polymer Tools having owned one previously, the gas mileage was average at best. Not in the level of a Corolla.
@@smithsfan425 dude I could never get more than 22 mpg and it genuinely pissed me off that a car that small with a 4 cyl gets v6 mileage but other than that I absolutely love the car
@@daltonliles6161 yeah dude I miss my tc, I’m planning on buying an old one and putting some money into it. It was so good to me.
@smithsfan425 Dude I fuckin miss mine too. Just totalled it about a month and a half ago and I keep seeing them everywhere. It's torture.
the scion TC is powered by timing chain and not belt which makes it even a more durable car
Yeah true! Less to worry about.
I have a 2007 release series 3.0 Scion tC and agree it’s a great car.
Nice, I’ve never driven the 3.0
No car is cheap it's the owner which makes the best of it. 😁👍
The only thing is a car is probably the worst investment we make. However ty a car is amazing like not positive nor negative.
Very true
The ultimate point of reference a beer bottle.
Haha so true
@@HonJazzz this guy a relative? One of my fav YT videos. ruclips.net/video/2wyZf0iW2hA/видео.html
That bottle brake was a thing of beauty.
Haha thanks
Just so you guys know 2006-2010 ones tend to burn oil alot. So check that out before buying.
Good advice
Yea rice burner bub
Manual or automatic? Manuel is much more fun imo.
This car is an automatic, but I agree go for the manual transmission.
I had automatic 2011 6 speed with sports mode before and now i have a 2015 manual also 6 speed. It is indeed more fun to use the Manual tc😊😊
just stumbled upon this review. great job man 🤙🏼
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Purchased one of these in the summer of 2004. Wasn't a fan of the manual shifting but I got well over EPA MPG with it so I kinda wish I still had the car but with an automatic transmission.
I jus got a 2012 tc and I'm digging it so far, loved my Honda but needed something a little better price range this time...plus it looks kinda unique
Dude I love my scion tc..my car runs very well..and I barley ever have any issues with it! It's like you get that lucky 1 out of 5 cars you go through lol I'll drive it till I can't no more
Nice 👍
I have a really nice Scion 08 tc manual spec model got it going 136 on a straight road so if anyone talks shit on Tc’s. I beat multiple wrx’s imprezas and a bunch off the line you just gotta know how to drive
Heck yeah! Driving skill is underrated these days.
It's definitely one of the best cheap cars money can buy. They're fun to drive, fast as far as in-city driving goes, the passing power is definitely there and you can do so many things with them its ridiculous. But yeah, most importantly, they are RELIABLE and can take a beating.
Well said!
Haha!! Theres no way you got that close to the beer bottle first try! If so, thats not so much the car but rather you!
Im thinking of getting this as a replacement for my old hand me down beater car cuz i need something reliable and cheap to daily
These are good cars, I think you’ll like it
I really would show you a picture of mine it’s a drift car scion TC 2007
That sounds great!
So my check engine light recently came on and I thought it was the CAT as well (P0420). Turns out one of the o2 sensors was clogged and that's what was causing it to run rich. I pulled both out and sprayed them w/ carb cleaner. Reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery and ever since the car is running better than before w/ no CEL.
Nice 👍🏻
Update: it was definitely the catalytic converter =/
@@X_Squared_X I’m glad you found the problem. Maybe something aftermarket won’t be too expensive.
@@HonJazzz Amazon. $351. But cleaning the o2 sensors did help w/ a smoother acceleration. Thanks for the tips!
Try running some lacquer thinner
These are some of best cars ever made no cap
Yup 👍🏻
I might have to pick one up
You'll like it
I saw one for sale on Craigslist for about two grand really considered it this might have sealed the deal lol
@@Lampboy-yc4hl Niceeee
Put a muffler on that thing...trust me...my brother had one....it sounded crazy
What kind?
Im looking to buy this car as my first one, what would be a fair price for a 08 with good mileage and decent condition?
I only find listings of 3500+
you in the los angeles area?
I’m going to make a similar video like this as a tribute to the Scion tC with my beater turbocharged tc that I got for a thousand bucks
Awesome! I can’t wait
I feel like I’m watching a sitcom the way this was filmed I couldn’t help but laugh a few times🤣 I mean this in the best way possibly great video I’m thinking about pickin up an 06 tc with 185k miles as a daily fck it mobile
Haha thank you! I’m glad that you enjoyed and appreciate the extra effort we put into these videos.
I love my 07 Scion TC. But try to avoid 07's as some of engines consume engine oil. Mine is included. But overall, Scion TC is a very good and pratical car.
Yes good point. I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying yours.
Just bought this cute “beast” today, its my first car and i think i felt in love, even though the front of the vehicle is scratched in some places. Anyway, it seems like you know about cars, and i wanted to ask: how do you think, with the mileage of 160000 is this possible to install a small turbokit or it will decrease lifespan of the engine a lot? Its my first car, actually, but i’m dreaming about this pfffvew sound under the hood for like 6 years, but maybe my question is dumb :(
By the way, i really love your style of shooting this video, so simple and clean,if i can say so))
Hello, congratulations on your first car! You could build these engines up with a turbo, just be prepared because it will likely cost you a lot of time and money. I’d recommend just driving it as is, but to each their own.
I've been trying to look for one of these for a whole month now and I can only find overpriced ones that are being sold for $3500+ : (
Dang...
I had a 2006 tC 5 speed manual with coilovers, CAI, exhaust with 130k miles sold it for $3000 a year ago now I'm trying to buy one back for a daily but can't find any
@JAVIER GORDILLO-PEREZ
The ones I’m finding are automatics with high mileage and people are pricing them for $3500+ for the 05-06 and the 07,08,09 10 they’re being listed for $4- 4.8k which is ridiculous
I sell you my 2005 tC that's only been driven by me for all 17 years of existence. 155K miles. Asking $30K. Hahahahaha!!!!
There's one I'm trying to get it's got a turbo full body kit and spoiler and I just need 3k
Bought one after seeing this LOL
Awesome! How are you liking it?
Can you change the front bumper and back bumper and exhaust and can you get a spoiler on it???
Yes you can if you want to
aftermarket support on them is pretty good not to mention they do take parts from other Toyotas
Nice car! I loved mine
Yes indeed! I’m glad you enjoyed yours
I just got a 2010 and I love it!
Scion is owned by Toyota so technically it’s my fifth “Toyota”
I had a 91 Camry, two older Corolla n my last car was an 08 Corolla.
To sum this car up: Corolla w a Camry engine and weight.
It corners well enough but for some reason it has the turn radius of a minivan n that really bugs me. It’s basically the same length as my Corolla too.
It’s a very strange experience.
I live in the cities n enjoy the torque, but im sick of these kids in they sht box civic revving at me like it’s the fast and the furious.
The car looks fast and maybe I’d beat them off the line but at the end of the day she’s 13 with absolutely no rust. Im not risking that.
There a lot of people who think “girl car”? Idk maybe??? All three of my sisters and nieces love it lol.
From the dealer it had tinted windows an a smaller antenna. I put on those small stick on mirrors for that blind spot, spec d halo headlights as the stock ones had moisture, and I’ll probably switch the cargo light to an led. Otherwise I’m done messing with it.
At the end of the day it’s a sexy car and I’m not ashamed to admit that!
I'm glad you are enjoying yours! The car does have some quirks, but overall it's a great product. Good luck with it!
should i buy a 2008 scion tc with 144,000 miles, looking for a first car and i think it could be the winner
It could be! Just get it checked out by your trusted local mechanic.
Luv my O7 tc.
Can there be mods on this
Oh yeah. A lot of people modify these cars
My friend has a 114k miles and offering 3ish little more or a little less. Is that a good buy?? It’s 2005 new tires, breaks, transmission. Everything is is pretty good. Dodge 2001 caravan 146 miles. Thoughts guys?
I think that sounds pretty good. Make sure to check the mechanical condition and see if there is any rust.
@@HonJazzz what’s the most u should pay for a car like this one? They’re down to negotiate prices I’m definitely not pay 3k. Lol
@@wanya0got0it0goin0on if you can get it for 2,500 that would be a great deal. 3K still isn’t bad considering the price of cars these days.
Hey, I am getting a 2014 Scion for CAD 11K with 130K miles on it. Is it a decent deal? Any input are highly appreciated
I know they are good cars. I’d check local prices online to see if it’s a good deal. Definitely get it inspected mechanically too.
I don't even know who you are or why I subbed to you.
That video of the guy making car noises with his mouth
You cannot redline these cars, that toyota engine with the faulty piston rings wont take it, especially a high milage. So i cringed when he reved it high on this video. My older brother had a 2007 and blew it up reving it up high in a parking lot. but parts are cheap ..its a toyota oh wat a feeling ..Toyota
Agreed, we don't recommend redlining any car. Sometimes it's fun though.
Couldn't you just rotate the battery?
No cause the cables for each terminal are designed to be long enough to reach each terminal based on a certain position.
I dont care about my cat converter
Cat converter: 👹
U think it can be a 10 second car with a swap
All day every day
If you had balls, you would have left the bottle where it was and *then* tried those brakes.
Brick oven style Scion
The 2nd gen looks better
Like how you never mentioned the oil consumption all these engines have and the recalls for piston and rings unless you don’t no shit about it
ive had two sciont tc first gens. yes they do burn oil but i just fill it up every once in a while and it drives great
Doubt you'll pass a smog test with a bad cat.
I have a feeling there’s no emissions tests in his area
You'll be out of an engine. Change cat bro
Automatic Scion tC 🤢
