- Pickup trucks are an intrinsic part of American culture. More than just a tool, trucks have become a cultural icon in the United States, which may be one of the biggest disadvantages that plagues Toyota's half-ton pickup truck, the Tundra.

This guy is legit I've seen a few of his videos and hes always on point.
This guy's body movement in the intro made it look like he wanted to fight me or something lool
2014 4.7L SR5 owner here. 223,000 miles and 0 issues. Still going strong!
I absolutely love my 14 sr5 trd 5.7 tundra! It always makes me giggle when I pass people driving f150, ram1500, or Silverado, and they all rubberneck. Makes me think they are second guessing their 40k purchase.
lol i do the same
They rubberneck because they can't believe anyone would willingly spend tens of thousands of dollars buying an inferior product.
Good Daniel Bell......Good......let the jealousy flow through you. Now take that final step and sell that unreliable and undervalued F150 to your step brother and join us.
C4PT41NHOWDY That one made me laugh. I do have a Darth Vader bobblehead on my dash.
hummmmm
Great job with the review. Very thorough and well done. THANK YOU!
Love how everyone is like "Screw this truck, buy American".
This truck is 100% made and assembled in the US, unlike all the other "American" brands.
I saw another review that said that 75% of the parts of this are made in the US. More than any other truck out there. So this is the most American of any if the big three
tiltheendoftim3 Both of you are wrong. www.foxbusiness.com/industries/2014/07/01/ford-f-150-pickup-is-most-american-made-car/
it is because of the name brand
Designed & engineered in the US as well
I dont giv af it was 100% japanese made. The “american” brands constantly come up with shitty non reliable , constant trip to the dealer for repairs and shit.
Excellent review, Mr. Elmer! You touched on all key points with confidence and insight while adding commentary about things you won't find in any press release, all while being very natural on camera. Autoguide's reviews are now up there with MT and Edmunds!
I love how you review different trim levels, and not just the most expensive one. Very nice work :)
You guys have great reviews! looking to buy a new truck this year and your channel is my favorite for reviews! Keep up the good work
Big Thanks to Auto Guide team members for bringing us the need to know detailssssss.
Great review! One of the bests yet!
Great review! Like perumet said im also glad you reviewed more than just one trim level. Nicely done!
Hey young man!! You’ve come a long way! Good job!
This guy makes really informative reviews
Honestly I never thought of a pick up truck before, but when i drove my cousin's tundra I seriously feel inlove with it.
Great fucking car :)
good thing we got a truck expert over here thank you!
This reviewer did a good job and this truck looks sick
great review
Great review!
Well done review. Thank you
An excellent and very detailed review. Great point on lack of integrated brake controller at least on the 5.7L model, it should be standard as Ford and GMs are now and Ford's for some time now. Interior and some of the exterior heavily reminds me of the F-150. Still worth a serious consideration as a 1/2 ton tow vehicle.
I absolutly love the interior very good looking from inside it reminds me of a lexus
what a wonderful review...i really love this truck as opposed to the old one
Good review mate!
god this truck looks gorgeous inside and outside, more inside tho ..... and dude that was a great review. keep on the good work.
Great review
Excellent review
5 million recalled vehicles and it's only February. All hail the Recall King!
Ive owned vettes,.porsche,.range rover,.crown vics,.dodge ram 3500,..other makes,..was never a truck or toyota guy,...got sick of high end reliability,.high maintenance cost,..bought a Tundra crew max 2010 used a few years ago. I still love it & its the only vehicle i've ever owned that i'm 100% satisfied with & wanted to keep forever,.I like the old style better though,..new ones are ugly to me,.but inside nice.
Good review!
Man, I love the Tundra! Too bad I'm too poor to buy this one, but I can certainly admire it. I prefer Toyota over any other manufacturer out there. I have a 2001 Tacoma and in it's 14 years it has never had a problem (I touch wood, haha). I had a 1996 Camry before that and it's simply amazing how reliable these cars are.
Excellent video. Thank you very much.
Hey good review man!
Great review bud
That was a great review
nice review
Nice review
Where was this video shot at? Looks awesome.
Great video! It still gets more MPG than the F150 when towing, or just driving in town.
I traded my 06 Silverado Z71 w/ 86k miles for a 2014Tundra Platinum CrewMax Black XP edition. Every option available to include a 3/1 Leveling kit on 20 in rims and 33 inch Nitto TG's. All dealer installed and under warranty. I couldn't be happier with this truck. It looks good, runs good, feels good and sounds good and the chicks dig it! So what if I only get 13 mpg.. if you cant afford gas then walk!
My one thing to this is if you drive it well, my father has the platinum edition and he gets roughly 15 or 16 mpg driving through city and and backroads to work everyday. Though he is right the other newer trucks are getting 18ish highway maybe better.
I like this guy, good review...
My question is why do the Ram and Ford ½ ton trucks have such poor resale value? The trucks I plugged in were 2011 models with 36k miles, f150 and ram crewmax/super crew laramie and lariats 4wd with more options and compared it to a tundra dbl cab limited with less options and all were trade in value with good condition. the ram was $24k, the f150 was $23k, and the tundra was $31k. I challenge you to do the same and see the values yourself. Why is the #1 selling truck worth so little?
The biggest problem is they sell so many new trucks they flood the market with used ones which drives down the resale value. They aslo seem to offer bigger discounts on new trucks so the resale number isn't always as low as it seems.
This doesn't apply to an FX4 f150. Those are only discounted if it's a leftover vehicle, and i've never seen one with more than $3k discount. So a $42k fx4, the one i looked at after the discount, is still in the low 20s as far as resale value after 3 years. Which is horrible. If they discount the trucks soooo much then how do they make any profit? That tells me the trucks are actually overpriced like no other if they can afford to discount an XLT $7500 and make a profit.
Thamac15 The more used ones on the lot the cheaper they usually are. Wait till the new 2015 comes out the resale value will drop again. The Tundra has the best resale in the 1/2 trucks but try to find a nice used one and then try to find a nice low mileage F150 they are everywhere. I only get a new truck when I lease it and only buy it if its a year old with low miles let someone else take the hit.
I lease as well, most of the time. I only buy if I want to build a drag car or a beefy off roader to enjoy for many many years. So if someone who buys a lot of cars and gets rid of them often (should be leasing but whatever) they shouldn't be buying a brand new ford or ram then unless they want to be upside down(granting they didn't put a lot down), do you agree?
Thamac15 I would agree on that for sure. Just for shits and giggles I went to auto trader and did a 100 mile search from my zip. 2008-2014 F150 4x4 any style there are 785 for sale. Same search for the Tundra 101. I'm not making any excuses for the poor resale for the Ford but I'm telling ya there are way too many used ones for sale. I have a little over a year to go on my lease and the truck is barley worth what the buy out is now LOL that is bad.
Have you ever driven a 5.7 tundra?. It's awesome. The tundra is still faster and more reliable than the competition. So go tundra
What about a Ford F150 Limited is it worth almost $70 grand?
I got a 2010 and at first I didn't really like the new body but it has grown on me and now I like it. The only thing I wish they would've done with the new one is put in a larger fuel tank.
I recently purchased a 2014 Toyota Tundra Limited Crewmax. Love it so far about 500 miles on it. I have some questions I was looking for advice on.
1. This is my first big vehicle so can anyone provide some tips on parking in tight parking spots? I know backing in has better turning radius however I notice when I am pulling into a spot with cars on each side I feel like I am going to hit the other car, at least with 90 degree angle spots. The parking spots that are angled are not too bad. So what tips can you guys give on parking between cars whether it be backing in or pulling in forward. (I have tried wide turns but sometimes it just doesn't cut it in a small parking lot) I read somewhere about pulling up behind the car to the left and then backing up to straighten up and pull in but havent had success doing that yet :|
2. Is it normal for the Tundra to not shift when accelerating quickly until 5-6 RPM mark? The transmission and shifting is very smooth in normal acceleration and driving. However if I am at a light and decide to "punch" the gas it feels like it takes to long to shift? It runs up to 5-6 before it shifts. From what I saw online it seems like its normal. At least from the videos I have watched. Just want to get more opinions on this. I noticed when I am driving that a small range of the pedal is "soft" and its not until I pass a certain point that the power of the 5.7 V8 really feels like it kicks in
3. Anyone know what the weight limit for the tailgate and step bars are? I believe Toyota doesnt suggest a weight however I was thinking if you have people sitting on the tailgate to not exceed 600 pounds and the step bars 500? Given the step bars are just to get in the truck not to stand on but just wondering if anyone has tested or knows of what it is capable of
4. What is your real world MPG? I am getting 13.8 right now (mainly because I am still in the "test" phase, as in punch the gas sometimes)
5. Can you turn 4HI on after you start the truck or do you have to be moving? And for the month 10-15 miles using 4WD if you go in a straight line no turning can it be done on highway pavement or should it just be exercised off road? Really I think the whole 10-15 a month is just crap but I like to follow the manuals ;)
Thanks guys!
Patrick Connolly You need Jesus.
Thamac15
I am Jesus..?
ACTION AIRSOFT BATTLE VIDEOS - AMERICAN AIRSOFT Ok, I can't help you on parking, you will figure that out in time and isn't something you can be told how to do. The transmission shifting around 5-6000 rpm is normal if you are gunning it. The tailgate should be ok for up to 900 lbs unless your owner's manual states otherwise. The step bars are mounted to the frame so unless you have hippos climbing into your truck then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. As for your last question, pay close attention. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR TRUCK IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE ON A HARD, DRY SURFACE. If you do you will damage your drivetrain. The front wheels are designed to be able to slip and they can't do that on dry pavement. You should be able to turn 4 HI on in any gear under a certain speed. It should tell you in your owner's manual. 4 LO, I believe, you have to be in neutral for it to shift. The reason you need to run in 4 HI at least once a month is to let the 4 wheel drive system clean itself out, otherwise you will encounter problems.
Does it do anything better than the Silverado, Ram, or F150?
I noticed how all the trucks look almost exactly alike on the instrument panel. Chevy ford etc.
Very nice review. Is Sequoia based on Tundra?
Yup, just like hilux to fortuner
Lol embossed the Tundra logo "making it straight up- Bad Ass" lol
Great review, thanks
Looks good, would sell well in Australia. Not available for some reason?
i like this guy, great review
Image be damned. I've always liked the Toyota Tundra. I remember when it was first introduced in 2000. I remember thinking "finally! Toyota has produced a larger truck to offer people something larger than the Tacoma. At last, the Tacoma has a big brother to play with." Now what Toyota needs to offer the Tundra in order for it to compete against the Big Three is a turbo diesel engine.
good review
This guy is awesome, easily one of the BEST. Keep it up, dude!
I use to have a 2008 Toyota Tundra 4.7 engine the gas millage was sucks. I ending it returning the truck back to dealership between the payments insurance and gas was $1,100 a month. They need to step up with the gas millage.
Very nice looking truck!
wait, that 12-13mpg, is that at any highway speeds, unloaded??
Seems like a great car. Does anyone know why in some of the video (eg. @5:11) the car has a dashmounted gear selector, and in other parts has a "normal" one??
great reviewer
The difference is whether you get the upgraded captain's chairs, rather than the front bench with folding middle seat. Bench seating gets you a column shifter; captain's chairs get you a center console shifter.
Great review. It is rather silly to talk about how to "Americanize" a truck, when no trucks are actually even manufactured here.
Nice, im getting this
Damn! That 1794 version is really luxed up!
Like...Good Review with attention to detail essential for buyers
dude.nice job!!!
Ecoboost doesn't have the displacement a V8 has when towing. You need more displacement for engine braking.
I love all trucks in this segment, it all comes to taste. You really can't make a bad choice... Chevy, Dodge, Ford and Toyota makes awesome trucks!
Which state/ place this was filmed in?
Nice job. 12 mpg would turn away most before a test drive.
We can't get these Thundra in Australia cos the parking is small and driving lane is aslo small.
Perfect. Thanks.
I am curious if this 2014 Tundra has a C-Frame as 07 to 2013?
Yes, it has a triple tech frame. The same frame design that's in the Ford SuperDuty line. Fully boxed front, reinforced C channel in middle, and open C in rear. Do research on the frame and you'll see why they use it, among other manufactures of trucks throughout the world. Don't believe every negative thing you hear someone say. Research for yourself.
I'm a Toyota owner since "79. My current is a 2001 Tundra. I could buy a new Toyota but I still love driving this old truck. Only complaint is it has had more problems than the other Toyota's I've owned.
The interior looks so much better now than before.
It's a Ford {overwrought in plastichrome] grille on a Ram style hood/fenders with Chevy looking sides. But at least the name is stamped in the metal on the tailgate. Like some Jeeps...
exactly its a mix of all trucks with Toyota reliability
sharmilan raj no complaints here!
Great Truck
He says "Americanize" then uses the metric system 🤤
good job
That's a nice truck plus it's made where I live SanAntoino tx
Awesome Truck !!!
Thanks for being honest mate 💝💚
Yeah, it's a lot better than the 2005-2012, not as nice as the older (before 2004) models, but it is a change towards the better. I love that they've stopped over-doing the aerodynamic shapes.
I like my 'old' tundra with its cheap interior and oversized knobs. Thanks for knocking it.
My 2006 Tundra Double Cab SR-5 was hands down the best vehicle I ever owned. I'm driving a 2010 Tacoma Double Cab Prerunner now and wish I had the Tundra back.
I know that all manufacturers need to continuously improve their products to compete, but for the average guy, when is enough enough ? Engineers are hard pressed for new ideas and reinventing the wheel is a tough job.
I think Toyota "came of age" in light-duty truck building in 2004, as they did in passenger sedans in 2002.
@rewards, u can get one shipped to you but it costs a lot
hey! where? region in which the shot this video?
When it comes to quality, you can never go wrong with Toyota, but i still like Ford, especially with a new F 150 on the way
My '89 F-250 5.0L gets me 21mpg on the highway.
Dodge here too, best lookin truck (of course completely subjective) on the Market, solid engine, and if you go diesel, the cummins is still champ, and Now the 3L diesel for 2014 is creating quite a buzz at something close to 240HP and and 420ftlbs torque... at 30 MPG... Its Going to be interesting to see what the market does with it... I know I am Interested in it, and the 2014 Ram 1500 may be my next pickup
love this guy!!!
Looks sweet, but I like the old body style more. Sure glad I have one!
True, but my dad has a 2012 F-150 5.0L now and gets at least 19 mpg with 360 hp and 380 lbs/ft. He does have a 3.73 rear end though compared to the 4.30 in the Tundra. Perhaps a good move for Toyota would be to offer a lower number rear end for the 5.7L.
i like that the big boy drives the trucks !!
Designed in CA., Engineered in MI. & built in Texas.
there is a reason why you don't see commercials with guys saying 'I traded my 2014 Chevy Silverado for a Toyota Tundra'...lol. Tundras are the 'affordable' truck for someone that wants to look mean and cool in a truck but cant buy a GMC Sierra or a Dodge Ram. When I see American trucks such as the 2014 Chevy Silverado, I see what a definition of a truck really is. American trucks as clean lines, very bold looks, not too fat, and what a truck is suppose to look at. When I see a Tundra, I see a truck that looks like a piglet. a fat body, round, too much tacked on metal, and trying to fit in a world it doesn't belong in. Just last year Toyota 'made' over 200,000 tundras BUT only 'sold' 20,000 in the entire USA. they are making the tundra as a loss. Adding lines of plastic in front of their trucks with that small nut sack of a logo is a shame to put on a truck or even to buy when even thinking of buying this pos. GUYS buy a real truck..don't put yourself to shame buying this affordable truck.put a little bit more money down and buy a Ford, Dodge, or a GMC..a real man made truck that has the power and strength to do what you want it to do.
Tundra is the compromise of a truck...never get one..go buy a American brand truck that invented the word 'truck'...GMC Sierra, Ford F Series, Chevy Silverado, or a Dodge RAM...a tundra is a fat pig
whats the price plz tell me
Finally put the 7pin tow receiver where it won't get annihilated when off road. That's innovative Good idea!
Now all they have to do mostly is work on the fuel economy for the next model and its almost perfect maybe more aerodynamic and off road improvement too!
