Thanks for posting this! Our son is the tallest trombone player on the end, front row, closet to the camera. We get all misty eyed everytime we see him play (usually on TV). He's now a corporal w/ his bloodstripes! From Portland, OR
I love looking at these old videos. I'm so happy. I found out a week ago that my first duty station is MCAS Miramar so I'll be able to see this band live! I love Marine Corps bands
Mutt: If a member of a Marine Corps Band gets tired of playing the hymn, they should get out of the Corps. It no doubt gives them great pride to play it. Crumble: The second tune played is God Bless America. I'm shocked someone would not know that !
John Phillip Sousa was quoted as saying "Semper Fidelis" was his finest work. I would lot rather hear it than the "Marine Hymn." Don't you think that the band members get weary of playing that about 100 times on a parade route. Sheeeesh.
@@timothymacdonnell9079 I played clarinet in the MCRD band at San Diego in 1978-1979. Personally, I never got tired of playing the hymn and I never tire of hearing it. I remember our band officer was Captain Whitney. Most of us did everything we could to memorize as much of our music as we could. Most could play anything he requested without music on our lyres. So we got lazy and didn’t carry music on most jobs. He found out and called an audible by changing up a song that we NEVER played. As expected he wasn’t pleased with how the music sounded since a lot of us were faking it. We spent a lot of time being punished for that one and we never went with an empty music pouch again!
@@comeauxjc thanks for sharing. Yeah, I remember a gig that was awful and when we got back to the band hall, we had to rehearse the concert that we just played. We didn’t get home until 2 in the morning.

They're marching so perfect!!!
I've noticed that since I was in the band program the Marine's Hymn has a new introduction.
Douze ans après la musique est toujours bien accueillie

Personally, I doubt it.
I played in the band (MCRD). You’re right. I did get tired of it. The good part was I could play my memorized part forward, backward, and in my sleep.
