Hi Kait, had to check this out after you told us about it at the Clover Room last night. Great show last night, and such a haunting and soulful version captured in this video as well. Very rich and soulful. I was impressed by your finger-picking skills last night, and this song does a good job of highlighting your deft touch on the strings.
A truly hypnotic and passionate rendering of a classic Dylan song, a beautiful interpretation with outstanding guitar work and soul-searing vocals. When an artist puts this much of their soul into a song, it shows. One of the best covers of any song I've heard, and hope to hear more. Oh, the gentlemen are talking and the midnight moon is on the riverside They're drinking up and walking and it is time for me to slide I live in another world where life and death are memorized Where the earth is strung with lover's pearls and all I see are dark eyes. A cock is crowing far away and another soldier's deep in prayer Some mother's child has gone astray, she can't find him anywhere But I hear another drum beating for the dead that rise Whom nature's beast fear as they come and all I see are dark eyes. They tell me to be discreet for all intended purposes They tell me revenge is sweet, and from where they stand I'm sure it is But I feel nothing for their game, where beauty goes unrecognized All I feel is heat and flame, and all I see are dark eyes. Oh, the French girl, she's in paradise and a drunken man is at the wheel Hunger pays a heavy prize to the falling god of speed and steel Oh, time is short and the days are sweet and passion rules the arrow that flies A million faces at my feet but all I see are dark eyes.
Songs and lyrics are memorized. I won't be too discreet. Beautiful version of this great, underestimated 1985 Bob Dylan song. I love it! Thank you, Kaitlin.
You are a special performer. Back in '85, when i first heard this song, I was just back back from a tour to Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Tonga. Can you did just how much this song touched me??? Can you? It hit me like the "Star-Spangled Banner" did. In a different way, of course, but just as heavy!... yes?
Fantastic! Beautiful. And a beautiful arrangement...frustrating that the guitar is hidden...I'm trying to learn it from the sound. Thanks, Kaitlin, wonderful.
This is a great cover of a classic Bob song. It deserves to be as well known as Halleluyah, and Bob sang it great on Empire Burlesque...No one gets inside the songs like Bob...
Kaitlyn, I know what you mean as to a connection to this song. I can still remember hearing it the 1st time, a long time ago. Been a favorite ever since, and I like your version very much !
That was absolutely beautiful. I have seen the great one himself perform this live many times, it is a musical literary work of genius greater than any I have ever known.
This is the best version of this song I ever heard. Finger-picking improves it. I was thinking of doing a version but won't be able to improve on this. Lovely.
I found this while listening to your cover of The Eye which is just fantastic. Your rendition of Dark Eyes is the best out there by far, I'm sure you made Bob Dylan proud! Also you play very very well!
That was great. First time i've been grateful for RUclips autoplay, after Dawn Landes' version. Love the feel you put into the vocals, and the guitar arrangement.
I love it. Your voice is good, yes, and you hit the notes, but that's not why it's a good cover. It's because you phrase it perfectly, turning each line into a further movement of a certain feeling or idea, just like the song's writer himself. It'd make Dylan proud. Good job, and please post more videos.
Hey - I've loved that song ever since Dylan set it loose.... Way too intense, in some ways, but you certainly make it work. I intend to steal every lick from your arrangement! Every one, for sure! Thanks for posting this video. JVB
I love this song and I love the way you have performed it. You have inspired me to play it myself. Guitar and your voice are very heart felt and it is obvious. Bravo Kaitlin!!
Wow, thank you for this thoughtful comment. I'm glad you enjoyed my rendition. It's one of the few songs I cover because I can identify with it and feel like I was able to make it my own. I would love if the legend himself heard my version! Take care - I hope you enjoy my original songs as well.
An amazing performance, Ms. Rose. I believe, Bob (he, who seldom smiles) would be smiling after hearing your performance of his song. I've been a fan of yours after hearing "Own Time" for the first time, followed by "Shangh. Cigarettes" .
I definitely love this song. On my mind, Dylan wrote it nicely ( but he sang it too, unfortunately :-) ). Judy Collins has a beautiful voice but she might not be on the right track. Your voice and your way are amazing. Thank you for that moment.
Nicely done. Among my favorite Dylan songs. The best version ever is the first duet with Patti Smith. Despite Dylan's poor harmonizing, the humanity of the moment is transcendent. I suggest breaking up the fingerpicking by strumming at least the first part of the chorus. The contrast will make the chorus anthemic. Keep up the good work.
I have listened to literally thousands of Dylan covers and this is right up there as one of the best ever. Flawless performance.
"mythical reel pull" as the kids would say. i love random perfection. the song, the performance, the timing of discovery. needed this.
This is one of the best Dylan covers I have ever seen. Just truly wonderful.
+ltlwing47 Thank you very much.
Thank you so much! It is lesser known...I feel very connected to this song. Thanks for listening and leaving a comment!
Awesome song, very well-known to me, and an awesome rendition that you managed to pull off, young Lady! Bravo they would say here in France!

A beautiful rendition of dark eyes
This is the best cover I have heard yet. The guitar work is impeccable, and the voice is faultless.
