  • Pickled eggs is one of those recipes that has been in the Baty family for years. Seen on all of our hunting trips, including many with Randy Newberg, is this infamous cuisine.
In this video, Kirstin and Wade will take you on their journey of making pickled eggs. If you try making these yourself, let us know! Good luck! (And leave a window open ;) )
    Effie O. Baty
    Spiced (Pickled)Eggs
    12 Hard Boiled Eggs
    2 C Apple Cider Vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp Salt
    1 Clove Garlic
    1 tsp Pickling Spice
    3 T Sugar
1/2 pkg Polish Sausage * Optional
    1 Quartered Onion *Optional
Simmer all ingredients together (except eggs) for 5 minutes. Pour hot liquid over peeled eggs, sausage, and onions. Keep spices with eggs. Store at room temperature. Allow 2-4 weeks resting for optimal flavor.
**HUGE SECRET! Use old eggs 🥚, 2-4 weeks old. They are way easier to peel. **

Thanks for the info, just did 4 dozen eggs and 3 pounds of kielbasa sausage and got 6 quarts. So exciting to preserve proteins without all the "canning" stuff. don't get me wrong, we have about 200 pounds of meat canned and a whole lot more veggies canned in the cellar; But this project did not take that much work beyond peeling the eggs. We did take our oldest eggs and most peeled well, but peeling the eggs is the only thing about this that stinks. Thanks for the info, we already got them in the cellar and planning on another spicy batch. 3 dozen young hens and no farmers markets so we are swimming in eggs right now.

I keep reminding myself to make some. This is the first recipe I've seen that has used Apple Cider Vinegar. I'll bet that pickled garlic would be delicious as well.
One recipe I saw, included a tip of poking a skewer down the length of the egg before brining. It supposedly helped the pickling to permeate through the egg more.
How could you have done it without your helper's efforts? Now, you KNOW... we need the f/u video of him sampling his creations.

    • @wildernessridgetrailllamas6971
      @wildernessridgetrailllamas6971  3 года назад

Interesting. I haven't heard about the skewer thing before. It would definitely speed up the process. Wade actually doesn't mind the eggs or sausage. He has been eating them since he could eat normal food. He picks the "yellow ball" out of the eggs though. That dry pickled yoke tends to make him gag ;)
