I was playing bass in a "party" band a few years ago (my first real band) and we were preparing for our first gig (a fundraiser for a Jewish community center) and we added this song. Now, I'm a classic rock guy. I was familiar with the song, but I had no idea it was the B-52's. Once I learned the bass line and we ran through the song the first time, I was hooked. We had two female singers and our drummer came out from behind the kit to do the lead singing. He had the voice and the theatrics. When we played it at the gig, it was a huge hit. There were already plenty of people dancing but I think that song emptied all the chairs. When I saw the Sing It Live video the other day it took me back. This song is just so much fun to do. That band I was in broke up a few months later and I haven't been in another band, let alone played bass since then. But the memories of playing Love Shack and a few of our other songs is something I will never forget. I loved watching this video and hearing about what went into doing the song and I found myself relating to so much of it, it was great. Love Shack, baby!
Crafty & Darren so interesting to hear the back stories on songs and how it all comes together. Thanks guys 😊 Would love to see SIL on that Verandah with that view 😍 doing Here Comes The Rain Again... Eurythmics 🤩
Suggestions: I ran (A flock of seagulls) I wear my sunglasses at night (Cory Hart) Life is a highway (Tom Cochran) Angel (Aerosmith) Listen to your heart (Roxette) Safety dance (Men without hats) Total eclipse of the heart (Bonnie Tyler)
Darren you are awesome. The work that you do is fantastic and very much appreciated.Crafty all that you do is great too.Lovexthat verhanda you were sat on,it has a beautiful view and the fencing is beautiful.Thankyou Crafty for the video. Beat Wishes Hazel in the UK 🇬🇧
I don't like 'Love Shack' either but you did great with it.Nikki and Chloe as well as the rest of you did a fantastic job.Thankyou for this video Crafty. Best,Wishes Hazel in the UK 🇬🇧.
As music gets easier to replicate digitally the more I've come to appreciate "Live" music. When Covid hit, searching out live music on youtube is what led me to Darren and his projects. Its what keeps bringing me back. Getting these peaks behind the scenes and getting a sense of the personalities behind the music is bonus.
Hey guys.....long time musician and remember folks requesting songs during your break between sets....We were a rock band and a fella asked us if we would play some Hank Snow (old old country music). But my request is, The Smithereens song..The Blues Before and After... Your bassist will love his part and it's a great song. BTW...you all did a great job on Love Shack.
Ok, off the top - absolutely lovely scenery... as for potential tunes - how about Heart's "Love Alive" for Darren's front porch? Those harmonies!!! I'd love to hear that. Also, something a little more "jazzy," there's Sade's "Your Love is King." My not to neighbor friendly request would be Frankie Valli's "Who Loves You?" That's one I'd be grateful to hear even from Darren's "love shack, " aka the basement. Always thankful for the BTS, Crafty! Waiting patiently to see what you decide to do! 🇵🇷 🙏
In my younger years I used to do a lot of filling in and session work. There was a lot of stuff I Didn’t like to play as I was the youngest nipper and my tastes were very much different. However, I believe that I was very lucky as I got to play with some of the best musicians I have the pleasure of knowing and they taught me a lot. So crap songs be damned, I learned so much. Did the small venue thing for some years as well as some big ones. Unfortunately life kicked in and I had to hang up my axe for a while as music for me, while it puts me in my happy place, didn’t pay the bills. I did practice most days but didn’t play on stage for 20+ years until last year I got going with a band again. Unfortunately it wasn’t working so I am now looking for another gig. The nice thing about AZ is that you are spoiled for choice. I have done a little session work as well. Loving my new found playing again.
Production values are getting better on these "Behind the Sound" segments, Crafty! Like the multi-cam interview and snappy editing on this one. Really enjoyed this one!
Hi Crafty, great video nice to see you and Darren just having a chat. If you are looking for slightly odd tracks to put on the list how about "Hit me with Your Rhythm Stick" Ian Dury and the Blockheads.
You guys had a lot of fun on this one! We've gone full "ears" in our room as well.. so I'm getting more headphones and splitter amps for the other people in the room so they hear more than just silent strumming and the acoustic kit, haha
Darren your an awesome producer man,,,,, the video looks and sounds great. Dont ever stop doing this in your studio because that place produces a special feel that we out here LOVE!! AND Crafty man, your rockin awesome, keep dancing bro, love it! And the girls,,, Stunning stuff!
"Musical ho's" LOL! But you guys did it so well. Love Shack might not have been my favorite back then but it never irked me as much as when we'd get requests for the Electric Slide or the Macarena. Yep, we were musical ho's too and did it for the money! Crafty - where did you get those GLASSES! Way cool.
I remember liking it when it 1st came out but never understood the wild reaction it gets, just like blister in the sun another song where people just go inexplicably crazy.
Really interesting to hear about the song and how it played out originally in Australia - that radio stations would not play it! It was huge in the states, and it was probably one of the biggest hits of the B'52s which was followed by Roam, their second biggest hit ever on the same album. That album in particular was a strong one for them being produced by Dan Was and Nile Rogers, each doing about half of the album. Roam was produced by Nile Rogers. Love Shack by Don Was. Thanks for recording this discussion it is really interesting. Figuring out the quick rhythm of the guitar that quickly is really impressive! Roam would be another B52s song people would love.
There are some songs that you just have to grin and bear as a musician, such as Kool and the Gang "Celebration". Great work guys. Hire your dog as a backup singer!
"Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed would be a good front porch song. Mellow bass line, sax, and vocals, brushy drums - just what the neighbors ordered!
Now, the view from the veranda might be very nice, but if I was at Darren's house I would never leave the basement! Great video Crafty and a great performance from yourself. My dogs are going mad barking at Harley whenever he wanders in shot. My song for outside (or inside) as Darren knows has always been "Alive and Kicking" by Simple Minds. One of these days he'll cave and record it...

I go to a lot of classic rock concerts... never would have thought I'd be addicted to a covers band! Such great musicianship on every memory you bring to life. Love ya! How about some Night Ranger and Damn Yankees? High Enough would be a great porch song!
For a song on the deck ,try 'Lonley Is The Night' by David Hasselhoff',i am a big David Hasselhoff fan and that would be awesome if it was covered by you. Thankyou Hazel
kind of like the movie Tommy Boy, which was iconic for my generation. When the main actors screened the movie it was the first time everyone found out what the movie was going to be. It was so ad libbed. rare these days to have something purely created by random artistic ability,
You could probably record on your balcony using an e-kit for drums and everything else straight to the mixing board. I see more and more videos where everything almost quiet on stage is a new trend. Being a drummer who has played an e-kit, it isn't the same thing but maybe newer kits have more of the nuances of an acoustic kit.
Fantastic discussion. But when Darren says ''we do stuff and we play music we weren't always 100% aligned with because the crowd want it'' it reminded me straight away of this very funny sketch from British comedy show Big Train in 2002 (clip is short, less than 2 minutes) ruclips.net/video/p1YNEtaHbzAp/видео.html1YNEtaHbzA
Okay, since you're talking about people requesting...5 o'clock somewhere, Listen to the Music, I could give you hundreds of suggestions, but those two just popped up in my mind.
It shouldn't come as a surprise that not every song is a favorite of the band - but you guys always look like you're having the time of your lives! The mark of true professionals - just like Crafty's ability to pick up and play the guitar part on the spur of the moment! The bit when Chloe strums the guitar is priceless! As for a softer song suitable for the deck - how about Mel singing Dusty Springfield's sultry ballad "The Look of Love"? ruclips.net/video/mbaySb6HXqs/видео.html
Rock stars, huge decks, living the dream boys, in gods country too. Also please listen to the people whom I am representing and perform Evie parts 1 and 2 and also part 3 if time permits. Lfg

Great work Crafty, a song for the verandah, Ventura Highway by America
As long as you're talking about songs you might do... I been thinking Kiss From a Rose seems like it's right up your alley.
And the final word from Darrell:
"Yeh Yeh. Just keep touching my bum. It's all good."
Nice way to finish. 😁

I dunno about Sade, that's a once in a lifetime voice that's really hard to emulate.
@Crunkboy415 I'm pretty sure Mel or Rachel could pull it off... but, yeah, it would be Mel or Rachel and not Sade, who is VERY unique, no doubt 👍
Great BTS video! Front porch song suggestions: Kissing a Fool by George Michael, and Take A Bow by Madonna/Babyface.
Here's a suggestion for an acoustic session on Darren's second floor outdoor porch: Have Andy Seymour do a cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game."

My front porch song suggestion is Wicked Game by Chris Isaak, with its mellow, haunting vibe.

Crafty this was another great song. Never one of my favorites. You guys make it fun to listen and watch. I will keep watching from Orlando.
Another great insight - Love the inside scoop especially on the Guitar part - energy and vibe cannot be faked well done team 👏

You all hit it out of the park on this one. When you get to the end of a song, do you know when the result is extra special?
Top chat Crafty & Darren.
