... absolutely fantastic content with excellent camera work and professional dialogue... not forgetting immense skill!.. Subbed immediately to Peter's channel 'The Naked Watchmaker'. Thanks again Marc for another fab video! keep it up....Viva!!
Now this really is quality content! Helps with the understanding of how these little mechanical marvels actually work. Makes me a little sad having to wait that long, but at least you are releasing it to the general public. Thanks :-)
Hi Marc! :) Great video as always! It’s always impressive to see a movement being disassembled, each time my admiration and respect for the watchmakers become bigger. Continue with such beautiful content! p.s. At the end of the video you say that the second part is for the 5+ Patreons, but on Patreon it appears to be only for the 10+ ones. Was it a lapsus in this video or a mistake in uploading the other one to Patreon?
I am running to Patreon just now, I need the second part. By the way, this section can't be more interesting. It is not only about watching a movement in detail, it is also about why the piezes are made in the way they are, and here ,in this video, is the only place to have an explanarion of it. Thanks so much for sharing and thanks also to Peter Speak-Marine
SUBSCRIBED. I Love your channel. I have the Sea Dweller 2017 & am planning to buy the 116610LV Hulk. Watching this video & my respect & admiration for Rolex has grown manifold
Thank you for a really interesting video.... Mr!? I actually don't know your name, but I do know that there are few -- if any -- watch enthusiasts that are able to deliver the type of content that you can. I will keep watching and liking every quality video you put out, and I also like your rationale behind letting your patreons view footage in advance. Perhaps one day I will be a patreon.
Looking forward to the next part and will become a Patreon in the near future as I have followed the channel for many years now (formerly GFORCE). What I think would be interesting is to see an ETA/Valjoux/Sellita IWC get deconstructed to see what or if they actually "improve" something to justify their prices for some of their watches. Cheers, Giacomo
This was fantastic ! I own a 30 year old submariner, it is my most solid and reliable watch that is almost my daily wear, it doesn't stand out or draw attention, but the finish quality is magnificent. And it goes with almost anything I am wearing.
I wish he did a date sub so everyone could see how ingenious the Rolex instantaneous date change is. Although I will say the giant perlaged bridge of the no date version on the dial side of the movement is pretty awesome...
zengmingde No they don't, I have a Hamilton with a basic 2824 and it changes day and date instantly. Unless you consider 1/10 of a second a transition period.
Logan Newcome the 2824 is semi instantaneous, the 2836 is instantaneous. The Rolex system is very unique and pretty awesome. It uses a small jewel that rolls along a gear with a specially designed post that makes it instantly change at midnight everytime. It's really pretty sweet.
This is the first YT watchmaker video I've seen where the watchmaker actually uses brass tweezers vs steel and a blade screwdriver that has a blade of lesser width than the screw's slot. I've seen many watchmakers scratch the chamfer countersink hole in a bridge with the blade of the screwdriver because there is no play for the screwdriver blade to move laterally.
I have the exact same model and the dial is ever so slightly tilted clockwise (in relation to the rehaut engraving). Can such misalignment be corrected by a watchmaker?
This movement illustrates why Rolex can stand up to a very active lifestyle of its wearer in a way that few watches can. I for one have put them thru their paces for the past 30 years and I have never had one fail me. With that said I think their pricing in recent years is absurd.
Wonderful video! Full of unique informations hardly found anywhere. The quality is fantastic too, congrats I bought my Submariner just two days ago so this video really is interesting!! Why are the automatic rotors in red ? Are they ceramic to minimise friction ?
any idea why the hands are made of white gold? its just adding weight to them as gold is about twice as heavy as stainless steel. or is it for the sparking look?
I Condone & Endorse! White gold is problematic, I wish they'd use some type of stainless steel for the hands, etc, like the machined spring-bar tubes and captive pins. But no-date Subs are just plain silly looking in these contemporary cases, there was a time and place for that, but not today.
¡¡ GREATEST !! SAVED FOR REFERENCE, THANKS. ( NEED TO BUY " SPECIAL DIES' TO INSTALL ROLEX ACRYLIC CRYSTAL CASE # 1675 TO PREVENT BRITTLE OR DAMEGE'DURING ASSEMBLY) MY 50 YRS OLD ROLEX GMT PEPSI BEZEL 😢( BRITTLE PREVIOUS ONE) BERGEON OR HOROTEC # REFERENCE THANKS RALPH 🙏 .
Too late, I just did do this at home, to a Milgauss, a Day-Date & a Sea Dweller, had to remake the helium valve because you can’t realistically buy one.
The Zenith watch that was taken apart before has.a better finished and more complex movement than this Rolex....yet it's a cheaper watch (at least on the second hand market)..go figure!!! It goes to show you what marketing can do...if done well.
Makes me want to pull my Deep Sea apart. It can go just a tiny bit further down in my swimming pool than the Submariner can. 😝😎 I know the case back on the Deep Sea is actually high grade titanium .I have owned a late Submariner with the SEL as well. The Submariner just seems so under constructed than the Sea Dweller series. And the Deep Sea is a monster compared to the cool Submariner. I just had it fully serviced and pressure tested. I love the Rolex sport watches. I am absolutely not a Rolex dress watch fan at all. One of my largest purchase when I first started purchasing watches was the Daytona I still own. When I purchased it I was so excited but over time I started to realize I had spent so much for a 18k Daytona. This was back in the late 80's. Now it is every bit worth what I paid and a ton more. But the last time I had it serviced just under 2 years ago. It set me back a staggering amount for the service. I have the very first Rolex I received from my grandfather who was a well respected watchmaker. It is a 6694 Oyster date precision. It has a really weird Rolex stretch type band. Yes it is a actual Rolex band or bracelet. It needs a service as it is running about 21 seconds a day slow. I have recently stepped away from Rolec and I am currently collecting microbrand Suisse automatic chronographs.
Incredibly interesting series, please keep it up, but the second half is locked for less than $10 patreons! I am at the $5 tier and can't watch it, please fix this
Very interesting. Very cleverly gets you hooked and then pulls the rug, like handing out crack cocaine at the school gates until you are dependent and will pay anything for your next hit.
WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU USE THAT CHEAP LUG REMOVER on a 10k watch? Spend a few hundred and get the plier version that will not knick and scratch the case. PLEASE!!!
Rolex is the most overrated ever. Its watches are ugly, nothing exclusive, always the same designs year after year. Nothing of innovation. If you compare Rolex versus the other companies like patek, vacheron, breguet, bovet, inclusive versus the most new in the business like mb&f, hyt, greubel, etc ....Rolex is the last one of all. Rolex sucks.
The quality of this video is much, much higher than that of the first one. Massive improvement! Congratulations to Mad and team.
Thanks and will continue to improve hopefully ;)
I love the little timer you've put on the top left corner, very innovative
Thanks ;) have a great day
Just wanted to join all positive comments left here and thank the author for such a great ideas and video material
I knew the Rolex sub was something special and watching one being taken apart was magic.Thankyou
Very welcome and thanks!
one of the most satisfying 18mins of my life watching this video..thanks Marc!..🤓
I could listen to your voice all day. I bought a 34mm Oyster Perpetual last month and I adore it. I like knowing what’s inside it
... absolutely fantastic content with excellent camera work and professional dialogue... not forgetting immense skill!.. Subbed immediately to Peter's channel 'The Naked Watchmaker'. Thanks again Marc for another fab video!
keep it up....Viva!!
And a huge VIVA to you too!!!
Best informative piece I can find on internet. Thanks much!!!
You're very welcome, happy you like this!
Great video! And the watchmaker has such a nice manner. Lovely presentation. Thanks.
these videos are so interesting and quality of camera work, brilliant!
Many thanks for this nice comment! All the best to you
What material are those two red wheels in the auto unit made of?
The movement looks better and is decorated more than I expected.
True, especially that no one sees it normally!
Amazing to watch this video, owned Rolex almost 20 years but never fully appreciated what was inside them before.
Happy you got to finally see what was inside!!!
Atleast someone is interested in deconstructing in a beautiful peace of art and engineering.Great job WatchesTv.Love u people
Great video and commentary explaining what the different components do
Great video, I like how Peter manages it.
What a great idea and so well executed. Great job, again!
Finally made a patron out of me... You know I cant wait for the rest of the video!
Well as you can imagine, this makes me very happy ;) thanks a lot!
Brilliant to see the watch I have taken apart. never seen the inside of it before great video
Nice design. Thanks to Watches TV and Mr Speake-Marin for this education.
Thanks a lot, very nice of you! Have a great day
TheWATCHES.tv Thank you!

Yes, was going a bit against my philosophy, but we need to treat our patrons well, they totally deserve it and we all benefit from them! Best to you
Yeah I completely understand. It's the best for the channel, so I support it!
People shouldn't have to pay you to see the rest of this video, they should WANT to because of what a great video this one is ♥️
Now that's a nice thought, thanks a lot!!
Superb content. Keep it coming.
Count on us and thanks!
Clever I never really thought about the cut outs on the Rotor. Shock protected rotor. Nice.
brilliant video! I undestand the automatic wind system finally. Many thanks for perfect video!
Happy you liked it!
Que bien que haya sustitulos al español excelentes videos 👍saludos desde 🇪🇦
That background in white triangles is awesome as it moves in and out.
Thanks!

I am sure your video are just getting better and better. So interesting and well made.
Thanks a lot!!

Great, very happy about it and congrats!
wow, gracias por producir estos videos son geniales!
De nada!!!!
"Diving" into the no date Sub, literally! The best part is I own one and seeing the movement in detail is quite an experience. Thank You!
Happy that we could bring this to you!
Exactly my thought and feelings.
Thank you for a really interesting video.... Mr!? Hi Giacomo and very good comment!!!

You should run with these deconstruction videos and make more of them!
great video, nicely done sir! 👏👏big fan
I wish he did a date sub so everyone could see how ingenious the Rolex instantaneous date change is.
Although I will say the giant perlaged bridge of the no date version on the dial side of the movement is pretty awesome...
Karson Barnes What's special about it? Even the basic 2824 has an instant date Change
the rolex date change happens in a split second. 2824s have a transition period
zengmingde No they don't, I have a Hamilton with a basic 2824 and it changes day and date instantly.
Not as special as the Zenith Elite date change....made in the early 1990's, it could do fast changing in both directions..
I could watch this all day! Can you do a disassembly of a Skydweller?
I have the exact same model and the dial is ever so slightly tilted clockwise (in relation to the rehaut engraving). Can such misalignment be corrected by a watchmaker?
Awesome video! Thanks so much for sharing, very interesting and fascinating at the same time 👍🏻
Glad you liked it and we'll have more of these coming soon ;) Have a great day
GREAT informative video on the Rolex Submariner! This Watch Maker really knows what he is doing. Thank you for posting.
Master craftsman - mesmerising !
Fantastic video! Really is one of the best technical channels for watch lovers.
Love this!
More coming ;)
Good show gentlemen. I thoroughly enjoy the education.
Very welcome!
awesome edition
Are you green screened over that animated wall background? Because the keying is very good if so.
You're a pro ;)
This movement illustrates why Rolex can stand up to a very active lifestyle of its wearer in a way that few watches can. I for one have put them thru their paces for the past 30 years and I have never had one fail me. With that said I think their pricing in recent years is absurd.
2:12 when remove the spring bar I always cover the lugs.
Great vid, very reassuring explanations (if that makes any sense!) Cheers
Awesome work guys.
I loved it!
Great!!!
Wonderful video! Full of unique informations hardly found anywhere. The quality is fantastic too, congrats
I bought my Submariner just two days ago so this video really is interesting!!
Why are the automatic rotors in red ? Are they ceramic to minimise friction ?
Did you get an answer for the red wheels ?
Fantastic video. You have the best watch videos. You should have a million subscribers. I would love to see this for a JLC watch.
any idea why the hands are made of white gold? its just adding weight to them as gold is about twice as heavy as stainless steel. or is it for the sparking look?
No dust at all? How to keep it dust free?
I've been waiting for this. Can't thank you enough :)
How I love watching a skilled craftsman at work. And the video is very good quality too, keep up the good work!
Holy cow what an ingeniously designed mechanism, and his knowledge to take it apart, seemingly somewhat unfamiliar.
What is the dimensions of movement??
very charismatic showmaster
Awesome!!
This is why rolex is expensive. Everything is perfect finishing, techniques and positioning of each parts. Amazing.
Compared to what? The Zenith taken apart before on this channel is finished better..Rolex is expensive because of good marketing..
Are you secretly making watches on the side Peter, for your own personal personal satisfaction?
Amaaaazingg againnnn !!!
So this guy is the founder of Speake-Marin watches.... Strange it wasn't mentioned in the video.
Very very nice video. IMPRESSIVE!!!! Thank you for the video.
Happy you enjoyed it, thanks!!
BTW, I just got my new Submariner two days ago, so looking inside this watch through your video was intriguing.
Really great video great information sub today thank you
Thanks a lot and welcome aboard!! Have a lovely weekend
can you do this with the new 3235 movement??
I Condone & Endorse! White gold is problematic, I wish they'd use some type of stainless steel for the hands, etc, like the machined spring-bar tubes and captive pins. But no-date Subs are just plain silly looking in these contemporary cases, there was a time and place for that, but not today.
Oh my gosh i never learned sooooo much he is awesommmme unbelievible teacherrrrr oh my gooshh this video is awesomeee
Happy you're happy!!!

BERGEON OR HOROTEC # REFERENCE THANKS RALPH 🙏 .
Marvellous video. Can you do the next one on ETA ? Then i might understand why you not a big fan of Rolex....😉
This will come for sure!
Yes Please on the ETA! 2824 or a 2836!
Too late, I just did do this at home, to a Milgauss, a Day-Date & a Sea Dweller, had to remake the helium valve because you can’t realistically buy one.
Excellent!
Thanks!
He made that look so easy

Are some of those gears jeweled ? I mean the reddish ones

The watch belongs to The Hour Glass?
captivating af
10/10
Very happy you like this!!! Thanks a lot
Hmmm..So it would be easy to convert a Sub to a manual wind beast.
so even an expert watchmaker lets the bracelet scratch against the case.
*Goes to tool box...removes caseback* best everyday watch the 114060
this is the scariest video i've ever seen!!!
Mantab kawan
I mean, a few times
Very interesting. Very cleverly gets you hooked and then pulls the rug, like handing out crack cocaine at the school gates until you are dependent and will pay anything for your next hit.

Not totally comparable though, Rolex is indeed an industrial product, but they do their job well. Best to you
manduheavy vazquez comparing rolex to GF or MB&F, oh boy, got a lot to learn.
