There is also the 14060M, which in its early stages of production, was not COSC certified, so it was still a 2-liner. When comparing the 14060M with the newer 114060, the only differences are physical differences, because they both have the same 3130 movement. Not exactly sure which one to choose, but it comes down to the dial simplicity and finer case aesthetic of the 14060M vs the sturdier, more resistant construction of the case, bracelet, bezel, the 4 lines of text, and the larger hour markers and hands of the 114060.
Yes, this is really the only debate. I think if you're just concerned over the aesthetics, then I think the old 14060 is the watch to get, it looks vintage while giving you the 'newer' movement that doesn't make it feel like you're compromising. But I got the 114060 because I wear that watch almost as my beater, so the tougher qualities (ceramic bezel, bigger more robust bracelet) comes in handy. I probably shouldn't wear it like that given the value and the way the grey market is going about pricing out these watches... but I have 2 other watches that I rarely wear and so the 114060 becomes 'the watch' for me. In any case, best advice I can give, is just wear it... that watch was made to be a tool and it's an awesome look either way you go.
Yes, the 5 digit is beautiful. I’m not sure why they ever changed it. Thanks for the comment. If you enjoy the content, I’d really appreciate it if you subscribed to our channel!
The older one is like a beautiful, slim mistress with a LOT of "history". The new one is like a fat, good and sensible wife who cooks good food. Seriously, it's not even funny how much better the old one looks.
A single service cost will be $900+ ... so, they really would be the same price (if purchasing 14060 for $1,000 less plus service). That makes it a no brainer between the two ... the 114060 has a better movement, 10 year service period, better bracelet, better bezel, better dial, better case, and better clasp.
It's really crazy. From a spec standpoint, there's no contest between the two...for essentially the same cost. There is something special about the "vintage" aspects. I really wish there was a modern version (ceramic), new bracelet, but with the older proportions. Maybe one day.
there is nothing special in what they did. what is special to me is that how rolex can fuck over many people but people still play their game LOL. they jacked up the price of their sport models every year and play with supply. Oh dear. i used to like rolex and their offerings, but now i just cant justify of how much they are charging for sport rolex. in some areas, i heard they also started to implement some ridiculous rules like you cant have your warranty card or sth. they originally wanted to charge my dad for 700 USD extra for replacing the dial etc and being sneaky. i was so shocked when they asked 1800 usd. Are you kidding me?? what you wanna do with a fucking datejust anyway? this is not even a complicated watch. and then they said Oh we wanna replace the dial, etc. I said , no thank you. dont touch the dial, JUST SERVICE THE DAMN WATCH!! they finally took away 700 usd and charged 1100 usd. i still feel that my dad was fucked. but what can we do? fuck rolex.
There's a reason why 5 digit Subs are often selling as much as or higher than the new C's. They just look and feel a thousand times better. I would not be at all surprised if Rolex reverts back to the classic proportions at some point, with all the mod cons.
You are right! Whether the SD or the submariners: Ceramic VS Pre-ceramic, they feel and wear totally different. One is a "vintage looking piece" and the other is a modern Rolex. Wether ceramic or pre-ceramic, just gorgeous looking watches!
I still prefer the older model. The lugs and crown guards seem much too heavy for the rest of the watch. I've had a 16610 for 25 years, diving all over the world and it's still going strong. I know it's fashionable to bash the date but when I bought mine they couldn't give the 14060 away. :)
I had it serviced at the shop I bought it in. About 10 years ago. Since then, I've gotten into watchmaking and have been servicing my own watches. It can be a challenge finding genuine parts as the major watch manufacturers control it with an iron fist. Also, don't get me wrong the new watch's bracelet is head and shoulders above the old. I'm not so sure about the ceramic bezel, we'll have to see how that holds up with time.
This is my first automatic watch and I absolutely love it despite the negative reviews rolex seems to get. I think the weight on this watch is perfectly heavy and I love the metal band! Overall great buy!
Great video and of course beautiful time pieces. However I mostly prefer the 14060 because its size and history. Aren’t we all somehow attracted to submarine particularly when seeing this model in movies or on celebrities :) If someone offers me this two watch with unworn condition and same price, I would definitely prefer the 14060. Thanks for the video again.
Good question. I don’t think you would be able to flip flop the bands but i could be wrong. The lug width is the same but they fit so perfect, I’m not sure it would work. Why would you want to do that? Assuming you like the 5 digit watch head and 6 digit bracelet?
