Funny how Jack's view on the Mazda 3 has changed 180 degrees. He was so upset with the turbo initially that Mark had to calm him down. Now he's selling his appreciation of the Mazda 3 to Mark.
It’s all perspective. He was pissed because he was expecting an enthusiast hot hatch. Now that his expectations are set, he really appreciates what it’s meant to do
IMO that speaks even more to the car. If someone can go from such a low point of perspective for the car to appreciating it and actually enjoying it for what it does, then there really is something of value there.

Mazda makes good cars. I tested a Mazda CX-90 not too long ago, and I was more comfortable in it; and it felt more upscale than my Acura RDX (2021).
I ended up trading the RDX lease for a Mercedes GLB (optioned out). But Mazda feels like premium brand at times to me.

I've owned 1 Mazda in my life. The damn thing has well over 200,000 miles and still not a single issue with it. Not even minor engine trouble. It's a 2014 Mazda 6. It's even more amazing because it was the first year of the new model after they ditched Ford.
I had one also, my Mazda 6 had nothing but problems and was a complete piece of crap. Would never own another one again.

escaping from Ford's clutches resulted in significantly increased reliability...my 2004 6 with the V6 had a failed engine at 110k miles, amongst numerous other mechanical failures. And I've owned 5 Mazdas...late 90s-late 2000s is a terrible era and should be avoided.

@@tylerrynberg I'm the original owner of a 2004 Mazda 6 wagon with manual. My only issues have been oil leaks from the Ford V6. Maintenance has been very low. I only have 145K miles on it. I'm still running the original clutch. Didn't change the brakes till 100k miles.
It's objectively the best car in every segment. Mazda 3 is a competent SUV, CUV, Hatchback, Coupe, Supercar, Tank, APC, Truck, Sherpa & boat. Hands down, fr fr, no cap. Fax.

Just drove my 2019 NA FWD hatch 10 hours yesterday with basically zero fatigue. I also find myself looking back at it when I get out, after 2 years of ownership. Love this car, I’ll probably drive it until it blows up.

It doesn't even need more power to be hot imo, just needs to handle better. They absolutely could've done a more performance oriented version with IRS. Like VW started putting a beam rear on their economy cars but gave the GLI and GTI IRS. Mazda seemingly lost their ethos of making fun everyday cars after the Ford era, they just wanna be Toyota 2 now.

I'm bummed this is the last mazda 3 video as I get excited for each one. I love my 19 premium awd hatch and Jack is spot on that it's easy to live with and great all around. I have no regrets buying this car. It might end up being my wife's car if I decide I need a more enthusiast type vehicle since mine is NA as she loves this car too. I wouldn't be able to get rid of it though, it's too good for the price and looks great inside and out.
I got rid of my NA 6-Speed about 4 years ago when the wifey convinced me I should get a Mustang GT (seriously). I loved that car, and with the torque vectoring I could go incredibly fast around certain off ramps more confidently than with the Mustang: the rear end NEVER came around, U could just stay on it.
When it was time for her to get a new ride a couple weeks ago, we tested every small SUV below the Macan - the CX-30/3 was nicer inside than every single one - with Mercedes coming in second. Finally, after looking at EVERY CAR - some much more expensive - she decided on the 3 Hatch Turbo! I couldn't be happier.
I don't know what I like better, Mark's meatball fiasco or Jack throwing banana peels out of the Caddy while aping out on the track.
At 8:33 I honestly could not disagree more that this vehicle is a entry level luxury vehicle. I just bought a 2023 mazda 3 gt AWD turbo and a lot of the handling issues and “dead input” feelings they talk about with the 2021 model are gone in the newest version. Mazda massively improved their GVC performance and you can really feel it in the corners. If you are someone going from a normal 2.0 (or smaller) 4cyl, (I upgraded from my 2014 GS) to this, it feels like you are driving a vehicle that is performance oriented and very hot. I will concede, it is an extremely refined vehicle, it does not have the same raw power and feel of a speed 3, that being said, this car is no slouch and absolutely flies, albeit it doesn’t feel like the car is falling apart. This car is also manufactured and assembled in Hiroshima Japan and still has the JDM stamp in the door sills and on the engine block which is meaningless to most, but important to me, as I respect the craftsmanship of the Japanese (completely personal preference). I must say however, at $37,000 msrp Canadian, what are my other options? The Acura integra is a boat with CVT, smaller engine, more expensive and no AWD. The Honda civic has no AWD until you buy a civic r and the price increase is just absurd. A Jetta isn’t even in this conversation, a Camry maybe, but it fails even harder at being fun. Which leaves me with Subaru or a VW Golf? No thanks, the mazda is cheaper then both of those and comes with AWD and turbo (which I could only get in a golf R which costs $65,000+). To be completely honest, mazda completely destroyed all their competition with this car, and it’s not even close.

I need to drive a 2023 model but I owned a 2021 and sold it because it was too boring compared to the previous gen Mazda3. I’d be surprised that they changed it that much from 2021 to 2023 in terms of driving experience
The Civic doesn't need AWD it handles amazing and adding unnecessary weight and lowering its mpg for better traction and launches isn't the point of the car, there's a Golf for that and even the Corolla has AWD option now. But I don't think AWD is as important as people think it is and agree with Honda's design choice for the size of the vehicle and what its made for it's really unnecessary and just adds cost without good reason. They aren't trying to compete with Subaru and Volkswagen.
To each his own. They are driving tons of cars many of which are performance specs or high end luxury so they have plenty of experience but perhaps high expectations. For normies like us who only drive our cars and occasional rentals, the power and performance of this car feels good. Coming from a previous 2.3 NA to this was plenty for me.

It is strange how cars have become so much about the "experience", when I, and I'm sure many others, really can appreciate a car that disappears under us when we just want to get home. I'm a bit older and I miss the days when comfortable, quiet, good riding cars were available for less than insane prices. On a long road trip, the last thing I'm concerned about is being "entertained" by my car. I just want to arrive in one piece, and not feel like the trip was a torture exercise.
As someone who literally pays money every month in an attempt to avoid ads, I've literally never been so entertained by one that I had to watch it twice in a row. Unbelievable work, I hope tux lets you keep the creative freedom because you're killing it.
2019 Mazda3 AWD Premium Sedan owner here. The Mazda3 is definitely a car you appreciate more the longer you have it. Mine turned 4 years old this year and it has done literally everything I've asked of it with only two failures I can think of. One was a dead battery, and the other was an engine light that came on but then went off agin a few days later without any service done. I'm running CorkSport coil-overs and 12mm wheel spacers all around. I have my ride height set to 1" lower all around and slightly stiffer in the rear. This of course makes most mid corner bumps and pucker moment, but on smooth roads, the car has tons of grip. The modifications also give the car a very aggressive and flush look. It's definitely a car that I look back at every time I get out of it. I also have a dealer installed Mazda branded roof rack to primarily carry my bikes, but I've mounted other things on there too. Overall, including the modifications, the car was less than $30,000. Not bad for a car with leather everywhere, Bose audio, heated seats and steering wheel, HUD, automatic high beams, automatic wipers, adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, reverse tilt mirrors, and AWD traction for the winter time.
13000 mile 2022 Turbo sedan. Like you said, the more you drive it, the more you like it. I’d add interior rattles to the list, but that’s about it. The best all round value in the low 30s.

Totally applies to my 2014 CRV. Do I miss my Audi Avant? Yes. Do I miss the costs? No. Fill ups and regular services and it does its job just fine.
I really appreciate your long term review of this car. I bought a 2021 Mazda 3 Turbo off of the original review. Jack is right about this car. I love the fact that I can get into this car, put on a podcast, and just relax while cruising to my destination. For longer road trips, I don't feel anywhere near as fatigued as I did driving my 2012 Mazda 3 2.5.
I have a 2012 2.0 with the Skyactive and it's a dreadful highway vehicle. I had to install apple carplay/AA radio so I could handle driving on the highway. Plus my body hurts after 2 hours of driving it. Also have the plastic in my car is either squeaking, falling apart, or just breaking. My rearview mirror is delaminating itself from the actual glass itself. Great 1st car, but stupid car market is terrible now.
I had the same feeling switching from a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer to the 2021 Mazda 3.
Dealership got my 3 Turbo in 2 weeks before I had to drive from Maryland to Miami, FL. Those miles just disappeared because of how smooth and quiet the drive is. My only gripe is that I would have loved an extra 2 or 3 gallons in the fuel tank.
i have the non turbo 2020 preffered sedan didnt need the extra power and the non turbo has more than enough passing power for the highway in the 2.5 na and i agree completely with this review also its just comfortable

Your videos on the launch of the 4th gen Mazda 3 helped me decide to buy one. I have 13k miles on my 2022 Mazda 3 sedan in 10 months of ownership. I share your same sentiments for the car. However, the version you have is getting out of the value range of this car. My car is a Carbon Edition with the FWD n/a 2.5L drivetrain. The MSRP was around $27.5k. For that price, you are getting the same interior and qualities of the vehicle without the power and AWD for over $10,000 less. I think this trim is a hell of a value. You are getting the full safety suite, leather interior, all LED lighting, Bose audio, sunroof, and no f-ing CVT. I never drove a turbo model, but I have owned a tuned Focus ST in the past and haven't once felt this car is underpowered. 186hp 186tq is perfectly adequate and has good fuel economy without the added complexity of a turbo. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.
Is there any specific reason why you picked carbon instead of premium?
@@uaChuk If memory serves me correctly, the only features you gained with a premium were the HUD, and premium adaptive lighting. You also had to pay an up charge to get a color I liked. It was going to end up being another $2500-ish and I didn’t feel the increase was worth it. Plus, the carbon edition was in stock at the dealer versus having to wait for a premium.
Premium gets you so much. Just compared in their site trims and specs... for 1200 you get signature lighting, paddle shifters, navigation, traffic sign recognition, HUD & headlamp steering as you said, and can option the same red interior. I can see someone getting the Carbon if they just wanted that color and Bose and don't care how their exterior accent lighting looks while driving (signature lighting makes this car look so good and expensive front and rear!). But now, 2024, no more Bose on Carbon... Interesting. I remember even Preferred had Bose back when these first came out. Glad you were able to get that and its metal speaker grills.

I’ve had my 2023 Mazda 3 turbo for 2/3 months and I’ve put 20k kms on it. Road trips and inclement weather conditions. Love the car. Drives great and wins most stop light races.

The factory tires are pretty awful. I replaced them immediately and added a sway bar to the rear and that made a world of difference.

For those wondering for aftermarket tunes for this car. There are two DRTuning has a Flash tune available for this car and it’s good. Also there another tune availability is Orange Virus Tune from a guy name Rafael he actually adds boost and another things to bring the car the power and torque the enjoyment you’ll get from a mazdaspeed car. I have the Orange Virus tune and it has been good one thing the guy is from the Philippines so the time zone will be some issue but he is super responsive and reliable to get a hold of.
DRTuning is Canada based I believe, and is definitely the safe tune (no boost added at all) but still helps massively. Some of the computers in this car behave really weirdly when tinkering and that tune really helps
@@Xaiux yeah I ran Daniel’s tune for four months and it’s been good. He’s in the works of tuning it for boost soon. I was just a little impatient and I reach out to Rafael to see if he started tuning these cars and come to find out he did. He even said that there are 10 guys here in the states that has his tunes.
@@misternordberg3675 he had an bad experience with the brz on the tuning deals. Also those were the early stages of tuning those cars. Now all the tuners got it all figured out and they are running great on their tunes. You can’t go to any tuner to tune you car now. Also it pays to wait for someone to work all the bugs out of their tunes to get everything straight out.
Aftermarket options are nice and all but what's the point. This thing has more than enough power in stock form. What's the end goal?

This car is amazing. I have a 2021 that I got w 4K miles on it. Love driving it every day. Never disappoints. Enjoyable at all speeds and in all weather.

Just go for the "turbo" trim since it starts at $32,450 and you get 99% of the options as the premium plus. Its definitely the one to go for and should be the one represented in price comparisons

Just bought my first “new” car and it’s a 2021 Mazda 3 hatchback with the NA 2.5 and the manual. You guys put me on this car. Thank you for the detail in your videos it does not go unappreciated.
The final thoughts are right on point. I bought a Premium NA AWD for 27k and don't miss the turbo at all. Just under 40,000 miles and it has been great. If you're somewhere warm you could probably do without the AWD and save even more.
Even in cold places, unless you live in mountains, FWD with good winter tires is more than capable.

I’m currently in college and my old trusty 2012 Acura TL started showing signs of retirement, so I started looking around and came across Mazda. After Mark’s original videos on this generation of Mazda3, I was convinced that these cars had some serious thought put into them and they were worth trying out. I bought a 2021 CX-3O Select AWD new for $26,000 and it’s great, I actually hustle the car regularly and it puts a smile on my face. I think the N/A cars are much better in terms of reliability than the turbo and I’ve never felt that it was underpowered (even coming from a J37 305hp Acura), great cars however they do have some flaws, but they’re worth dealing with
same i have a 2020 prefered mazda 3 sedan that 2.5 na never feels underpowered for when you need it got it cop for 25 out the door flat with 26k miles totally best car at that pricepoint
Nice final review. I recently purchased a CX-30 (very similar) and got to say it is one of the best vehicles in 50 years of driving that I have owned.
Great long term review. This is such a quirky car, but I love it for most of those reasons.
On our way back from a Chicago to LA trip in out turbo hatch and can confirm the torque and fuel economy is impressive, suspension wise, it's satisfyingly stout over terrible roads or pot holes which I think helps it from hurting itself, I've gone without snows and can say that traction hasn't been an issue and also impressive in snowy weather, if I was to upgrade anything maybe a stickier brake pad, the design is one of my favorite things about the car, but when I heard the bose sound in it we pulled the trigger on a lease for it, thanks guys for maintaining it at our facility during the long term test, safe travels always😊
I’ve owned the Mazda 3 Turbo Hatch for about 2.5 years now. Coming from a base 2012 civic. This vehicle feels more than sporty and luxurious. I’m sure compared to other cars it’s boring but I have enjoyed its driving dynamics. It’s not perfect but it handles well on corners which is my favorite thing to do in the car. I would recommend this car to everyone considering it.

I love my 21 turbo hatch. I bought it new and it isn't the premium plus so it was a bit cheaper than this tested one. It really does feel like a jack of all trades and is imo still very good looking.
I didn’t buy a 3, but my CX-5 purchase gave me lots of peace of mind after hearing SG’s take on it. Super refined but the low-down torque hustles it just fine. Zero issues & I’m 92k miles in.
Do you have the turbo version?
The turbo version of the Mazda 3 might not make a lot of sense to most people, but I think the 2.5L naturally aspirated version with AWD is a great buy. I got mine with the premium package for 28k. Not much back in 2019 or in the present is as nice with the same capabilities for that price. It’s not the fastest car in the world, but honestly, it’s got plenty of power for most people. It’s relaxing to drive, the sound system is pretty good, I can drive it year round with virtually no issues, it’s been very reliable, and it gets great fuel economy (around 40mpg highway).
What other cars are out there that you can buy new for 30k that offer as much as the Mazda 3?
I agree, only wish it had better city MPGs and slightly bigger backseat.
@shinn43 I've had to put people in the back seat, apologizing all the way to the car only for them to say they were fine back there. No trips longer than an hour but no complaints. I have the front seat pushed all the way back too. Anyone under 6 feet should be OK for most trips.
@@JaRW7 Definitely dependent on size of the driver and passengers. If only it had just a bit more leg space this would've been future proof. Surprisingly the CX30 isn't any different.
Touchpads take your eyes off the road like a cellphone. The Mazda systems is ultimately simple and effective. Its a great daily driver.
I have 2 Mazdas and I don’t even look at the touch pads, you memorize the positions within a few days. Assuming I understand what your comment says.
I bought a Mazda CX-30 base model based on your guys rec. For what I paid for it it's such a great ride! It's quiet, ergonomic, and easy to live with. It's very tactile and easy to drive like you'd expect. I actually like the base model alloys, tires are extremely cheap for 16s. All in all I'd highly recommend getting the CX-30 as AWD is just rolled in unlike the 3 and its about the same price at base. Only con I could mention maybe is the base engine is buzzy but it's responsive enough for my needs and gets 29mpg average in my driving.
As much as I like Mazda, I think this would sell better with standard rear end to compete with Golf etc. Especially on EU market.

The best value for enthusiasts who find the Mazda 3 Turbo too soft is to buy a low mileage, garaged, one owner MK7 GTI for $20-25K. You'll save $10-20K and have a very comfortable, quiet, 30+ mpg commuter that turns into an angry hot hatch when you want it to. The Mazda doesn't have that split personality for when you're in the mood.
Not much value when the off warranty maintenance and repair costs for the VW come in to play though. Great ride, but really hard to live with.

Honestly, TH is top quality, it's hard to beat them. The humour, production value, insights and them actually tracking cars is just unmatched on RUclips. SG are good, but they're a little on the boring side and the production quality isn't as good

Drove a 2021 Honda Accord 2.0t, 2024 Kia K5 GT, and a 2023 Mazda3 Turbo Premium yesterday.
The Mazda felt the bests by far while still offering features I was looking for in a car (great audio, fast speeds, comfortable seats, heated wheel, heated seat, simple interior, and looks amazing). Hoping to pick it up soon :)
I picked up a 2023 Turbo Sedan version 3 weeks ago and put 2000 miles on it. I drove it in severe rain, on some very twisty roads in the SC foothills, and 200 mile drives non stop. This is not a sports car but I will tell you what it is. It's a very composed car in hard cornering with the back end that rotates beautifully. Indifferent to wet conditions. Very comfortable and quiet on long trips. Plenty of get up and go between 1800 to 4000 rpms. Plus a simple well appointed interior with tech that is an ease to use. It reminds me of an inline 6 rear wheel drive from the early 2000s. Think BMW 5 or a Lexus IS 300. The brakes feel great progressive in feel but if you need to get on them they grab on real quick.
I have a 23 sedan 2.5T as well. A rear sway bar and better tires makes a world of difference.
I actually think I would love this car. In-between y’alls last update and now I got a Toyota Camry rental and realized something… I don’t need much to be happy. With just a set of paddle shifters and a tad more power than my actual car I was having a blast. I get caught up sometimes in speculating an enthusiast car to fit my needs, but its tweaks and touch ups in reality to provide a vehicle that can serve satisfying and dependable on the everyday.
Combined with its beauty, the personal-ness of the car, and muscle, I think this is moreso what I’m looking for! Couldn’t buy it new…cause I’m poor, and I wonder if the NA manual of this would be more accurate to what I’d want (always anxious about whether speed is delivered), but even so, with a car like that? I may not ever be in want. Even less so when I saw off the muffler 😂
I think one thing you may be overlooking is that the humble Toyota Camry these days is a pretty good car.
I had one of these (destroyed in a flood, otherwise I'd still have it) and the one thing it had to distinguish it from the impression in your review is 310 ft-lb of torque. It just jumped so fast from a low speed to a moderate speed compared to economy cars (or to my Acura Integra) that it felt special (to me). Not saying it outperformed a true sports car in that situation, but it was much quicker than other cars in its class.

Test drove. So many disappointments. The torsion beam was horrible. The auto trans is 2 gears short. Cruise control is plus minus 5 mph on rolling terrain. Wanted to love it but no just no.

I bought a 2020 Mazda 3 on y’all’s recommendation (of course the turbo was introduced in 21) and eyed the turbo constantly after release. It’s really just the price that got me, a turbo CX50 was only 2K more so I ended up going with that and I’m loving it.
They’re great cars until you do a 30k carbon cleaning on one. Oh boy…

For 60k+ miles, your mechanic is going to LOVE YOU.
Mazdas are great cars and fun to drive, but long term maintenance costs due to DI is going to dull that luster every time anything under the hood needs to be moved around.
The carbon cleaning is routine to any DI engine without accessory port injection, but the turbo mechanicals add so much more work that require extra elbows.

Just bought a 2024 3 Hatch Preferred a couple of days ago and this series of reviews (as well as the 2019 video) really sold me on the car. First time buying new and im loving it.
Coming from a 2006 Acura TSX, it feels like I've been living in the stone age with all the tech I have now. I really love the Snowflake White Pearl Mica paint, it contrasts beautifully with all of the black accents around the car, and the factory tint makes it pop even more. Looking forward to driving this thing for many many years to come.
I wish they would build a MazdaSpeed version of this car. With IRS,a six speed manual and like 290-330 HP. This bodystyle deserves an enthusiast version.

I have this car too as a company lease car, but the EU SkyActiv-X version with a supercharger (for efficiency, not max boost), 186hp and FWD (no AWD versions where I live)
I've driven 31000km with it in the past 6 months (that's 19,375 freedom units).
1. Yes, it's a very comfortable car. Very comfy for the long roadtrips
2. Yes, stuff rattles. My dashboard glovebox absolutely loves to rattle. Also the passenger doortrim has something loose in it.
3. The audio system (Bose) is very nice, although a bit bass-heavy. Sadly there is Bose junk available (Centerpoint and stuff), and no EQ. So it will always be bass-heavy, even if you turn it down.
4. I absolutely LOVEEE how it doesn't have a single touchscreen. Every button you touch is very sturdy and feels nice. Big plus.
5. I love the fact you can make the 'Adaptive Cruise Control' dumb again with disableing the 'adaptive' part of the system. I use it all the time. Sadly it's not a persistant 'turn off' feature. Everytime you restart the car, you need to disable this. That is basicly the first thing I do when I start the car.
6. I like how it drives. Not too bouncy, not too stiff. Also overal handeling is good. I'm no car reviewer, but I have a lot of kilometers in this car.
7. No Wireless Android Auto function, so I have bought an "AAWireless Dongle" for that. Why the dongle? Because my phone straightup refuses to connect with the headunit, so the cable won't work. This is a phone issue, not a car issue. This headunit works with every other phone, except my phone (OnePlus 9, do a short Google search on Android Auto issues.. You'll see..)
8. Sadly there are no mounting points in the back for cargo. So you'll have to secure your cargo with stuffing other things next to it.
9. Leg- and headroom in the back is abysmal. I got a few tall friends (around the 1,75m area) and they don't really enjoy the backseat.
10. Can't comment on fuel economy. Since it's my business lease car, I have a business fuelcard. I fill it up when it's empty and I pay €0 for it.
11. I don't like how the other 3 doors are staying locked if you have the car running and you step out of a moment. Very annoying, and can't seem to disable it.
12. I absolutely HATE the 'automatic emergency brake', because even on the lowest setting, it's a bit too sensitive. I'd rather have a car without those things, because I had it scare the living shit out of me multiple times, without proper reason. I have eyes, I can see when somebody is braking for a turn he's taking. I don't want to brake too much for his turn..
13. I drive a manual (I don't like automatic transmissions at all), and the bonus you'll get, is the 'at factory default' shortshifter. Feels nice!
14. Love the way the infotainment is navigated. Love the joystick in the middle, and all the buttons. Very tactile. I wish every car had this, and this good of an implementation.
15. The nose of the car.. Oh.. I absolutely love it!
That was my take on this amazing car. I can't drive it anymore soon, because I'm switching jobs and the car stays at the current job. But I have another Japanese car in the pipeline. My very own, 2002 Mitsubishi Galant station with a N/A V6 and a manual (yes, the on in my profile picture) :D
I think the extra money for the turbo is warranted. I drove a NA cx5 and previously a 6 and the motor was ok but not great for New England i95 traffic. The turbo in my wife's cx9 makes it soo much better. Just wish the 3 was bigger on the inside for my young family. If you think about it, the extra money on the turbo is offset by the lower running costs so why not splurge for it?!

I have driven my Mazda 3 Turbo Premium for 24k miles now. Everything is great except painful fact that a lot of plastic parts are rattling. They really take the luxury feeling away when you have such a quiet cabin but hear the internal parts rattling on the highway. However, in this price range, I cannot find anything better. It is an elegant car for daily driving.
I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on a tuned Turbo 3. The suspension + power mods on my '23 really woke the car up and is such an enjoyable (sporty) experience whether I'm going to work, cruising on the highway, or hitting the twisties.
What kind of tune did you do and suspension mods ?
I have this car, its reliable and plenty fast. However, It leaves me wanting more in the driving dynamics, I have considered trading up for an Elantra N for pure driving fun. But you cannot have it both ways, this is a nicer car and is likely more reliable.

Cheaper by far than the Integra. More powerful too with AWD. I'll take it over a souped up Civic.
at that price these compete with a top trim Integra, which while very similar to the Civic, feels more luxurious than this and it's much bigger and actually has a manual

I like the mazda3 a lot but a mid level prefered for well under 30k seems to be a better car to get. Why have the turbo when the chassis, brakes, steering, and transmission can't keep up? My friend has a daily driver AWD Premium as his work vehicle and he puts 30k miles a year on it, no need for passenger space as nobody's in the car and needs AWD to drive though WV back roads in the winter. Sounds great for that purpose.
@@mezzb I mean, per Savagegeese's initial review of this car, they said the brakes weren't up to the task. They discuss in this video that Dave Coleman and people at mazda north america wanted this car to be tuned to be more of a hot hatch with better suspension. That's what I mean when the suspension, and brakes don't keep up with the turbo

I have this car, except the red interior. It’s everything that Jack mentions - a capable comfortable commuter. And I use it exactly like he says. My work commute is 35 miles one way that takes 45- 60 minutes depending on metro traffic.
I drove the NA manual version and probably would have been ok with that if I had not also test driven this.
I see it as a plus- in 3 years of driving this, I have maybe seen less than a handful of other turbo hatchbacks. It’s rare compared to accords, Camrys, 3 series, a series, pickups, cuvs etc.
I just picked up a 2023 Mazda 3 Turbo Premium Plus Hatch a couple of weeks ago as a new daily and it's perfect for what I need. I was looking for something that would be comfortable for day-to-day use, that had the creature comforts I wanted in a daily, and that also had a bit of performance to it. It is only my wife and I, so we don't need a large vehicle (and we already have a Ridgeline if we need hauling capabilities), and it needed to be an automatic so that my wife could drive it if needed. I still have a fun weekend car, with a manual transmission, so I have the enthusiast driving covered, and I feel like the Mazda was exactly what I was looking for

Hi guys, thank you for the Mazda 3 series of videos, they are really informative.
I ended up buying the 3 GT Sport (the highest trim) here in Canada and overall I like the car.
I should also say that it is significantly cheaper in Canada for some reason - 25% or so less to be exact. The top trim (without aero though) cost CAD 39k - much less than USD 38k you mentioned. I'm almost certain I wouldn't have bought it for CAD 52k, no way.
I've driven 5000 km so far and overall it's a great car, drives really well, it's powerful, and I don't have an issue with the torsion beam - although I must say I don't have a lot of experience with cars overall 🙂 I drove 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer (98 hp) and 2009 Audi A4 (120 hp), and a bunch of rental cars over the years, so not a huge experience, especially with modern cars.
So Mazda feels like a great car to me - much better than the new Civic I test drove. Civic is louder when accelerating and the interior is just too basic. It also costs the same in the top trim without having many of Mazda's key features like the AWD, powerful engine, HUD, 360 cameras etc.
The only major problem I have so far with the Mazda 3 is rattles and squeaks. Sometimes it gets really bad and it's very annoying. I am planning to have this looked at by the dealer very soon and I'm hoping they will resolve it (or it will resolve itself as you mentioned).
It is a problem reported by many other owners online, so it seems to me it's a design flaw of some kind 😒
There are squeaks in the central console when pushed either side - this seems to be the easiest to fix and apparently there's a TSB to fix that problem.
Buzzing sound coming from the driver's side door tweeter speaker - very annoying and appears on rough roads that cause micro vibrations.
Rattles from the infotainment display when driving over larger bumps.
The infamous rattle coming from the glove box / passenger airbag - it's the least apparent one but when you notice it you can't go back. This one is also fixable.
My previous cars did not have this, especially the Audi, which is a 15 year old design by now, so Mazda's claim of a luxury car is questionable.
I think 18 inch wheels have a lot to do with those rattles, but overall the Mazda 3 doesn't feel as tightly built as I expected - at least from the interior feel perspective.
I'm not sure how current generation A3 / A-Class / 1 series feel though.

I bought a AWD drive Mazda3 sedan two years ago and really don't see the need for the extra power from the turbo. The price point was about the same as the Sport Touring Civic and that car does not have all wheel drive. The Mazda3 also feels more expensive than the Civic, has a design that will age better, handles equally well, and does not leave me forced to take a CVT and a turbo. The down sides have been the in-town fuel economy, small fuel tank for long trips and fairly fragile wheels when you nick a curb. I was also fortunate to get a model that was built in Japan versus Mexico.
