2002 Lexus ES300 - How to Reset the VSC Traction off Lights
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 фев 2025
- After battery is disconnected or replaced in a 2002 Lexus ES300, you will have these dash lights on as soon as you drive the vehicle.
Warning: Before you count the pins pay attention to the position and shape of the OBD2 harness there is wider side and in some vehicles it can be flipped upside down, this way you don't pick the wrong pin.
Now this reset will work if there is no issue with the abs, steering angle sensor, and no check engine light issues, if there is any other issue then that other issue has to be fixed first. Once all other issues are resolved (if there is one that exists) if not then you can reset the VSC light.
This method might also work with other Toyota or Lexus year models, but keep in mind you might need to cross different pins on the DLC other than the one in this video, make sure you don't cross the wrong pin and this may cause damage to other modules. Reminder this was done to this vehicle which was a 2002 Lexus es300.

To the gentleman who created this video...Thank you! I have a 2002 ES300 and by watching your video and following the steps that you gave, I was able to remove the VSE and TRAC Off lights on my dash. I used one paper clip with one end in #4 and the other in #14. Many thanks for your excellent and easy to understand RUclips video. October 17, 2024
Glad the video was helpful, thanks for the feedback!
I know your post is like 2 years ago but it’s June 2023 and I just fixed the vsc lights using your step by step guides!! Thank you !!
You welcome! Glad my video was helpful 👍
How did you disconnect the obd to get a better angle? I'm to big to be getting under the dash lol
I recently had my ignition coil replaced and when leaving the independent garage, these lights came on. The mechanic inserted his SnapOn analyzer and cleared the codes. I started the car and lights were off. As soon as I turned the wheel, they were back on. I then showed the mechanic your wonderful video and he followed the instructions (make sure steering wheel is straight as shown in video). Problem fixed and saved me big bucks going to a Lexus Stealer .
It worked on my 2003 Lexus ES300. Thank you so much. The VSC warning light irritated me for so long but thanks to you. It is cleared out.
Glad it helped
Just wanted to say thanks for this video. After replacing the TPS, these lights were on. This procedure didn't work for me at first. I completely disconnected the battery to start fresh. I tried it again and it worked. Thank you!
My pleasure!
Used this video to fix this exact issue with my 2003 Lexus ES300. Just wanted to say thank you for making the video and helping others, it's appreciated.
I am glad my video was helpful, You are very welcome!
Straight forward video repair. I believe this would work for this generation of es300. Worked as instructed. Saved me alot of headache.
Glad it worked for you, Thank you
@@carserviceproI reset the sim with paper clip as you showed in the video now I want to ask if it will come back VSCVSC late
I agree with the previous post- some videos are timeless. It work 2-years ago and again this morning.
Thank you!😊
You're welcome!
Thank you for this. It worked for my 2003 ES 300. The Check Engine light came on along with these two lit up and after replacing the Camshaft Position Sensor Bank 2 with a Lexus part to resolve the P0345 check engine light code, the VSC and TRAC OFF came back on every time I moved the car until I performed your steps.
You welcome! Glad to hear my video was helpful.
Worked on my 02 Lexus es300, thanks for posting this easy to follow video.
Thanks. I had this problem. Your solution worked like a charm👍All my annoying warning lights are now off, incl the check engine light.
thank you!!!
I was starting to go crazy trying to figure this out on my dads car, you not only saved me time, but my mind-
Glad my video saved you time and money 👍
tried it today, it worked like a charm. thanks bro. both trac & vsc gone.
Perfect 👍
Thanks! Was looking for a specific fix for this problem. Must be careful so this video was perfect fix for my 2002 Lexus ES300.

My pleasure, Glad this video was helpful!
I changed all my light bulbs in the back both sides brake lights, the next day came out and the VSC and trac off lights came on, first I took off battery posts, waited for about 5 minutes put them back on lights still on, I then erased the codes with my code reader, went off , but came back on, so I saw your video, it fixed my problems thank you 2003 Lexus Es 300
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's great to hear that the video helped you resolve the issue with your Lexus ES 300. Sometimes, it's the simplest fixes that make all the difference. Safe driving!
Very useful video, I watched many others and none of them helped. however this was exactly the problem with my Camry thank you
You're welcome!
Thank you . This was the only video on here that worked for my car . Cheers mate
This fix with pins 4 and 14 worked on my 2005 SC430.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I couldn't figure out how to turn off those lights.
Hi man i just used your guidance to fix the issues I salut you thx
You bet 👍
Thanks-Works perfect-Appreciate you sharing your knowledge to help the rest of us!

I have a 02 ES300 I fixed it using a "paper clip" & felt like MacGyver 😆 🤣. You the man homey! 🫡💯
👍
Wow! That worked! I'm impressed! How did you figure that out? I've changed the battery on my 2003 Lexus ES300 many times and I've never gotten this problem(??). This problem was induced when I used a Foxwell NT510 Elite diagnostic tool to check on a P0441 Evap purge code I've been dealing with. I couldn't clear the TRAC OFF/VSC error with the diagnostic tool, so this fix was a real help. Will subscribe. Thanks!
Thanks. This worked on my 2002 ES300 with no problem.
Glad it did, Thanks
Thank you sir, worked on my 03 camry v6 xle.
Glad it did! 👍
A fine discovery,well done Sir

Worked on my Lexus ES300. 2002 model. Thank you.
It is still working. Thanks.
👍
Worked perfect! Thanks!
👍
Thank you. I just fix it. I had to position the obdII connector the same way you did. Otherwise it upside down when it is still connected to the holder.
Glad it helped!
Worked immediately, thanks!

Your video was instrumental in getting my 02 Camry 3.0L VSC and Trac steady light off. Other videos talked about using a paper clip on the 4 and 13 ODB, but I need something else. Nonetheless, as soon as I scanned my vehicle with the ODBII scanner, the same lights came right back. I have to reset it all the time now. I wish there was a definite solution to this problem.
If those lights keep coming back on, there is definitely an issue with the system. Remember, resetting the light doesn't mean you've fixed the problem; it means there was an issue that caused the light to warn you about something. This issue can be intermittent, like disconnecting the vehicle battery. If the lights don't come back on after resetting, the module is indicating that it doesn't currently detect a problem. However, if the lights keep returning, it means there's an ongoing issue. This is similar to resetting your check engine light with an OBD scanner, only to have it come back on after a few minutes or days. Regular OBD scanners cannot diagnose in-depth ABS or traction control issues; you need an advanced scanner for that. You may need to take your car to a qualified technician for a proper diagnosis. Lastly, make sure you pay attention to the count and shape of the pins on the OBD harness to locate pins 4 and 14. Good luck!
thank u bro, i will try that tomorrow on my car.
Hope it will work for you!
Thank you so much it worked on My car es300 2003
Thank you 😂
Thank you! Huge help!!!!
You welcome!
Worked with 2003 Lexus es300
Thank you Sir
for your info.

You welcome!
Worked well 🎉🎉. But does the shorting merely turn off the lights or it actually turns on the traction control nd vsc?
It work perfectly. Thanks
Glad it helped
Thank you so much for this video I appreciate you ❤
My pleasure!
Worked on my sons 2003 Toyota Highlander but used pins 4 and 14. Got rid of VSC light. Our obd2 port was upside down from what you show.
Thanks for the info. Works with an 03 RX300 also. Ευχαριστώ
Glad it worked for you as well!
Great video. Will this work on 99-00 GS 300?
Thanks for the feedback, it is been awhile since I have made this video, others commented that they Used my video to rest different years and it was successful, so it is up to you if you want to try it? Thanks
It's work lexus es300 2002 thank you
You welcome!
What is the tool that you used to connect them called ?
Thank you buddy!
No problem 👍
Hi I benefited from the video, but I want to ask
Is this working the right way or fixing error with errors Is this a risk to the system??
Any time you disconnect the battery on those vehicles the computer loses the steering angle sensor Zero point, with this being said this Zero point is needed for the ABS module and the VSC Module "Vehicle Stability Control" in order to function properly and that is why you need to keep the steering wheel in straight position and the front wheels straight and this mean approximately zero point before reset, every time you turn the steering wheel left or right the zero degree will change to negative or positive reading, so this video you show you how to reset it, on newer cars this can be done with scanner, if you would of connected a scanner to this vehicle before the reset and watch live data for SAS you will notice the steering wheel straight and front wheels are straight but the SAS reading far away from ZERO and the computer sees this and trigger fault in the system as you had, As long as these warning lights go on when you turn the ignition on engine off and they turn off once the car starts and stay off this mean the system is functioning well and no error present,,,,Think of it like your oil reminder and reset!
Any idea on a 1999 ES 300??
Do this work for 2001 also ???
Thank you for sharing, will this work for 1999 Lexus ES300? Could not find the port information.
It is been awhile since I did this video, l am not sure if it will work! Thanks
@@carservicepro Thank you for replying.
Very good
Worked on an 02 camry today
Great! 👍
Which pins do i use for a 2005 lexus rx330??
Not sure why all the videos I'm seeing are so cautious about pinouts. OBD2 is a standard -- which means the pinout is identical for all compliant vehicles. This is why you can grab any scan tool off the shelf. (If your car is older, it may be the original OBD spec -- pinout might differ then?)
I didn't feel like dicking around, ruining a perfectly good paper clip, so, since I happened to have a scan tool, I just connected it and sent an instruction to ERASE CODES. Seems to have worked.
To be clear, I found no codes formally set, but it appears to have worked, nonetheless.
I am glad it worked for you! DLC connector in older cars has less wires because less Modules on the vehicle, today's cars may have 25 or more modules required in depth access and more network among them, also keep in mind most of the scanners on the market have some limitations of what they can do also vehicles manufacturers may limit those scanner access to vehicle system and etc, however the scanner usually is capable of identifying these wires, CAN, Bat+ and Ground are common positioned on all.
@@carservicepro Gotcha, thanks. Giving the matter some thought, it makes sense to CYA, when suggesting the paper clip solution, given the greater risk of the procedure.
@@EricAdamsonMI a paper clip works just the same just did it today...
Thank you sir its works.
Great! You welcome
I cant find which # is for Lexus RX330 is it #4 & 14 also?
GRACIAS TOTALES !!!!
You welcome!
Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You welcome!
THANK YOU
you welcome!
i have Lexus SC430 , 2003. have the same problem. Mine is VSC light and VSC OFF lights turn on as soon as I move the car. no engine light though , no code ...you think the same method helps?
Do you know how to fix it if the VSC, trac off, brake and abs light come on?
Are you asking me to bring your car to my shop to fix it?
شكرا على المعلومه
You welcome 👍
Do you know the terminals for a 2002 LS430? Thank you.
thank you it worked!
Great!
What if you have not replaced the battery or any other components and both lights, the Trac off and VSC, come on? I pressed the trac off button and nothing happens, checked the tires pressure and nothing happened.Any suggestions before I take it over to the mechanic? Thank you in advance
When this light set on it is own this means there is something wrong with the system and you need advanced scan tool to get the codes first and you start from there, keep in mind on some vehicles if you get check engine light you will get other lights on the dashboard like the ones you have now and in many cases if you fix the check engine light first those other lights will reset automatically and this is common on Honda's vehicles, the reason pressing the button doesn't work because the traction control is disabled, so first step get the codes through the obd, good luck!
Do you know if this will work on a 2003 Toyota Avalon?
If you look in the comments there are others posted that they have applied the same method for other years, make and models and it did work, So it is totally up to you to try it!
My ABS and Brake light came on solid one morning. Disconnected battery for 10 minutes, all 3 ABS fuses good. Under normal operations, my VSC light has never come on when first starting. I tried this method and it doesn't work. Next I'll have to check each wheel sensor. Any ideas? I can't seem to find anything more helpful on the internet. The ABS is not working. 2002 ES300.
Make sure you pay attention to the shape of the dlc or OBD2 port, sometimes flipped upside down, you need to make sure the pin numbers sequence from 1-16 this way you connect the right ones, this reset as you can see was successful for thousands of people, if it didn't work you probably have some issue needed further diagnostics with advanced scanner! Good luck
@@carservicepro Thank you. That wasn't it. I've ordered a Creader Professional Elite scanner. Mine wasn't advanced enough.
Thanks buddy
Happy to help
Wait what setting is the multimeter set too
You don't need multimeter to do this reset!
Will this work on a 2008 Lexus LS 460
Please what of the lexus es 330 2005
I think the same es 300
i got vac track lights on after i had disconnected maf sensor on running engine, now they(lights are always on)
the only unclear moment: steering wheel center or actual wheels centered? my steering wheel a bit to the left when wheels are straight
i did as in video and lights are gone. i ve put steerng wheel straight
You can use a paper clip?
I did.
Hello, would this work on a 2004 es330?
Hi, I usually use scanner on newer models, I have not try it manually, it is up to you if you want to try it! thanks
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Will this work on a 2003 Lexus es300 sir? I just want to make sure that I won't blow anything up. I appreciate your help sir. Take care always.
Hello Cesar, I really can't say if it works or not, this is totally up to you to try, I did this on many cars and it was successful, in my video I was just showing how I do it on this specific make, year and model. others comments here i see successful rest on different years or models, keep in mind my video's are for educational and entertainment purposes only, I can't give you advice unless the car in front of me and anything you read or watch is for educational and entertainment purposes only, thanks.
Thanks for the quick response unfortunately it didn't work on my car. Time to take it to the shop.
It worked on my ES300 Lexus.
So what caused this in the first place? Does no good to keep resetting warning lights without addressing the cause
Most of vehicles don't have this issue because they have self calibration or they don't change certain stored value after you disconnect the battery, in this video I talked about Lexus common issue; which is every time the battery gets replaced or disconnected the SAS Zero point gets lost or changed away from zero and for this reason the warning light turns on, So the SAS signal is important to various module in the vehicle like the ABS system and (VSC, ESP, ESC or TCS) and more. To simplify it The VSC Module needs to know if the front wheels are in straight position "Steering Wheel straight" and the Steering angle sensor reading zero degrees at this point! if this was not met the VSC warning light will turn on "keep in mind I am assuming there is no issue with the VSC system except calibration" because if there is an issue the light will come back on, So if this is the case you need to use a scanner to read the VSC module stored codes and you need to fix the issue first, At the professional level we do have expensive scanners capable of accessing every module in the vehicle and diagnose and reset these kind of codes " I am not talking about simple OBD scanner here", if the light stays on My advice is to take your vehicle to a professional mechanic and let them diagnose it, I hope I was able to explain as much as I can, Thanks
Unfortunately i tried it it went into the calibration mode but still i got the dash light again after starting the engine
Thanks
I am sorry didn't work, however if you follow the instructions carefully as explained in the video and the vehicle is same year make and model it should work, the only time it won't work if you have existing issue in the system that needed to be fixed first, and then you do the calibration, good luck!
@@carservicepro Thanks for the reply, it’s actually the same make year and model. I m diagnosed the the car and it showed that it need VVT-i sensor didn’t record the code but i think thats the issue.
Thank you again
What’s that tool called
Thin Paper clip will work
I see all the comments about how this worked for them but I tried on my 2003 ES300 with no luck. Everything happened as instructed but when I start the car, the light never goes away
This reset procedure should function properly if all associated components are operational and if the steps were meticulously followed as described. However, if the reset did not take effect, it indicates that the related module is detecting a malfunction within the system. This could be attributed to various factors such as the steering angle sensor, ABS sensor, speed sensor, and others. In such instances, additional diagnostic procedures are required to address the underlying issue before attempting the reset or code clearing. Similar to the check engine light, merely clearing the code without resolving the root problem may result in its recurrence.
does this will work for Toyota also ?
Toyota and Lexus have a lot in common, however I can't say if it will work or not, we usually use Vin specific when the car here at our facility and apply repair procedure accordingly, this reset works on multiple years and models however newer vehicle can be easier reset with scanner!
@@carservicepro thanks Mate
Will this wipe out the emissions history? It won't pass smog if it does
L H
Even if it does you would just need to drive 50 miles so there is driving history in the computer again
Do you kno what the last indicator means? On the right side of the check engine light?
Tail lights issue!
