What she did say was that after she finished the 6th album and tour she was contracted for she was ready to walk away.

Thank You my Lady❤. At this moment, where video is taken 2005 , Tarja had started singing studies 1996 in Kuopio Finland. 2001-2003 She studied in Karlsruhe Germany as Classical singing Major. After Nightwish, She has studied for years with private lessons. As You said, Tarja is 100% Ladylike at stage. Known Her and "the Boy's", since they started. Sleeping Sun, Wishmaster. Well actually Tarja started her singing studies, in a special school for it, in Savonlinnan taidelukio (Savonlinna highschool of arts) 1993 - 1995.

Tarja's facial emotional contortions are legendary, particularly in her early, power metal years...in the wishes to eternity concert
l love Tarja ❤ She is an incredible singer and a sweet person. One of the most famous live Nightwish performances with her is "The Phantom of the Opera", recorded on the dvd "End of an Era", the same that you just watched. There is an unofficial video with more than 70 milion views, but recently the band decided to release one on RUclips with better quality. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/tL25rbnvM4o/видео.html. Fun fact: Tarja was sick during this concert and was advised by doctors not to sing. She had flue or something in her throat.

Great job Valerie. Tarja is very special. Classic and such a unique vocal sound for a metal band. Some of Tarja's great songs are "The Siren, Wishmaster, Sleeping Sun, Phantom of the Opera, and of course Walking in the Air". Tarja does do some head banging, but in a much less aggressive style. Wonderfully done my friend.

in the " end of era" concert Tarja executes a multitude of superb operatic belts in perfect vibratos, such as planet hell, dark chest of wonders, siren, slaying the dreamer etc..and in "from wishes to eternity"concert
Slaying the dreamer is actually poor vocals-wise for Tarja. It's mostly spoken lyrics for her, the operatic part is in the staccato, but that's it.

Each of those performances will show you why Tarja became a pioneer of the genre today known as "Symphonic metal" - although she was not the first like someone already pointed out, she is the one who made it a hit and always the one every singer gets compared to and mentioned as one of their inspirations. 15 years after Nightwish she is still a headliner worthy of her own name and does everything from metal concerts to full scale classical with orchestra and choir, to down-scaled Christmas concerts.
Check out "Passion and the Opera " live by Tarja! It's amazing. Tarja also sings Ave Maria flawlessly so it's worth checking out, too! There are countless live performances of her singing that song here on RUclips. She has also composed her own, hauntingly beautiful version of Ave Maria.

One can really play ANYTHING from that concert and it is worth it.
Watch "Slaying the Dreamer", from the same End of an Era concert. Tarja does her style of headbanging, not to mention she completely owned the song.
Also, "the Siren", "Phantom of the Opera", and "Sleeping Sun", all from the same concert. You'll be glad you did!

Thanks a lot! I'm looking forward to seeing your reactions to Tarja's versions of songs. I still love her as a Nightwish vocalist and I will continue to. That was the start for me and Tarja's voice gave me so many emotions and a lot of my memories are connected to early Nighwish masterpieces like Wishmaster or Dead Boy's Poem.

This dark soprano voice reminds me of why I fell in love with Nightwish. I miss those times. I had the honor to listen to her live in concert with Nightwish, a moment I will never forget. Floor is good too.

But she is not using her fully operatic voice in Nightwish. Sure, she can go full opera when needed, and you really hear the difference. But especially in her Nightwish time, she always said, that she is not even an opera singer, but classically trained.

You're right. She is classically trained to seeing Eli and music. There's different types of classical music that people aren't aware of. Lead usually needs just a piano and a very powerful voice that can fit an entire hall. Opera, needs a voice that I can overpower the orchestra as well as fill the entire hom you're right. Well, not quite FULL opera though. I think Stargazers is the most operatic song they had and yeah that's very operatic. Also 10the Man Down I watched a live performance, that was quite operatic too. Otherwise, she does have that operatic technique, the vibrato and legato, but outside the staccatos she doesn't much sing with that full open mouth and opera volume from the chest. Like in Nemo for example not at all. And this Nemo is much more operatic than the album version. Edit: about Nemo, actually I meant to say "than the music video version". Because I seldom listen Once the album, and remember much better the music video.
Therion were the originals who started this whole operatic metal thing. Nightwish came along a few years later and really made it popular. Invocation of Naamah is still one of my favorites even though we have had so much amazing music since 1996

You need to listen to the songs Slaying the dreamer and The siren from this concert, Tarja also knows how to experiment with her voice. I also recommend Tarja's solo work, in her solo career she is completely different, sings and experiments with different styles.
P.S. Tarja received several types of education in Chamber music, not opera. She studied at the Sibelius Academy in her homeland in Finland and the Karlsruhe University of Music in Germany.
I loved your reaction! I think Tarja is fabulous! she has a lot of feeling and has a lot of beautiful songs with nigthwish: the siren, passion and the opera (the version of her solo career because it is remastered), sleeping sun, ghost love Score etc. Still, I would like you to see songs from her solo career. It is difficult to choose only one song: victim of ritual, innocence, supremacy, in for a kill, serene, anteroom of death, etc etc.

@@melicriszoe1 I'm right there with you, people request ad infinitum the same songs. Well, maybe the current reaction channel person has not seen that one yet. But people who watch reaction videos sure have. None of Tarja's solo career songs are yet reacted too many times, but there's this very narrow few people always suggest, and there's a few hundred good enough quality videos in youtube one could suggest.
I do think that Nemo is Tarja's best song. It suits her so much.

If you're working through all three singers and would like something rather different then try Nightwish with Annette singing Slow Love Slow at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in 2012. As many commentators have said before, Tuomas knows how to write music to get the best from the singer and I love the two Annette albums.
She was goth-girls' idol, and you can see why. But not all lady-like! You haven't seen enough Tarja, especially her solo career: she does headbang (did in NW too), not every song but it's not rare either, she wears rock leather outfits (wore in NW too) and goes wild on the stage. In Tuomas' songs he has a lot of this duality, a good and innocent person and a dark seducer: I think they wanted to give to NW fans an image kind of an angel (which was Tarja's pseudonyme in the band too).

Hi Valerie, I agree that Tarja is very much the lady, however she can headbang with the best. There are live videos of
Nightwish showing Tarja in a sexy black dress headbanging with gusto, however she still keeps her elegance. Floor could
turn up on stage riding a Harley chopper and the crowd would love it, but if Tarja showed up on stage on a white horse
riding side saddle it would suit her and the crowd would love that. I also agree with you that all three female singers,
Tarja, Annette, and Floor, are great and have their own style.

I also don't like to judge singers in terms of who is better than someone else - I prefer to talk in the language of whose singing I prefer - that way it makes it clear I'm not making some sort of an objective argument over the relative quality of singers, but rather expressing what I enjoy best.
I mostly prefer Floor in Nightwish songs, but "Nemo" is Tarja all the way!

Did you know that the day after this concert(aptly-named "End Of An Era")Tarja was voted out of the band?
actually, they have decided that she no longer fit their bill when she refused to put her vocal and overall health in jeopardy by embarking on long , exhaustive tours....9 months prior to the separation the decision was made and not one bothered to afford her that courtesy

I also think comparing is something odd in music. Who's the best is something that belongs to sports or some place where you can measure the results. But music is about emotions, and tastes - so who is the best there is really so subjective.

The group Therion is considered the first symphonic metal band which formed in 1987. Toumas of Nightwish has said that Therion was a huge influence on him . Check out Therion " Sitra Ahra " , " Birth of Venus Illegitima " , or " Rise of Sodam and Gomorrah " .

I appriciate both singers with a slight preference for Floor, but Sleeping Sun belongs to Tarja. Please react to Sleeping Sun.
Other songs belong to Tarja as well: Slaying the Dreamer, the Siren, Phantom of the Opera, among others. No one else makes them as strong and full and beautiful as she does.
I understand that reaction channel people go to the most viewed videos. But Tarja had a flu in that concert and her vocals and performance did suffer of it. There are other videos nowadays with about as good quality, and definately better vocal quality for her. For example Download Festival 2005 would have been a better choise. Or Taubertal Festival 2005.
Tarja was sick with the flu during this concert. yet, still sounded like that.
Hi Valerie. Tarja has a whole album of just Ave Maria and I like the one by Paolo. I also like her singing it in Latin at the beginning. Tarja is funny I be watched some of her Instagrams. I like Tarja but sometimes her English isn't so clear. I like Tarja and Floor singing Dead Boy's Poem. There is a song called Over the Hills and Far away that they do a duet . It's not very good audio but they both try to help each other with the mike volumes. Sleeping Sun is goo with both of the . Tarja's solo are cool. Walking in the air with Nightwish and then with an orchestra. I like I Walk Alone by Tarja. Man of Constant Sorrow is awesome and so is Ring of Fire with Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix. Tarja still rocks.

Tuomas kicked her out of the band... the rest of the band and she didn't get along in the end.
she quit in 2003 and they convinced her to stay to save the glee..then they betrayed her loyalty and got kicked in the teeth....it will never be the same without her in their name..now they are a folk band that tries to sound good but they can not find the right hook..dragging Floor down with them...soon she'll be headlining the Dutch pop emblem....
she did her best to get along but she was cutting into their dreams of greater profits at her expense ..so they liberated her
She quit 2003? What am I missing? I know she said the band had difficultires several years before the final break up, and Marcelo told they were about to break during the Wishmater tour already.

Nightwish has (had) 4 Lead-Vocalists:
1996 - 2005 Tarja Turunen
from 2001 - present Marco Hietala
2007 - 2012 Anette Olzon
from 2013 - present Floor Jansen
Tuomas Holopainen (in the beginning) and Marco are surely describable as Male-Voices, but in my opinion, Marco is also a Lead-Vocalist.
More than 20 years ago Tarja won my heart. There are LOTS of great songs from that time. Some of my favourites:
Over the hills and far away (a Gary Moore Cover me thinks)
Sleeping sun (slow and operatic)
Wish I had an Angel (heavy with great Marco-Vocals)
