Movie fans have known of him for a while, due to his scoring of several films by Hayao Miyazaki and Takeshi Kitano. His non-movie pieces like this one are pretty obscure, but he has a pretty large fanbase. Watch his Budokan concert film if you can, that thing shows just a bit of how popular he is in Japan. He also did a fair amount of electronica back in his early years, it seems. Check out "Information," an album he made under the name of "Wonder City Orchestra."
