@@jimmy5634 how so? I can hear a distinction between strings/ notes. But I think the taylors are a little more pronounced in this example. Theyre different size bodies though. I own a d28 and it's very articulate.
I love Martins but this one sounds dull and flat by comparison. I own several Gibson’s and Martins, pains me to say the Taylor is easily the best sounding guitar in this video. Could be strings, mic placement, or just the fact that every guitar has its own unique tone, but it’s the clear winner here.
All 3 sound amazing, but to my ears the Martin wins. Gibson has nice low end & a very nostalgic sound to me. Taylor is bright and crisp. Martin blends both in such a nice way.
Taylor 317 (or 417, 517, 717) Grand pacific (round shoulder dread) would a been a more relative comparison than using a grand autidorium bodystyle to compare against dreadnoughts
My thoughts exactly. Maybe so many of these comparison videos use grand auditorium bodystyle to represent Taylor just because Taylor produces them the most, but a larger model Taylor would make for a much more consistent comparison with the other 2 brands' guitars here.
The Martin is incredibly well rounded and balanced, deep, warm lows & bright, crisp highs, where as other acoustics often leave at least one of those characteristics to be desired. Everyone has their preference. That being said, I also love Guild acoustics! 😏
Gib has more of a darker sound, taylor has more of an open-ended high punch through raw sound, and the martin has that sweet refined not too low, not too high sound, like aged wine.
I have a new D18 and it's the best sounding guitar I have out of 16 guitars. However; the way Martin is getting such a huge, vibrant sound from it is by making the back, sides, and top very very thin. The guitar is the lightest I've ever played for its size. This guitar will be very easy to crack or for the binding to come loose through normal playing. My friend has the same guitar, keeps humidity to about 50 percent and he has both a crack and the binding is coming loose. For the crack, he said he barely tapped the arm of a wooden chair and it cracked. For the binding, I don't think it was humidity. It could have been bad glue, craftsmanship, etc. Martin paid to fix it, but as I run my hand along the binding I note that the binding and wood are not smoothly put together. Wish me luck with mine; I don't have high hopes. Amazing sound, but there's a trade-off in durability.
I have a friend that told me to stay away from Martin's for that exact reason. He's had to do a bunch of repairs on their guitars as they are falling apart. I was really thinking hard about getting one... I think I'll go with the Gibby.
Nothing is going to crack. Relax. The d18 isn't made super thin. Absolutely ridiculous 😂. The only issue they've ever had is binding. Which is been fixed. They're acoustic guitars. You're not supposed to smack them into tables. Although I've done it with my Martins by accident and dinged them. Never cracked one, ever Even the custom authentics, which are using thinner tops don't crack. I dropped a heavy tuning gauge right on my top. Small ding The binding thing was an issue though. I will agree there. The fact your friend got a crack, well he's not telling you something. It sure as hell didn't just crack. That's not how it works. I've owned Martins my entire life and never seen or had one crack. Your friend is hiding something from you. Sorry but that's a fact. Barely tapped is a lie. I gaurentee hr smacked the hell out of it. Martins have nevrr had cracking issues I kept one of mine at 30-35% humidity for years on end with forced air heat in the room. Which is a no no for any guitar. Was an accident. New house. Wasn't thinking. Never one crack. And this was a lightly built golden era 18 I hate when rumors spread off of some guys "experience" If you want a super heavily built guitar btw, you'll never get good sound. Martins are lightly built inna sense. But not built where they just crack and fall apart. Froggy Bottoms for instance are MUCH MORE lightly built than Martin and they're 10k guitars
Well-executed comparison, only I wish it included more than strumming. Preference is mainly a question of taste. The J-45 is the most bassy and fundamental, and the 314 the most trebly and overtoney. The D-18 is to me a reasonable compromise, plus it has a certain complexity that the other two lack.
Ninguna es mejor que la otra porque al ser diferentes instrumentos, dan diferentes sonido y, queda ya al gusto de lo que cada quien busca a la hora de hacer música.
The Martin needed a better mic position. I think if you got the best position with the mics you are using it would show off each guitar to it's optimum potential. This might've been the best set up including the room for the Taylor. I liked the Gibson best but could have been miced even better. With just one general purpose mic and position I liked the Gibson here. Your videos are always great. You play very nice. I do appreciate the one set up for all three guitars. It gives a good representation of all the guitars. I still think it might be nice to see what room, mics, and position would get the best sound out of each and do another comparison.
I had a Taylor 314ce for about 4 years, I liked it until I picked up a j45. Sold the Taylor and got the j45. It’s all opinion and taste but for me the playability of the j45 is outstanding and the sound is sublime , I don’t like it I love it.😀👍

Thanks for not producing lots of tones per second. ( impressing soloplaying) That kind of playing to often makes it difficult to hear the sound of the instrument.
No surprises here. As always, Taylor most bright, articulate and versatile, Martin darker and woodier with more bass, Gibson distinctive, dry, classic low-fi sound. Taylor will unquestionably have the best overall build quality, then Martin, then Gibson.

I feel over all, the Martin would be best for strumming and singing as it’s just has such a good balance of tones, especially for recording with vocals. Just my thoughts though. 🤷♂️💰
I've owned a multitude of all these guitars, and my personal opinion is that the alternative woods used by Taylor, Sapele or Ovangkol, never come close to matching Mahogany or Rosewood. Gibson scooped mids ,punchy bottom ,delicate highs ,quick note decay, warm sparkly non obtrusive strum
Taylor prounced upper mids ,weak bottom, harsher highs, long note decay, bright in your facestrum
