    The Olympics will be interesting. The difference between teams like Australia/Spain/Serbia and the US is that overseas players are developed from a young age to play a role in their club's senior team and a lot of them are used to being bench, then gradually getting a role in the team and some becoming stars. Whereas in the US players are mostly developed as individuals so they can get college scholarships/go pro. This US team is made up almost entirely of guys who have pretty much been the first or 2nd option their entire lives. I still think they are the favourites, solely because they will have at least 4 of the best 5 players on the court at all times. But if they lose, it will be because of their style of play and inability to play actual team basketball.

      All-Star teams that don't play together as a team very long, aren't going to be as good as teams that play together for a long time. Players learn what their teammates are thinking, where they like to get the ball, and just generally how to complement each other on the court.
      Interest in NBA has been dropping over the years. It's not as much fun to watch, any more. I stopped watching in the early 2000s, mainly to free up time for other activities. But when I tune in to watch at random, nowadays, it's not the same game. Not as team-oriented as it used to be.

    As a Lithuanian, I gotta tell you Americans: it's coming faster than you think. We used to qualify for every major tournament just because we're Lithuania. We just had more culture and basketball history so we beat teams like Germany, Angola and Brazil by default. It's not the case anymore. We failed to qualify for the Olympics for the first time ever for the same exact reasons the US is struggling against Nigeria and Australia. The world caught up and we didn't work as hard anymore.
    Obviously, the US has an insane amount of talent and resources. But pride and teamwork are something earned, not given. I still think the US is taking gold but it will not be easy at all. What separates Curry from anyone in this team USA including KD is he is not just an iso guy which he can be but he is the best off the ball player in the nba meaning he doesn’t need to iso or dribble the ball to get his buckets. So it’s tough guarding him because he can beat you on the ball and off the ball in many ways yet people be downplaying he isn’t a legend and disrespect him.

      To judge someone’s physical ability or their potential or their worthiness of opportunities because they are from another country, even a hostile one, is unfair.

      The NBA has been moving away from iso ball for 10-15 years now as witnessed by the Suns with Nash, Golden State, the Raptors and now Phoenix and Milwaukee, the Team Game is superior, the Europeans had to remind us of that. BTW, you do realize that before the NBA / ABA merger in the 70s the game was played much more like the nowadays European game? Blacks played a more street ball version of the game which led to the game we have now for the last 45 years or so. The European Team game is much more true to its roots.

    • @esho758
      @esho758 3 года назад +26

      You must be a young af if you think the NBA is mostly iso ball now. Now the 90s-early 2000s....that was iso ball. Today's league is heavily focused on 3 point shooting, which requires more passing to get the open shot. Yes, you have teams like the Harden led Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers who relied heavily on iso ball, but even then they were still passing out jacking up a bunch of 3's. Look at the team that dominated last decade, the Golden State Warriors, a beautiful passing team. This olympic team is playing a bunch of iso because they're not used to playing with each other, haven't had much practice time together, and haven't established a hierarchy. Once (maybe I should say IF) they figure out who's the top dog, who's second/third options, and their roles become more defined, they will start crushing the competition again. Probably need to get used to playing tougher defense as well. NBA has gotten soft on that side of the ball.

    David Stern was a complete and ignorant fool for his comments on Arydas Sabonis. Us Lithuanians wanted no part of the Soviet Union since we were occupied by them. Sabonis wasn't from the Soviet Union, he was from Lithuania which happened to be occupied by the Soviet Union.
    As a pro athlete, he had no choice of doing anything other than representing the USSR. He would never have played for the Soviets if he had a choice to play for his own country.
    Also,4 of the 12 players on the 1988 Soviet squad were Lithuanian. Another 2 were Latvian and Estonian. Out of a territory of nearly 300 million people, half the team was represented by countries totaling 6 million people. But David Stern was very superficial and nasty about it, just like the Karens and Chads booing in Portland.

      The rules evolved to match some NBA becoming flexible on the traveling before dribbling, yet we are still having the defensive stance. Coach says "you'll win a game if you don't let the other team score more than 65 points". Meanwhile, in NBA we'd say "you win by outscoring the other team".

    There’s a reason why guys like MJ and Kobe only got more intense as their careers progressed. It’s easier for later generations to achieve skills like theirs when they’ve seen the greats in action. The pioneers work harder to pave the way resulting in an easier job for their descendants to walk the path. Becoming the best is about innovation and motivation. Staying the best is about vigilance and relentlessness.
