- Governor Ron DeSantis has overhauled the way race and LGBTQ issues are discussed in public schools in Florida, and the fight has engaged right wing power players including the Proud Boys, Moms for Liberty and Michael Flynn. Last year DeSantis passed two controversial bills: the Stop WOKE Act and a bill nicknamed ‘Don’t Say Gay’. Democrats and Republicans have fired up parents on all sides of the debate and school board meetings in Florida have turned into partisan politics free-for-alls. In partnership with Zac Anderson of the Sarasota-Herald Tribune, we find out what’s at the root of the fight over public education.

Sex ed should definitely be taught in public middle schools. Kids need to be taught about safe and responsible sex when they hit puberty.
My heart still aches and tears still rolls down from my eyes every time I hear or see something about Mr. Tyre Nichols! It’s like an ache in my throat and stomach I can’t explain, especially when I hear him call for his Mom and see how they watch him laying and falling to the ground without trying to give him some medical assistance! 😢 You can only ask what’s wrong with people today? This young man was a human that was treated less than a roach stumped, kicked, and swapped in the head repeatedly until he had no more life to fight against them! I’m so hurt because I saw a repeated attack from officers against a black man! Period! Lord when is ALL of this innocent killings going to stop??? White people see their children being killed and think…oh my this could be one of my children! Well guess what? Black and Brown people feels the same way…this could be one of our children too!!! NOT ALL of OUR CHILDREN ARE THUGS! We HAVE GREAT CHILDREN TOO AND WE ARE TIRED OF THEM BEING KILLED! And STOP thinking your children are the only ones who have mental illnesses! We are born into a society where we’re prone to be conditioned to have some type of mental health issues because of all the things we go through in our communities! Tell me what special treatment a black person receives over a white person in the United States’ justice system, and then I stand to be corrected! Because as of now all I can say is the justice system is against our young black men. And we’re NEVER going to make it right with “Justice for All” in this Country until we do Right by ALL!!! ✌🏼🇺🇸⚖️ May God bless Tyre’s Mom and his family and friends In Jesus name! Amen! 🙏🏽❤️ You will always be in my prayers because Tyre’s image that he had to endured for a senseless act by ALL who were involved is something God will take care of In Jesus name! The mostly Republican citizens of Sarasota county would love to see an expose on the left wing foundations and teachers unions that have been negatively influencing curriculum and culture at our schools. Why is it that Sarasota schools were open over a year before many many Democrat run jurisdictions? It was because conservative politicians demanded it.
