I didn’t want to believe it. It didn’t feel real to me” These were Kawhi’s comments on his father’s death and we can see how much of a traumatic event it was for Kawhi. Worse, a day after the tragedy, he had to play a basketball game where he scored 17 points in a loss, and immediately cried in his mother’s arms after the game ended. “It was real sad. My father was supposed to be at the game.” as Kawhi said. After that event, Kawhi’s mom, Kim Leonard, saw something a little odd about Kawhi. She didn’t see Kawhi suffer from that event like a normal teenager would and that made her worried, constantly asking him “Kawhi, are you okay?” but Kawhi always kept it in. Many believe this event caused Kawhi to keep his emotions to himself. His mother said his NEVER been the same again.
