    The farm that I work on, we've purchased three of these steering valves, best thing we ever did. The valve is lighter,so it's easier to handle. We've had no problems. We will be getting more of these In the future for our other 4020's. We have 20 of these tractors

    Good job on steering. Good job on steamer too and the mod to add water. Looking forward to seeing board form and how that works. Enjoy watching your Dad be creative and make stuff and product. His subject of wood working, would certainly make a good channel I think!!

    Comment on steam box
    You need a high point vent to purge the air out or box
    Air will not transfer heat to the wood like steam
    This will help in saturating the whole board
    Enjoy the interaction with your dad
    This will help your channel a bunch
    The channels I enjoy most is the ones that has this interaction
    Keep out the good work

    As much as I like the modern tractors you have serviced I've been having more fun with the 4020.
    Also your speadsheets are very impressive.
    I'm glad your Dad's getting to be a part of the channel.

    You should've used a steering wheel puller and the shaft would not have broken. Lacking some details but not a bad video ... thank you for sharing

    Although somewhat troublesome to fit that steering valve system seems to work exactly as you would wish.
    My Dad, used to make walking sticks as a hobby from wood growing in the hedgerows. Often hazel, ash or holly were the prime choice. He used steam in a pipe to soften them to get them straight and then fixed them to a length of steel to cool down and dry out. They usually came out ramrod straight and stayed that way even if they became wet.

    Scan the old 4020 manual before it falls apart that way you’ll always have a colored copy on file with grandfather’s hand writing

    Hiya, here in the UK every time I've seen wood seamers they've used wallpaper strippers as the steam source. A 3ltr pressurized box with an electric heating element. The only outlet from the see-through box is a hose to the steam box.

  • @gregarthur4746
    @gregarthur4746 4 года назад

    Your dad's idea is great, but maybe need an exterior boiler and route the steam through the steamer. He already has the fittings on the tube. Add another tee to the above the pressure gauge and put the popoff valve above it. Run the steam inlet at the bottom and the return at the top.

    When I worked in Ag Retail right out of college we used and sold AgExplore products. If so remember right they had some really good micronutrient packs that worked pretty good and some Nitrogen stabilizer that we really liked and worked really good. I think it’s worth looking into and trying a few products

    I’m thinking an external tank plumbed to inject steam in the box would be the way to go. Also, from watching boat builders, (Acorn to Arabella) I don’t think you need pressure, just steam. They even used bags in a pinch.

    You're slipping, Nathan. I can't believe you didn't repaint the bracket you moved from the old to new steering valve, LOL! I don't remember if you said before, has the engine on the 4020 been rebuilt? I know you repainted it years ago be wasn't sure what mechanically (major stuff) had been done.

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  4 года назад +2

      Yes the engine was overhauled in 2006 roughly 14,800 hrs. It's possible it was done previously to that but I don't have a record of it.

    how come some people use 32% nitrogen and others use 28%? what’s the difference?

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  4 года назад +1

      Ability to store it through the cold weather. 32% will salt out when it gets to 32*, 28% salts out at 0* 28% is just 32% cut with water.

    • @anstromwally6708
      @anstromwally6708 4 года назад

      What does salt out mean? Nitrogen can leach/evaporate I understand but never heard salt out.

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  4 года назад

      Basically the colder a solution gets the less solids can stay in solution. 32% is diluted to 28% so that the concentration of solids is lower and it won't "salt-out"

    Why in the world is there so many lines just to go left&right???

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  4 года назад +1

      Because you have to be able to go left and right if the engine stalls. It's much more complicated because of the needed safety of being able to steer without power.
