My grandparents lived in that area until the early 80’s, I remember it as a loud terrible place with no parking spots and rude people, seems to have only gotten worse.

It’s Plauseable IMO that those piles had very small lawns in front of them , i grew up in the Bronx and we had such a tiny Lawn that my Dad bought a Electric mower that plugged into a extension Cord if he cut ours he cut both neighbors the same day or he said it wasn’t worth dragging the thing from the basement ! i never measured it but i don’t think the lawn was any bigger than 6X4 feet surrounded by some type of hedges !
