The music video is referencing Christopher Nolan’s movie, Inception, with the elevator bringing him down further into his head. Mirroring Leonardo DiCaprio’s character. That is why the monster is the last stop of the elevator, the deepest part of his mind. All are events and significant memories and milestones. Allusions, the song itself, lyrics, cinematography, metaphors, it’s all there. Video adds a lot and I didn’t mention it all. Truly great song and video! Good work Stevie!

Em videos are crazy, there’s nothing that just is with this man, every word in his lyrics, every scene in his videos everything is just so thought out and creative and is there for a reason to convey some meaning for those who look, its crazy what the inside of his mind looks like.

Those are the lyrics that he receives from the monster in his head (slim shady) The video shows the journey through his career delving deeper as the elevator descends. Its a metaphorical therapy session to find the root of his problems. "I wonder where these thoughts spawn from" to "Im just relaying what the voice in my head says. Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just friends with the monster".
This was at a time in his career that he was trying to put the crazy slim shady image (the alcoholic, drug abuser persona) down for good and seperate himself from that image and expectation since being sober. He stopped dying his hair to represent he is done with that chapter and wanted to rap as matured woke eminem. (I.e. Not afraid, onward) but fans complained that he wasn't as savage and fell off. But he still has that 'shady' caged and under surveillance deep down inside him fighting to be released.
"But dre all shady is, is a bottle of hair bleach and vodka" - My Darling, Relapse
Critics forced his hand to make Kamikaze, since the whole point of Revival (coming back to life after he 'killed' the slim shady inside him) He was trying to speak as Eminem or Marshal Mathers dealing with all the consequences for 'Shadys' actions over the years. But fans didnt understand that he doesnt want to associate with that addict reflection of self anymore. It made him snap on kamikaze due to the public not understanding that. He is trying to close that chapter and move on as an artist without set expectation. The public enraged him so much that they forced his hand to snap. That fuel gave him the shady rage without the drugs and alcohol and said 'alright..fuck it.'
"You wanted Shady?? You got him" - Fall, Kamikaze
Always pay attention to how he references to himself in song. He has always been clear which persona he embodies when he delivers a track. He will call himself Em, or Marshall when he is speaking from his artist rap self. Vs calling himself Slim Shady when he is snapping on motherfuckers and lets that part of him take the wheel when writing. He has a clear distinction between the two and never uses them interchangeably.
He has been dropping allusions to this inner Em vs. Shady his entire career. And has had multiple attempts at dropping (killing off) the Shady persona "That's Slim Shady, yeah baby Slim Shady's crazy, Shady made me, but tonight, Shady's rock-a-bye baby" followed by "How could it be that the curtain is closing on me? I turn around, find a gun on the ground, Cock it, put it to my brain, scream "die Shady!" And pop it" -When I'm Gone, Curtain Call
The song Evil twin, off of The Marshall Mathers LP 2, is him being able to switch between Em and Slim entirely by which persona is behind the wheel while writing. In the song he says "But I think the lines are starting to get blurred" between his own seperation of the two personas and ends with "Still Shady inside, hair every bit is dyed as it used to be when I first introduced y'all to my skiddish side, and blamed it on him when they tried to criticize 'cause we are the same, bitch!"
However Shadys fuel of rage isnt being drawn from addiction any longer. He is feeding off the negativity of the critics who doubt his artistry "I don't wanna seem mad, but in fact, where the old me at? The same cat that would take that feedback and aim back, I need that" -Lucky You, Kamikaze. In the music video for Fall, on Kamikaze, He is running away from the physically manifested Shady that emerged from his phone after he drops it in a rage due to reading all the negative criticism or critique Revival received. It chases him and no matter how hard he attempts, he can not out run it and succumbs to it in the end as he steps on the Revival album. Followed by Venom to close the album, being the first song with Em embodying Shadys new power source. "Slim be the combination of an actual kamikaze and Gandhi. Translation, I will probably kill us both when I end up Back into ya".
He has featured as the new infused Marshall, on singles between the drop of Kamikaze and MTBMB. One being with an artist he signed, Boogie. "Fuck it, I thought this might be a good time to put woke me to rockabye, I got the bottle of NyQuil right here. You want the sleep me to wake, you want Slim Shady EP That's on the CD cover, sockin' my mirror" "If you end up shocked at my lyrics, Marshall is dead in the water, but not that I care. Dre said, "Rock the boat" and the Doc is my pier. So, it's unanimous, you're at attention, the planet's listenin' And their banana splits again" -Rainy Days, Everything is for Sale
Thus "Music to be Murdered by" is signed Slim Shady on the cover art. It is the first album he is embracing Slim back in a healthy/sober way. This new album MTBMB is full blown Em/Slim hybrid.✍🏽🐐🔥🎯💯(Please React to Eminem “Survival” & “Berzerk” Music Videos)

MMLP2 was one of my personal favourite Em albums. Seriously such a huge album. Gives me chills thinking of all the memories I have attached to those songs. It’s one of those Em albums where I woke up, and my entire day was planned around going to the store, getting that CD and listening to it. I probably threw the cashier off by how crazed I was to get my hands on it. I was so excited the entire way home, the album case was so cool, I was going through every detail on it. I threw it in my 360 and cracked a bottle by myself literally goin so hard rappin the choruses. I’ll never forget that day. I was 18 at the time. Now I’m 27. I feel blessed I’ve gotten to grow up with Em.

Shady is literally locked up and "feeding" him bars. The way I see it, you see him raging to get out but the calm and collected Eminem thumbs through Shady's chaos to get a few bars here and there to keep his career going. It's interesting but Em looks like he almost pitty's Shady and wishes he could set him free but knows the risk is too high, so he uses him instead.

The visuals of the video are amazing metaphors. Not only going down the elevator getting glimpses into his career stages, but also the use of "The Way I Am" sections to represent that the deeper Em goes inside his mind, the more he discovers his "real self". Only to end at the bottom (deepest part of his mind) to find himself locked in the cage as an animal that throws out the "pages of bars" to use. As long as that "animal" is deep inside of Eminem, it is going to be throwing out page after page after page of bars. All Em has to do is mentally admit that he has to "reach down" into that place inside of him to get the best ones.
