Skylar Grey wrote Rihanna's lyrics and the whole idea of this enormous hit came from her hook. That was the first Eminem and Skylar Grey collab and she has been featured on every album ever since ( except kamikaze ). She wrote Beyonce's lyrics on Walk on Water too. She is an amazing vocalist too but she is not poppin like that. I feel like Em really tries to give her the attention she deserve by having all these features.

Technically not the 1st. She was brought on by Dr. Dre for his I Need A Doctor track, that was the 1st time they work and met. Instant chemistry, and you do know the rest. I love what she pulls out of him when they work together, she pulls out an unique side of Em. They have amazing chemistry!

I thought the same but I had to check it since there were three versions of this track. Skylar Gray wrote the hook for sure. This version and the third version were actually written by Eminem. Rihanna's words on two and three were written by Eminem and I didn't even check one yet. The hook was written by Skylar Gray, but it doesn't say anything about Skylar Gray writing the words but it says rather that Eminem wrote the verse for all three versions when I just checked again before finishing this. I feel like he had to have done this because in coughing with Jesse Reyes, it's almost the exact same theme. She's a great songwriter also but I just felt like this was coming from one artist or it couldn't be the same theme so close on two different tracks with two different women unless one of these artists collaborated with the others, but instead it was Eminem . Skylar Gray's original lyrics for this track were nothing to do with mentally or physically abusive love relationships at all. Skylar Gray wrote her original verse based on her relationship with her record company. The hook stayed but the verse wasn't ever the same as hers that she wrote towards or about the record label. I had to dig in because there's actually three versions of this thing that I have been recorded by m and Rihanna. I just knew this was way too close to Jesse Reyes and her lyrics in coffin. I knew Eminem had to have suggested something from what I read is exactly what happened with Rihanna and M changing the lyrics for all versions. Rihanna and Eminem had a similar group of stories about lousy and abusive relationships. Now don't blame me if I'm wrong because I'm going by Google results and reading more than one website. If anybody wants to try to correct me please do but give me some website or something so I can go check it because I love to learn about this just like you guys

@@choice12ozborne the hook and the 1st verse of part 2 is what Skyler wrote everything Em wrote is Eminem's but the hook and this additional verse was Skyler's, she originally wrote it as one track. Eminem has more songs with this theme outside of this and Coffin.

For a minute Skylar Grey (Holly Brook/Holly Hafermann) was writing half the songs in hip hop. Love The Way You Lie, I Need A Doctor. Lupe Fiasco's "Words I Never Said". Diddy's "Coming Home". T.I.'s "Castle Walls". Her versions are all up on youtube. Gotta be honest, as much as I love hip hop, some of these songs were wasted on making them into other artists' hip hop versions. Hey, Stevie. I was with a girl years ago who beat me. I let her. She thought that was normal. I thought that if I loved her enough, she would realize that hitting me wasn't necessary. I was so in love with her, I couldn't walk. Almost three years I put up with it. I was also swirling in a spiral of self hate and lack of confidence. I let her do anything she wanted as long as she didn't leave me.
Eventually, she threw me out and moved her ex into our house. I was at an all-time low. Homeless. Unemployed. Suicidal.
It was a long road to come back from that. It took me years.
I found a good woman and we've been together 13 years now. No fist fights. No violence. It's good.

I cried so much when I first heard love the way you lie on the radio because it was so relatable at the time, same with part 2. And I mean relatable to the core, each and every word. I got away from the relationship years ago but I still miss it sometimes. As crazy as it sounds, the toxicity is addictive, it makes you feel alive. And I've not even been in a bad relationship ever. It's just .... it's just perfect.

  • @nealyg3254
    @nealyg3254 2 года назад +12

I could somewhat relate to the whole song.... when I was younger and had a warped view of what loving/love meant. The masochist line wasn't (for me) loving the pain but loving that f@#ker in the way I thought you were supposed to love someone unconditionally. It took a significant amount of time being single and taking the time to heal from childood traumas and toxic relationships, learning to love myself, and learning what real love and healthy relationships looked like to understand just how toxic those final two relationships (before today's) really were and how toxic I was myself.
Hearing both parts always make me tear up.

It is love from the perspective of 2 damaged people. You don't exactly get pleasure from pain or anything.
Human being are creatures of habit and throughout their lives they look for familiar patterns to hang from.
Not only in a romantic relationship but in general.
And if growing up you've gone through different toxic relationships and environments, that's what you'll subconsciously look for in the future as well.Because it's the only thing you've experienced so you feel kinda safe in it.
You still see that it damages you but the safety and comfort you feel while being in these kind of relationships always outweighs the harmful things it does to you mentally(and physically sometimes).

All that. - and if u wanna hear real Em play the one dedicated to Proof. That shiz still gets to me. Difficult. - For real the masochists' thing is legit. I can't explain it brother. Somehow it made me an my exes bond more. Can't explain it right other than if they can accept the worst of you, then maybe this the real deal. At least for now. It's like family, you hope that they gon love you at your worst.

I just checked and apparently Skylar Gray wrote The Hook and that was a for what was released on 3 versions of this track. Skylar Gray wrote The Hook and she had her original lyrics but hers were about a controversy she was having between herself and her record label. From what I read, there's three tracks with Rihanna and Eminem. Rihanna and Eminem wrote them together and it was based on past abusive relationships of which they related according to these different Google sites. Makes sense to me. M&M gets credit for writing the lyrics or versus on Rihanna and his side. I think that's why Stevie saw that because I also thought this sounds like another version of coffin with Jesse Reyes. Well yes Jesse Reyes writes her on music and she's a great songwriter. There's no doubt now that if I go check it's going to say Jesse Reyes coffin with Eminem was a combination of her and Eminem writing her verse or versus. They're just too freaking close to this track about loving someone so much that you're going to literally forget about your health and forget everything else and take it to the death which is what I see this track and coughing being about. What you say? Sorry did you spitting some truth and I wanted to tell you what I found on Google results because where else can I look other than just listening to other people? So what you got? It does make sense that the coffin and this tracks lyrics do have similarities in hindsight imo but you're a smart one so let me know

It’s like the “good or bad, attention is attention”. You feel seen. When things are going good, it’s easy to take that for granted, do your own thing. Then the drama comes in, and suddenly, you can’t be ignored. You have to deal with each other. But it passes, and the cycle starts again. Then it accelerates because you get addicted to that feeling of being seen, being heard. So you keep it going and both of you realize there’s something deep inside that connects you, I hesitate to call it love, because it’s twisted. But you begin to thrive off that energy, even though it’s toxic. So you keep it going, you push those buttons because the normal shit doesn’t elicit that same response. And yes, you feel a sense of power that you don’t feel when things aren’t so heightened. It really does create something monstrous.

10:40 nailed it. He’s a perfectionist. It WOULD take more effort it to do this. It would ratchet that anxiety up like crazy. I remember procrastinating on papers because I would write a better 15 page paper if I had some pressure on me. Rereading my stuff would often lead to a death spiral of correcting things that actually loudly get me lower grades. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ as a ballet dancer it seeps into every movement I make. I used to get comments about why I tried acting super graceful or like a dancer when I was doing normal stuff….i would always be so confused. As an artist, performer, it becomes a PART of you. In very demanding arts like ballet you live, eat, breathe, dream, crap ballet ok? Especially if you end up going to a dance school as a child or teen and start that sort of training very young. Em didn’t go to the Detroit Institute for Emcees (ok crap name, I couldn’t think of anything better) but he takes the same approach as those dancers do. There isn’t a way to not do it that way. It’s all you know. It doesn’t define you but as much as my brown hair and my olive skin don’t define me, I’m not gonna say they’re not a big part of who I am. My intelligence doesn’t make me better or lesser, but it is a huge part of who I am. That sort of thing.
10:21 you just made me think. That very ….dissonance. The amazing lyrical work that we love and then we realise…crap, it’s about something horrible and not in a shock value Slim Shady way. Conflicting? Yup. And we love this. Remind you of the other contradicting things in this saga?
With Em, we can find ourselves really bopping to some horrendous crap haha. Have to remember, “no, murdering people =/= good, self!” But then our id goes “yeah, but it’s so darned catchy, eff it….keep bopping, bouncing or whatever! W can worry about morality after this” XD
It’s like how you (and even myself) forget about how some of Em’s beats aren’t the…best. And we wind up not giving a flying eff XD though, personally, I would hold him to ona higher beat standard if he was a singer or made music for the purpose of getting clubs to play it etc. I think sometimes he does it on purpose “how can I take this and just MAKE people enjoy it.” So much for our consent on that (it’s fine…I don’t care.)
…and I’m already making tongue in cheek consent remarks. I’m not gen z, it’s obvious.

The pleasure comes from the attention that you crave whether be positive or negative it's human nature to crave something we internally understand what we can't have although we truly know it's nothing we can attain. She loves the shit he puts her through because it's the only attention she gets from him and that is what she is inherently views as love

8:22 Not my bag necessarily, But I assess and analyze. To help you get ahead in the game, just some thoughts until someone tells you their truth of understanding for themselves, here are some thoughts.-Ernie Moore Jr.
8:35 From what I gather-the pain as pleasure can be a functioning person but with crossed wires. But more to this case in the song when a person wants love but gets abuse they can perceive the world in terms they can understand. And a child from drawings does not see as crisply as when older so things are not set like how we are comfortable in our definitions. They are comfortable in the sliding acceptance--You get beaten but they feed you. They tell you you are no good they must know because they are older and you take your cues for what is true and right from them. So you just need to do better. You want love. But can't know what that is, yet you want it so you define whatever you receive that sounds like your understanding of love. When they beat you or have sex with you they pay attention to you. If you fear being alone; then whatever they do that brings them around you that what they do when they spend time with you gets to be considered to be love. So many want to be loved even with no way to know what it truly is they define it and they can have it.-Ernie Moore Jr.
What adults are trained to accept, children can misunderstand. But as they grow their beliefs solidify.-Ernie Moore Jr.
A strong person wants a stronger person who might challenge them. Also being in control and needing to be the lead for everyone around you can get tired and you want the break from needing to make decisions for those around you to being a follower without as much responsibility..-Ernie Moore Jr.
The song part two shows what he was like in part one was a response to her abuse. Basically they would be bad for someone not abused. But two abused children now adults understand the actions of the other person are not malicious nor hateful but their attempts to communicate. The fact they stay shows they care even if the have difficulty expressing themselves. I'll call it a form of autism, Socially challenged attempts to communicate or express feelings. But they both do it and they want -Need affection and another person. However no one can tolerate nor be understanding, no one who is not one of them but they are two dysfunctional to our standards. But they are two normal humans whose learning was incomplete. They have Human needs. They are still learning yet also set in their ways. They do not have the experiences to communicate with many people. But they can express and understand and Love one another and be normal and mentally healthy as they have available trying to live Normal.-Ernie Moore Jr.
