Eminem downplayed Relapse, which won the Grammy's Best Rap Album that year then he came back with Recovery and won it again. Even the album that he admitted was flawed is an award winning album. Isn't that crazy.
Just goes to show what M thinks is bad is still better they what other rappers are putting out 🤣😂🤣
He also said similar things about recovery on either MMLP2 or on Kamikaze. Not sure which off the top of my head though. He makes a reference to him kinda selling out a little bit for the recovery album.

Not afraid is terrible
@@princedame9534 Way to shit on his/her message about how the song helped people struggling with addictions in some way. This is why society is in collapse, people like you bruh. Instead of just being chill, you gotta try and get in someone's feels when you wouldn't do that shit to their face. Bet.

14:54 Also he pronounced "exOrcise" as "exErcise", "exorcise" mean to cast out demons, it's a double, he is also getting the demons to do jumping jacks lololol he got them to do exercise
Yeah.. Caught that too
I think he's also talking about the fact that he used excersise as a new vice when getting clean, so I think that bar is a triple.
Appreciate that cause it went right over my head lol

Relapse is the most lyrical insane album of all time. Fight me.
Facts
my favourite eminem album. period. better than sslp I'd say.
@@Mohit-iu3ge nah...mine is recovery for favorite, relapse is most lyrical, mmlp is his best album.
@@Sh4dyMamb4 MTBMB is better than Relapse. SSlp,MMlp and the Eminem show are my favorite albums but ik love all the albums. MMlp was so different and genius it probably always will be my nr1. Now he is just on another level tho and ppl always say im a Stan but i listen to Wu-Tang,Nas,Mobb deep,Krs one,Gangstarr,Big L and many many more. He is just different and he really pushes the pen because he loves the art. He can do it all and no matter what style he does it. People that don't really listen to him just don't get it because you really have to puzzle and understand what he is doing.
Lyrically insane is a stretch. The verse structures and rhyme patterns are dope AF tho!
For those of us that have struggled with addiction.....this song literally has saved us
I am struggling with addiction and this song help me a lot.I always listen this song when I feel down.
I also was in recovery when this album dropped, I wore this CD out in my car. Was so inspirational.
Thank you. Still makes my hair stand and eyes water a little

8 months clean in 3 hours.I quit counting after 12 months. If there's a motherfucking will there is a motherfucking way.
I remember when i heard this one for the first time. Em went trough allot of shit and went silent for a while. Then this came out and all i could think was HE IS BACK. This for me is the ultimate comeback song besides its the ultimate motivation song. This song is pure genius.
Same here, but the feeling was a lot stronger when I heard Kamikaze

"a whole lil' fartin' scheme" ..
Em at it again
He did 😂😂
Eminem saved a lot of people's lives with this and many songs.
Cause I've seen people comment about how people use Eminem's music like some kind of therapy, cause Em knows what's like to be in those dark places.
That's one of the reasons on why I believe he's the greatest of all time, even if you don't have exactly those problems that Eminem had, you still know what's like to be on sadness and anger, and Em just embrace them, he's so honest about it and invites the rest to do it as well.
As a recovering addict - this is THE song that reminds me what I’m fighting for... for myself, my kids, my life!! This is why people are so emotionally invested in Em, he has pulled them out of some dark shit through his music!! Or they just appreciate the genius he is!! Either way... I’m so happy you broke this down, because people DEFINITELY need to be reminded now more than ever!!! 🔥🔥
Congrats on sobriety! I'm glad you made the decision, and kept to it! Keep it up!
@@jaaptendijk7192 - thank you!
Did anyone catch the fact that when he says "exercise these demons" it could also be referred to as an exorcism where you get rid of demons in a body. 💯💯💯 EMS bars have layers bruh
Bro all love but i think most people caught that lol
@@amglory7042 facts lol
The line I didn't connect till now was, "instead of getting crowned you're gettin capped"
M Keener , eminem is basically saying instead of getting crowned(thats what they do to a king they give him a crown) hes getting CAPPED(a cap/hat instead of a crown and capped means getting killed in slang), some say he was subliminally dissing lil wayne with this bar since around the time this song dropped lil wayne used to refer to himself as the king of hip hop. Sorry for the essay bro i just feel happy explaining eminems bars i love him😂❤️
@@amglory7042 I must say that was one hell of a breakdown, sadly I knew full well what they meaning was behind it, but if I could go back in time and learn it from you instead I would be ok with that
Don’t get it twisted Stevie, Em says Relapse is “ehhh” but I think the production on that album would be among your favorites out Em’s albums
The storytelling there is amazing as well. 🌸
Flow, rhymes schemes, wordplay, storytelling. Only thing he might not like is goofy content like in insane
Nah its all shock value, the beats are fire but the content isn't
He is right on how dark that album is tho. That album is still one of my favorites tho
Relapse is underrated.
"You'd swear to God I've forgot I'm the guy that made Not Afraid" - Eminem during "Fall" when he went in on so many people. Lol
"Line 'em up"
"Line'em up "
I was relating to this song when I was In my addiction, and it let me know that I wasn't alone when I felt like I was alone. Now I'm clean and sober and still on my feet.
I started my recovery when this came out. Felt like he was speaking directly to me. Knowing I was fighting for my life and it was worth fighting for…. This song empowered so many to face 9 days of withdrawal to push into a life without regret and without any bindings over ur spirit n how it devours u from inside out. Still hits me.

Honestly that my fav song on the whole album
Kobe distracts me from the song but its good.
That Not Afraid beat sounds like heaven to me
Coming from my addiction. This song helped me and pushed me to fight the addiction. I was in a bad place in life also when I heard this song. Addiction is a long hard road to walk. This song is very uplifting to me when I get into the dark place in my head when my addictive mind trys to take me back down that road. This songs helps me and motivates me to keep moving without the addiction. Addiction is a dark cloud with demons. If you are reading this and are in addiction I’m praying that you overcome and conquer.
That song helped alot of ppl out of a dark place! Em wears his heart on his sleeve and the shit his been thru ......woh! The fact that he always defeats the odds and always goes so hard against his circumstances to come out on top a winner regardless!!! That's why ppl were n still are motivated by this song because it came from the realist - Em
OMFG I never even realized how deep that king, crown, capped line was.... holy shi....
It was about lil wayne because right before he went to prison he got emergency caps on his teeth. Plus wayne said he was the king.
This track is big for those on the "Road to Recovery" from drugs or alcohol. It was and still is for me.
I have been listening to Not Afraid since the song was released but I've never really seen this version of the song. You are the best reactor out there brother. You catch every bar brother. Thank you for making this song even more special to me.
That triple entente fucked me up with the crowns and the caps. I’ve heard this song about a hundred times and I never caught it. Love that shit, man. Damn good work and I’m so glad I found you. Thanks for having the knowledge and sharing! I appreciate you.
I know I’m a year late, but I also thought there was another layer on top of all that.
You LYING/LION through your teeth, and the lion is the “king of the jungle.”
The King "instead of getting crowned you're getting capped" reference is Marshall talking to himself. When he was on drugs he was considering putting out a final album called King Mathers. He's saying he's putting that person down and moving on. That's why he leads off the next line with "And to the fans". He's transitioning from talking to himself to talking to the listener.
The amount of people hes helped through his music is crazy. Im seriously sober partly cause of him. Got 4 years now.
I remember this was the one that let me know Em still had it after relapse. Didn't like relapse but recovery is one of his best projects and this was the one that set the bar
This song was about his addiction and it helped so many people including me. I got 3 years clean now and seeing Em could do it helped me immensely
Me as a pill addict for 7 years thanks to Eminem I found the strength I needed to overcome it , I'm 2 years sober , was using since 21 I'm 29 now and the sober life is amazing ! Thanks Eminem , I've matured enough to see that old life of mine doesn't being anything good , I'm blessed with a family and amazing family and friend support .
His love and appreciation for Trech is real! It’s not the first time he’s talked about his influence on him.
This song is so empowering. The whole Recovery album helped me through one of the darkest times in my life. Can't wait for your album review of it. 💪
Still loving the way you break down lyrics and really love the respect you give to Em
I wouldn’t have thought this song had so many bars/double and triple entendres..damn SK, you opened my eyes and ears to a whole new dimension. Keep up the great work💪
Bro! Back in my Military days.. this song and "Lose yourself" used to get me pumped up.. no matter the time, day or situation.
“I’m not afraid to take a (Stan) stand everybody take my hand”
He’s saying my stans I’m taking your hands I’ve got your back love EM how deep the meanings are the mor you listen to him.
19:12 From this song forward (2010), Em vowed to stop beefing/dissing people, which is why years later Kamikaze (2017) was such a huge deal that is was. The man finally had enough lol
I love this shit, heavy hip hop head discovering eminem and showing respect...keep em coming!🤘
Can't wait till he does Love the Way You Lie.
This was pretty much the beginning of Em's crazy wordplay. He's always done it but not in every single verse.
Alot of people don't notice how many doubles and triples there are in this song.
“I’m strong enough to go to the club or corner pub....”
He’s a recovering alcoholic but he is saying he can go to the pub and touch every bottle of alcohol in there and not have any.
I don't think he was ever an alcoholic
Listened to “Not Afraid” countless times. Never caught the triple about him being able to resist alcoholic temptation. Genius
Relapse is one of my favourite albums ever. Very dark mixed with humour. And the lyrical mayhem is totally insane throughout that album.
I heard him on an interview saying that on the albums that he did seriously crazy voices and stuff it was during his worst time of drug abuse.
Never really got into the lyrics of this song until recently as well. Absolutely killer song
One of my favorite reactions yet. You brought that feelin' back Stevie!! 🔥🔥
For the people still struggling and trying to recover, Eminem didn't make "not afraid" for us to keep going back on our promises.. hope y'all get through
(Survival , guts over fear, beautiful pain) motivational Em songs that goes hard
First song I ever heard from Em. My jaw dropped. Such a banger and so many bars
You usually catch everything but you missed the last line which is one of my fave on the song
"I'd shoot for the moon, but i'm too busy gazing at stars"
Meaning he isn't going to try to get to the moon that's too easy for him, he's aiming to go even further and make it to the stars
Honestly the ”quick playin with the scissors and shit, and cut the crap, I shouldn’t have to rhyme these words in a rhythm for you to know it’s a wrap.“ is so hard. That whole verse is insane.
“Time to exorcise these demons” the fact that they’re doing jumping jacks (exercising) is him saying the exorcism of his demons is complete because he faced them
Also "these black clouds follow me around" now they doin' jumping jacks which means they staying in one spot and not following him anymore
Yoo gotta do beautiful, such a dope song. If you want easy listening business is the most underrated em song

@@garyraffa5515 Yeah, I can see that he wouldn't. It's not his type of beat and music, and to be honest, even I don't like it that much. It's... meh. Also can't STAND that accent he's doing there. From Relapse, I think I love "Music Box" most.
Eminem hates relapse cos of his horrorcore and accents but i love it , it has stay wide awake and bagpipes from baghdad on it

Good Job Stevie! thank you for sharing this on youtube too! I won`t hurt I you upload on youtube one of the sets from Patreon, I think it would do good to your yt channel. Feeding the sea content but different... if u get what I mean. Thank you for your work once again!
After Proof (RIP)died, all went south for him.He was heavy on drugs since Encore days(2004),almost overdosed, but came back to what he loved:rap and horror flicks and kinda mixed them.So Relapse came out,he had lots of accents and dark themes. He once said that ,for him,it was like learning to rhyme again😊
Personally i like Relapse🤷🏼♀️
That's the thing with Eminem, even on his commercial shit he never resorts to ABC shit, always top notch flow, multi syllable rhymes and wordplay.
Legendary song. Another great reaction and bar breakdown from Stevie killing it. I hope to see you and Scriptwork do collabs one day. In terms of bar breakdowns I'll say:
1. Stevie Knight.
2. TheThirdErnest
3. Scriptwork
But it's a close call. If they were teams it would only be a single point separating them. They are basically equal. I've heard all their reactions to same songs and I feel Stevie picks up most bars with TheThirdErnest being a bar behind and Scriptwork a few bars behind TheThirdErnest.
I'd add Knox Hill in there too!
@@sehbanaliakbar9882 Knox is a googler, feels like you can see him trying to act like this is first listen/read.
@@CamKurst I can see what you mean.. I guess we can't be sure, but I do agree the other three reactors' reactions feel lot more 'genuine' than his
@@sehbanaliakbar9882 You're right though, we can't be sure. Sometimes I just get that "uncanny" feeling when watching. No disrespect meant though! Still a good place to dive deep into the bars if you like his vids.
I view this song as a motivational track written by Marshall for Marshall, I kinda see it as a reminder to himself that he is the goat. At the time he just came back from a hiatus because of his overdose and released Relapse which basically flopped, he was also coming off drugs at the time so he was rediscovering himself again. That’s why the first verse was all about believing in himself and telling “fuck you” to the haters then the chorus hits and it’s uplifting, keeping his spirit up and allowing himself to continue in the game. That’s my take
Edit: I actually fucked with Relapse, thought it was a great album. I mean it’s fucked up haha a lot of it is just Em messing with the rhyme but the beats go hard. Produced by Dre. You also have gems like Must be the Ganja, Beautiful, My Darling and Careful What You Wish For
You should do do “deja vu” off the relapse album. That song shows what he was dealing with at the time he released that album.
“I’m still waiting for him to say something uplifting” BRUH 😤
there been plenty of us that lost everything ,went to rehab and thawing out to life again were saved by songs like this , people think we took pills to get high and chill, when alot of us took drugs so we didnt feel the pain anymore that we were going thru ,people like eminem and nf have saved lives with there music

Eminem was referring to himself in the whole part where he said "instead of being crowned, you getting capped"
He is humbling himself and reflecting on the negativity he received from Relapse
That was a shot at Wayne for saying he was the king of rap, and saying Em was afraid to get on a song with him when he was getting sober
@@darrenboyd8254 Your comment makes 0 sense. All the lines around that line point to Eminem himself.
He also states he almost made a song dissing Wayne and kanye on that same Recovery album but didn't because "he would've had his ass handed to him"
@@xXOriginalSin yes at that point he would have had his ass handed to him, but Recovery was him coming back and reminding everybody he back...it wasn't a full diss at Wayne it was a jab, infact he fired a few jabs at Wayne on Recovery album and the song Drop the World....Wayne said he was the King of Rap and Em was afraid to get on a song with him when Em was rehab....do u think Em would let that slide?

The line: “I aint playing around, it’s a game called circle and I don’t know how
I’m way too up to back down” is a lot deeper than it looks like.
@Kartikeya Bansal I'm sure there's more to it but my basic understanding is: "playing around" = game called circle (circle is round). So he's not playing it because he doesn't know how. He's not one to just dabble, but goes all in. Which leads into "I'm way too up", since he devotes himself and excels far beyond. Finally "too up" contrasts with "back down" in a directional sense (like a circle). But backing down is also the expression to retreat, which he won't do.
@Kartikeya Bansal Well to start, the game called “circle” he mentions can easily be interpreted as life and the whole “circle of life” thing. He’s basically beating around the bush with describing the phrase “what goes around, comes around” and that phrase is worded like it’s a circular process constantly repeating.
@Kartikeya Bansal You can also search the phrase “a game called circle” on Google and view various interpretations of it’s meaning. No matter which one you find really, Em’s wordplay ties it all in together regardless.
@Kartikeya Bansal Then you have the kids’ game referred to as “The Circle Game” where one person makes their index finger and thumb touch to form a circle, and then has to get another person to look at the circle while it’s being placed below their own waist. If you get them to look at the circle while it’s on your leg or wherever below your waist, you get to punch them twice on the arm or whatever rule variation to that different kids used. This game kinda blew up and became super popular in like Elementary/Grade Schools around the time this song was released.
@Kartikeya Bansal Also with “The Circle Game” and kids, Eminem says that he’s “not playing around” (not playing that kids’ game) then he repeats “It’s a game called circle” (The Circle Game) and then he kinda throws in a corny but sly bar with that game scheme and says “I’m way too up to back down” with like his eyes being directed too high above your waist for you to get him to look down and beat him in the game and get your 2 punches in.
I respect your skill and breaking down bars. I'm glad your getting into em. I love your breakdowns on tech 9, black thought, Busta and other old school too. I watch all your reactions. You point out things I don't catch often. Great job
“A whole little fart scheme” had me cracking up!
Don’t apologize for not appreciating Em before. He has been on a journey and given your perspective, honesty, and open mind you have too. Came at the right time. Stand see that even his darkest mess album was a part of his journey.
The songs you call commercial or whatever are some of my faves.
You HAVE to react to the Hotboxin' interview (Mike Tyson interviewing Em) 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I always thought too beans being another name for pills and gassed up another way to describe being high
