I think the reason why they didn't call it finalfest it's because they're planning to rerun previous splatfest. But im 99% sure this is gonna be the last "new" splatfest
And probably because they’ll do a Splatfest for the 10th anniversary of the series

I hope so. I never got why they didn't do that in the first 2 games. Surely setting it to rerun a random Splatfest every month is not much harder then the random rotations they already have. Ending Splatfest would also take away some of the value of the DLC if we can't actually see the other idols perform anymore

I can imagine a present Splatoon 4 to look like Marina invented a time travel machine that went wrong, and now there's angry humans, angry octolings from the turf war, and some future dudes we have no clue of, and now we just kind of have to fix everything again.

Theories for Splatoon 4 if there is one based on who wins...
Past: a prequel, which will take place during the Great Turf War.
Present: There will expansion of helping the Octolings who are recovering from the events of Octo Expansion and Side Order.
Future: We are going to get some Mad Max type of setting and possibly an introduction of a Mammal society that is discovered.
If squid sisters are past then I’m going with them to win the finial fest bc I want to see them in splat 4. I’ve been playing since 2015 and wow it’s been a long journey with this game

I dont know if it's exactly it, but past looks like Kanji, present looks like Hiragana, and future looks like Katakana
Theories on Splatoon 4: (as the outcome of the last fests always determined the theme of the sequel)
- Past Wins: We get a prequel to the great turf war between Inklings and Octolings. The story mode would continue in the classic way with (this time a young) Kapp'n Cuttlefish, as he grew up during the war. Alternatively, a flashback to the downfall of humanity (rather unlikely, as that was the topic of S3).
- Present wins: The timeline continues ‘normally’, but there will be a time travel aspect. As this is the theme of Pearl and Marina, Marina has probably invented a time travelling machine. There could be a conflict here in that someone from the past/future (possibly humans) accidentally arrives in the present and causes trouble
- Future wins: We dive into the future of the society of Inklings and Octolings. Either a similar conflict arises here as with the downfall of humanity, or something else. Since that's the theme of Deep Cut, they may have a role in the state of that future. Since space travel played a role in the finale of S3, perhaps there will also be a moon colony or something like that, or the fate of the spaceship of the last humans or that of Mr Grizz will be explained in more detail. Since a virtual universe was the theme of Side Order, this is rather unlikely. However, aspects of this theme could be incorporated (such as the futuristic weapons/the design in general)
DLC: There will probably be a time travel aspect that will connect the individual timelines. Since there will be two losers for the first time, a DLC is less predictable and will be a mixture. A time travel machine could get out of control and mix up the individual timelines. This chaos is then to be cleared up, you jump into different sections of time depending on the level and have to fight with differently advanced weaponry.
Overall, however, I would say that time travel will be included in every version. Especially with three options, there won't be an either/or for the story mode and DLC. It's likely that the winner will determine the starting point, but the DLC might already be set, just not the focus yet.
This will determine the theme for Splatoon 4, right? By that account, I want to get retro and go back to the past!

Let's also be aware the finalfest was only the name of the final splatfest in splatoon 2. In splatoon 1, the final splatfest was just the final splatfest. So there's no trend that Nintendo is breaking here, this might be the equivalent of those to splatfests. That being said, finalfest in splatoon 2 was not the final splatfest because they did reruns, and the mario anniversary splatfest, and there's code in this game for inkopolis squares splatoween and frostyfest variants, so there very well could be reruns in this game
