The company just announced 50 stores in the first wave of closures, and two of them are in Arizona (one in Phoenix and one in Tuscon). I wonder if one of those two is the one featured in the video...
Bed Bath & Beyond was a good concept idea during the booming economic times! But, nowadays of saving money on homing furniture or general cleaning products. Bed Bath & Beyond prices are way too expensive for middle class people like myself!
I was 1 of the "poors" in 2017-2018 & was required to move 🏘. My apt was purchased by some huge RE firm based in AL. You'd be surprised how much handy, common stuff a small Dollar Tree 🌳 can offer! BTW, the new owners only lasted a year or so & my old unit, 1 bed 1 bath(utilities included) was shifted 2X 2019-2021.
nah the problem is that the middle class is practically non-existent. All the BBB that are in my areas used to always have a decent amount of shoppers in the early to mid 2000s, even in the early 2010s.
tbh you can buy literally all of this at Target for cheaper, and that's their problem. College kids are going to Target. Middle class adults are shopping at Target. Hell, based on what I've seen even the genuinely rich people...go to Target. The last time I went inside of a BB&B I was looking for syrup pumps because I work at a coffee shop and got to take home some of the leftover holiday syrups. Had that not been a closing shift that I was working that night I would have went to...you guessed it, Target. But BB&B was across the street. And you know what? I actually kind of regret it because those same pumps were cheaper on Amazon and would have been next day delivery.
As someone who works at Target, it is the middle of back to school time and yes, every damn person in my city is in my store haggling prices and making me look into the camera like I'm on the office.
Interesting. As someone who works at Target and enjoys their 10-20% off employee discount, I still think they're generally very overpriced and even the HR told me that when I got hired, justifying it with "we're a one stop shop!!!". I don't go to my local Walmart bc it's kind of trashy but the local to my area Stater Bros and Vons are a lot better with the items they overlap with. If it's stuff like tech they're easily beaten by Best Buy.
@@bambambigelow187 Not only is Walmart cheaper, they carry a much larger variety of products. Commonly at least 3 levels - cheapest Chinese plastic junk, average quality, and premium made in USA. Target doesn't even sell *any* automotive products.
What’s weird is I’ve always seen Bed Bath & Beyond as more of a store for college dorm stuff yet even then this seems EXPENSIVE for just a college place.
yeah, this store was ideal for 2003 when people was still willing to pay more for less, but in 2022, it's now a joke, what kind of bed and bath doesn't sell bath stuff anyways, all i ever see is pillows, pans and and cookware
College dorm in the early 2000's was probably the only time we went and spent a bunch of $ in one trip. But nowadays I probably would just shop online and get it shipped to the dorm direct. Did get some mini lava lamps that I still have to this day.
Exactly why I stopped shopping there- just too expensive! Honestly, I’d rather have a 5$ trash can than a 72$ one. Always love seeing new content. Thanks for the great video!
They have plenty of cheap ones, he's just being hyperbolic and pointing out the most expensive one made out of frickin marble or quartz and is like "whoa, $72 no wonder they're going out of business!"
I work as a supervisor at bbb and I do appreciate you knowing that it’s not the employees fault things are that way! I’m so sorry about your negative experience. I try my best to give everyone a great experience
You can't have Amazon, Super Target, Wal Mart in 2022 then think some trendy, home decor retail place. Those stores were popular 1990s, early 2000s. Not 2022.
Bed Bath and Beyond just makes me uneasy. It looks exactly the same as it did when I was a kid, and it feels like some sort of liminal time portal back to 2002. It's also always 100% empty save for employees, adding to the uneasiness of the whole thing.
Totally agree. That was actually the best part of working there, to me lol. Except when people would load up laundry baskets with stuff (including a Ninja Vacuum one time) and just casually walk out like they owned the world.
@@Hawthorneheightspondue I want to like it. I do like it, but I never go there because I already have everything they sell. I got a mattress cover for my futon. It was the only place that had it. They send me lots of 20-25% off coupons, but I just don’t need another pillow or popcorn popper or shower curtain or anything else they sell. 😦
The metro Orlando FL BB&B on East 50, by the large mall just looks sad 🛒. I went by around May 2022, spoke to a middle age female staff member. She said that Orlando store was "doing well" 😏 not scheduled for shut down. I used to get shower curtains 🛁 kitchen towels, pillows. Now Big Lots, Target seem to have better 🏠 items then BB&B. The store went from filled idles to big gaps, large vacant spaces.
imagine a bath place selling actual bath products, this company could be saved if half their products was bedding, and the other half was bath stuff, all i ever see is pillows and cookware you can get at dollar stores
There is a big difference in quality, though. I bought my last sheet set from BB&B - a Wamsutta set, I believe - because the last 4 sets I bought off Amazon each ripped inside a year. The cookware at BB&B is much better than anything you'll get at a discount store; I've bought both and can attest to it. Now, would I buy a $11 shower curtain liner from BB&B when I can get one at Dollar Tree for $1.25? No. It may be thinner but it's just the liner; not the actual curtain.
Bed Bath & Beyond owns World Market, which I worked for during the pandemic. Our World Market location was shut down at the end of 2020 **allegedly** due to a leasing disagreement over something as silly as the higher ups not liking the shopping center we were in, even though we were usually their highest performing store in the state. We were always busy, always had products in demand, so many people were upset when we closed, yet the Bed Bath & Beyond down the road that's in a true dead shopping center remains open to this day and has hardly any foot traffic. I've heard of so many other World Market locations closing around the same time we did, and it seriously makes no sense to me why they would keep BB&B open and continue to lose money, but close their WM stores which are actually up to date with the times, have interesting good quality products, and a solid customer base. If they were smart they would put their funds and efforts into WM and slowly start to weed out BB&B, but clearly whoever is in charge of making decisions has their head stuck in a bucket or something...truly makes no sense to me. They're going to end up tanking not only the parent company, but all of the other chains they own.
I honestly think BBB needs to reinvent their stores to have more of an experience when you are shopping. They currently charge way too much for vanilla stuff, but WM actually has interesting things and a better shopping environment
There might even be a market for world market type stuff now that pier one is gone. There's just nothing to really truly differentiate bbb from target Walmart Amazon etc. When I redid my moms bedroom after she had surgery in 2019, I did a big wayfair order (on my phone from the hospital late one night) it came in like 20 shipments but never had to step foot in a store.
That’s really sad to hear! I love world market and find their prices very fair. I hate that companies get bought out by larger ones and then they TANK them.
I worked there as a cashier for a few weeks -- that was all that I could take. I can tell you that every transaction will involve a complicated and irritating coupon and a manager literally has to come (after we call them by walkie-talkie) and turn a key on the register in order to take (or not take) said coupon. While the entire line stares daggers and waits for their turn to be denied or approved. The high prices are somewhat intended to factor in the coupons and sales and the eventual move to clearance. Now most of the brands are becoming BBB store owned brands in order to manage costs. Just shop the clearance section, if at all.
@@gordontaylor2815 Yes, thanks. It was too horrible. I also had to clean both bathrooms, the break room, take out the trash and sweep and mop the floors every shift because they don't employ cleaners!
Every time I’ve been to a BB&B in the past I’ve kinda had that striking feeling of “Most of this stuff I’d never want and the stuff I would I could pretty much get at Target and cheaper, why am I here?”
Man, I used to work at BBB, and I really wanted to agree with customers when they said stuff like this. I didn’t want to lose my job. You are definitely right about the prices being too high.
A nice critical look at the mess Bed Bath & Beyond has become, plus I enjoyed the bonus room makeover bit too. 👍 Good stuff! That posh marble garbage receptacle has me convinced that BB&B doesn’t really have a clear idea of who their target demographic would be. 😂
I haven't been to a BBB in over 20 years and even back then it was expensive. I furnished my apartment I moved into 4 years ago with things from Boscov's, Big Lots, and Ollie's. Many people are now going to Homegoods, TJ Maxx, along with the standbys Walmart, Target, and Amazon. Lol at the Poopouri, I have some in my bathroom too.
The thing about BB&B (and similar stores) is they aren’t inspiring at all. If their prices were at least competitive, they wouldn’t suffer. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. Look at IKEA, people go there for the experience, to hang out, and get inspired from their many displays and showrooms. This is what stores SHOULD look like, if they want to compete against online shopping.
My local Bed Bath & Beyond added a huge cosmetics and health/ beauty department a few years ago. Honestly the pricing there is pretty comparable to target but I’ve literally never seen anyone in that department, and it’s stuff everyone buys on a regular basis. Target seems to be the go to store for furnishing a dorm or first apartment, and that’s a niche BBB could have definitely captured if they tried.
BBB was by far my favorite retail store I've ever worked for. They paid very well for full time work and had great benefits and nice vacation time. They spent a lot of time teaching the employees product knowledge. Odd enough I actually enjoyed those sales roleplaying games they used to make us do.
I can't imagine shopping at Bed, Bath and Beyond unless there was a wild sale going. Like I hate saying "I'll just buy it on Amazon" but you get a thousand times the selection and much better prices. The prices of trash cans in general always stuns me. It's a container I'm putting my trash! I want to pay no money for this! lmao. The quartz roller is mostly bull...it can feel nice and there's some minor benefits to massaging your skin but I'm sure whatever quartz roller they had there was 5x more expensive than it should be. You can get really cheap jade/quartz rollers, it's nice to have for skin care (you can use it cool down, put on lotions, just give yourself a massage, etc) but not worth paying more than $15 for.
When I was 8 I used to go to bed bath and beyond with my dad, they had a section with a bunch of different curtains for sale and I would hide in them and have my dad look for me. We never actually bought anything other than candy though because of how expensive it was. I visited the same bed bath and beyond a couple weeks ago and found it closed down. I put my phone against the window to take a picture and get a look inside. It was weird seeing it all run down and empty... it definitely brought back a lot of bittersweet memories.
If only they'd offered more in the Beyond section... $70???? Good on you for leaving it there. VERY quack. FDA wouldn't endorse that with a 39-and-1/2 foot pole. Another great video! Keep them coming.
I've only used BB&B recently for buying sheets (they always have them on sale), and very particular cocktail glassware. I like 'em but I'll be shocked if they're around in 2024 at this rate.
Thanks for the video!! 😊 As a BBB employee. I understand. The new private label persona essentially ruined the whole essence of the store. So much so that only two years after “making” these labels…we are now starting to discontinue them 😳😨 Our products have gone WAY downhill and we either have things too cheap or extremely expensive: no middle ground :/ And damaged products is becoming a MUCH bigger problem. You outlined some common problems well. Our bath section is very sub par right now…we are selling a lot of comforters and smaller baking/kitchen supplies. And yes…hours are HORRIBLE right now I can attest 🫣😐 I’d be looking for a new job…but I might be moving soon anyways so things are in limbo right now but yeah the hours are putrid (actually looked fairly neat compared to my mess!) Anyways good video and I’m here for questions/comments :)
I think at this point, they should make their stores way smaller and be either a high end store for boujee people or offer only more affordable items. They’re kind of in the middle and it’s isolating both markets.
I'm honestly in love with that overpriced glass and stone trash can too. It needs to go on sale immediately. Love what you did with the bathroom, I was rooting for the Link picture to make it in there when I first saw it sitting outside 🤣
I worked in a Belk’s home department in the 90’s. I loathed it. The merchandise is nearly impossible to make look tidy, and it only takes one of those “has to touch everything” people to ruin hours of work. Entire shifts would pass without a paying customer, while you got further and further behind on your quota. That said, I enjoyed BB&B for the most part, except that they tended to have way too much As Seen on TV stuff.
Another well documented video from you! Thanks- keep it rolling...BBB relied on Mckinsey consultant types for too long while ignoring real shoppers. BBB focused too much on the Beyond! Not enough Bed & Bath! I smell Sears.
For me, BB&B falls into the category of stores I've seen around for ages, but have no recollection of setting foot inside. Like, they just exist as backdrops on highways for me, and nothing more.
Funny you mentioned target, Those shelving units and a lot of their chairs that are supposedly their brand look exactly like targets brand. A lot of the stuff that you bought also looks like stuff from target for less than quarter of the price. As for that ultrasonic scrubber I can speak to you from experience. They are good for doing extractions without tearing your face up and also exfoliate your skin in a non-harsh way
They probably are, there are a number of cheap white label manufacturers that make things like lamps, tv stands, bookshelves that are sold at big box stores for them to put their own label on it and sell it (and make) for relatively low prices.
I’m old enough to remember them fighting it out with Linens-N-Things back in the 90s. I gave up on them when I went in on a Sunday and could not find a kitchen garbage can or a dish drying rack. All their products were just randomly thrown up on the shelves like the dollar store. Shame. Feel bad for their employees.
My mom used to work at one of the NY based stores, she was part of the restocking team mostly. Told me a few stories of injuries she's gotten. One involved a concussion complete with a cut on her forehead. It probably wasn't the fault of the store being poorly done or anything but it definitely was quite the accident.
Also if you want wall art a thrift store is your best bet. You can often find original paintings just kinda thrown around at goodwill and savers, sometimes even near stuff by local artists.
Goodwills in my area are sadly going up on things and I quit shopping at them when I seen they wanted over 100 bucks for a freaking Ford Record Player.
@@charliemartin-k7m mine over charges for record players too :/. The resurgence of vinyl + people overbidding at shopgoodwill on record players = goodwill now thinks that all record players are worth big bucks
@@charliemartin-k7m Goodwill is a corporation, not a thrift store. They understood people were reselling their stuff on Poshmark and are instead deciding to sell at Poshmark prices, all the while being a garbage company. They realized thrifting is trendy now so they're capitalizing on it instead of doing what they set out to do: provide jobs to traditionally unemployable people with disabilities or other obstacles while providing the community with drastically-reduced prices on used goods.
I love your channel, your videos are always really relaxing, and whenever you go to malls you always point out all of the things i wanna hear more about. Never once when watching one of your videos have i said "wait wait, go back! you didnt talk about/show that thing!" I showed your channel to my friend the other day and he enjoyed it too.
I _like_ Bed Bath and Beyond, but it’s a bit oversized for what it’s worth. Like the amount of things sold could be displayed in 3/4ths the space, or less. Same with BuyBuy Baby, which is just BB&B but with baby stuff.
The whole fun of Bed Bath and Beyond was that it was crammed with stuff floor to ceiling and you had to dodge people's carts to get your own cart through. Now it looks like a going out of business sale. Michael's craft stores and Container Store are doing the same.
I used to work for Bed Bath years ago and while it wasn't amazing, I've certainly had worse jobs. I still have a couple friends that work there as a second job and they say it's become nearly intolerable. It's kinda sad to see it slowly dying.
In the five years I have been in my house, I have only purchased three items from BB&B: a soap dispenser for my master bathroom shortly after I moved in 2017, a Kitchenaid stand mixer in 2019 because I got a huge discount from joining their little membership thing, and recently a cheap nonstick pot. They are a totally nonessential store these days.
I've never been into a bed bath and beyond before. Normally I get my bath stuff from Ross. I do find it funny that bb&b is having money problems and there answer is more expensive items that no one can afford.
Only problem with towels at Ross is cant get matching ones in different sizes many times. Bbb is just an extra stop I'd rather skip most times when most likely gonna walk out not buying anything. Or heck I once went to look for a hairdryer for my sister, ended up buying one from Amazon while inside BBB. Stores like bbb and best buy have definitely struggled with adapting to the computer in our pockets decade.
I went to my local Bed Bath & Beyond recently, I used to have 3 near me, but 2 have closed. I hadn’t been there in about two years, and similar to your experience I noticed that my store had downsized, and had less merchandise. (They had arranged the shelfs in the center to close off the center of the store.) Although I bought something, I thought that the store had become less organized, and many of the service offices, such as the key center, or registry office had closed. I used to enjoy shopping Bed Bath & Beyond, so I hope that they can find a company solution soon. By the way my remaining Bed, Bath, and Beyond is in a former Linens n’ Things, as was one of the other ones what closed. Thanks for the video, and good luck with the new home!
2:42 I'm one of those people that buy stuff like this 🙃Bed Bath & Beyond use to be a good place for decorative brick a brack back in the day but not anymore. Those LED candles you saw can be found at Walmart every day for about $25 or less. (That's inflated California pricing as well) LED Fireplaces that actually put out heat can be found $75 online at Amazon without much effort (so for a little more you have a functional decoration). The real kick in the pants is that most ailing mall department stores sell the same type of decorative bath / bedding items for cheaper. I wouldn't be surprised if a super fancy trash can you were looking at could be found at a nearby dying / dead mall for $50. The last time anyone cared about BB&B was when they would stack that 20% off coupon you got with portable air conditioners they use to stock in the stores (not sure they still have those). Those actually work out to be decent deals, but I'm not sure if they've jacked up the prices. I haven't been in a store over a decade now, so thanks for the nostalgia trip!
They inherited a concept that was done better by Linen’s n Things. Their stores have remained nearly identical for 25 years. Who precisely does this cater to? You have to have a mix of fashion for apartment renting younger crowds. A lot of younger people are taking to cooking at home so demos of cookware and appliances would generate some life. Otherwise you’re walking around a dead white box that Homeplace and such were and they failed. The white clinical look does no favors, it doesn’t feel homey.
Linens n' Things used to be great. Anna's Linens was great too, they took up the 'medium size' footprint that most Dollar Stores take up, and they carried a lot of Bed/Bath/Decor stuff BB*B has, but at actually affordable prices. They had kind of a Tuesday Morning feel too. The Anna's Linens that was in a shopping center I used to work was always busy and seemed to be a great tenant, but the company went belly-up.
At my local BB&B in NJ, they had the bright idea of devoting a decent amount of floor space to "gourmet" and specialty foods. They even installed reefer and freezer units. I think they were trying to compete with Trader Joe's but it was a complete bust. Who the hell thinks of buying a $15 bottle of Greek olives when you go pick up a toilet paper holder? Dumb decision from the start.
That was probably a World Market inside the bb&b. The bb&b I used to go to had a world market inside too. I don’t trust the food in those type of places though, same with the food in Marshall’s and Winners/TJ Max.
Funny anecdote: Back when I was going into work more often, I'd stop at a grocery store that was right next to a BB&B. This was before COVID, though, and the last I checked, the BB&B was gone...and replaced with a Target. Pentagon Row, Arlington, VA if you're curious.
I could be mistaken, but I think that the blue curtains are covering up overstock. Great video👍. If this company is buying back stock instead of investing in their stores and employees, then they only have themselves to blame for failure.
I went into the Bed, Bath & Beyond in Pleasant Hill, Ca. where I used to shop before the pandemic. It took me 30 minutes to find the giant bath towels I used to buy for $20 which are now $30. I will look on line or on Amazon. I got NO help from any employee.
Its odd i never shop at bed bath and beyond. I always thought of this brand as the “mom bath store for 20% off coupons” 🙃 Target has alot more industrial modern bath and furniture equipment at cheaper prices. Amazon helps fill in the gaps that target does not offer.
That poor “Good Times Ahead” bag around 11:11 while reaffirming the store is done for. Getting Kmart vibes from the overspacing of some of the merchandise.
There business model is completely based on that 20% off coupon. The idea is that if they suck you in for one thing at 20% off and you buy anything else (which is of course is over priced) they win. It's a strategy WalMart uses too. They draw you into an isle with a genuinely good price on a TV perhaps but if you look further and buy something you like better, they've got you. It's all really a new twist on the old "loss leader" game. But consumers are smarter than they used to be.
if you need anything else for your apartment that you dont want to thrift - check out a burlington or home goods. They have the best prices in my opinion. Burlington is usually a few dollars cheaper. I'm an avid thrifter but those places are my go-to in a need home stuff in a pinch.
The way to shop at BBB was with the coupons they would regularly send out. Many times we would buy mainly kitchen items that would total out to $75+ but with coupons was around $25-30. I am going to miss the store here that just closed a couple months ago.
10:40 The ultrasonic scrubber is used to clean out your pores. I have visible pores, and the person who does my facial uses that on me. It works to reduce the appearance but it's not super pleasant.
BB&B is the epitome of "look at it in the store and then buy it from Amazon on your phone on the way home". Also, if for some reason the college dorm industrial complex collapses, they are screwed.
That collapse is pretty unlikely for ASU (closest university to the RA host), but a person can dream. (ASU has required all freshmen, during that year, to live in on-campus dorms for over a decade. And once a teenager has left the nest for a year, they are unlikely to want to return.)
The diploma mills have been undergoing an involuntary weight loss plan since late 2008. Trade schools are becoming popular again and many young people have been shunning worthless degree progs like liberal arts.
Mine added a section filled with shampoo and drugstore stuff a few years ago. I thought they all did this but I didn't see it in this video. I only stop in to check out clearance and the seasonal clearance stuff.
The soap dispenser marked as 84.99 is actually supposed to be a wastebasket. They just put the soap dispenser to make the shelf look full. They're having so much trouble getting stock in that the only way to make a shelf look full is by stretching the hell out of it
Those prices! If I have money to blow I’ll go to Crate & Barrel. About 3 years ago they got stingy with their coupons, that’s when I started looking elsewhere.
Your videos are more entertaining than the junk on HGTV. As for Bed Bath & Beyond, it's too bad their stores are so empty. They may end up going the way of Linens N' Things.
I haven’t been to my local Bed Bath & Beyond in a long time. The shopping center it’s in is becoming like a mall now with Target, Old Navy, Best Buy, Michael’s, Dollar Tree, Dick’s, Books A Million, and Ulta. To me this store reminds me of the bedding section of an old Montgomery Wards or Sears. Lol.
Just came back from BBBy this Saturday evening, and it was at 30% off at mine here in NC. Lots of shoppers but few items in the carts. Store still very stocked with so much inventory, it was as if the store just started their sale. Less than 3 weeks for all stores to close down. I remember when the lines were long at the checkout back in the day. I bought consumable items, like men's razors, hair color, etc. Bottled items were the merchandise selling the most, it seemed. Back at Easter, I went to Tuesday Morning at the last of its sale and very few items were on the shelves a week before closing. Thank you for the heads up about TM and BBBy.
I shop at Chelsea, Manhattan flagship. The store you show is not what this is anymore. Some people around here were big spenders and the old chock-full store drew in crowds much of the time. Since the full remake of the store, reopened July 22 2021 I can't get items I really need. No more little impulse items. I don't go in to browse anymore. I've left empty-handed 50 pct., of times I've gone in. After the reopening still during C-V I though they were closing permanently when stock was being removed, sections cleared. They were closed for many months for a full store redo. Wide open spaces, 'curated' displays (but nowhere near as upscale as a Williams Sonoma shop) many store windows exposed to sales floor and one added entry. Low displays and shelves through out. Nespresso and Soda Stream staffed - sampling sales counter. BUT. no more large foods and treats section. No more picture frames (even the poor remnant that had existed.) No more window shades/ shades cut. No more china and crystal giftware. No more seasonal. A tiny Health & Beauty section. They reduced variety of everything, (yes I do mean also small appliances and cookware). No more sit down sandwiches etc. cate. Sheets, bedding etc. got too expensive; designers and some names you could find on Madison Ave. Self-service checkout more than staff registers. BB&B is nearly dead to me. I'm not the only one. I did not even use the coupons, am not extravagant, just happy to get the stuff - back then.
Ive always liked going in the store but if the prices are too much then I just go somewhere else,Walmart,Target,Ikea,Ross,Marshalls,TJ Maxx.Theres a reason those places are packed and Bed Bath and Beyond is empty, people have figured it out by now.Its a nice store, its not like K Mart but I think it had its time to figure out a better pricing model and it never got done,I think its time has passed.
I haven't said this before but I really love your videos. Your voice, music and visuals are all so therapeutic to me and as a non American I've learned a lot from you lol
The BB&B west of Reading, PA is still open, but I haven't gone there for a while. These days, I tend to shop online for US-made products when I can find them.
Tempe market place has a Target, Marshall’s, Ross, Nordstrom rack and some other stores. Not too far away you have that little shopping center on Dobson that has a bed bath and beyond and it’s always dead. The Marshalls that was actually by the BB&B moved to Tempe market place because there is just more foot traffic. There stuff is just way too expensive, even on sale, plus it always looks so out of date. You should check out the container store in Phoenix on camelback and 16th st. I believe.
There’s a huge corporate office in my town. They bought out buildings around them just to demolish so that there would be employee parking a few yrs ago. Now they consolidated the offices and I rarely see the parking lots filled
Bed Bath & Beyond just announced they're closing 150 stores and laying off 20% of their staff. 150 stores is about 14% of #BBBY stores.
And their CFO just jumped out of a window to his death in NYC!!
The company just announced 50 stores in the first wave of closures, and two of them are in Arizona (one in Phoenix and one in Tuscon). I wonder if one of those two is the one featured in the video...

@@mmoarchives2542 still smells like 2003
College dorm in the early 2000's was probably the only time we went and spent a bunch of $ in one trip. But nowadays I probably would just shop online and get it shipped to the dorm direct. Did get some mini lava lamps that I still have to this day.
Definitely was like that before- I feel like target has the hold on that market now
I live in a college town, so I thought our local BB&B was just catering to the location. Guess not.
Exactly why I stopped shopping there- just too expensive! Honestly, I’d rather have a 5$ trash can than a 72$ one. Always love seeing new content. Thanks for the great video!
Ill keep my 1 dollar 5 gallon Kmart Bucket as a trash can, I would never pay 72 bucks for a trash can.
They have plenty of cheap ones, he's just being hyperbolic and pointing out the most expensive one made out of frickin marble or quartz and is like "whoa, $72 no wonder they're going out of business!"
You are welcome Maca!

Kohl's as well
Also millennials can’t afford houses so they have no reason to go to that store

Last month the CEO of Bed, Bath & Beyond left the company. The problem with these stores is that they have too much stuff and it is too expensive

There was a time, when they sold All Clad and other top end stuff. Guess not these days.
Bed bath and beyond is one of those stores where you find items on the shelf that haven’t been even touched in like a year
Yes! BB&B was hip, 2000s but retail-spending in the 2020s is vastly different.
I loved “shopping” with you and seeing your new bathroom! Please do more of these!
imagine a bath place selling actual bath products, this company could be saved if half their products was bedding, and the other half was bath stuff, all i ever see is pillows and cookware you can get at dollar stores
There is plenty of bath stuff, believe me. They call it "soft side" (of the store). "Hard side" is cookware, appliances, kitchen, etc. Bleh.
Leveraged Buyout.
Wow my world market closed around then too. I had no idea they were owned by the same company because we had a shopping center with both in it
That’s really sad to hear!
Bed Bath and Beyond seems to be a slowly sinking ship. It's a good thing you didn't stick around too long...
@@gordontaylor2815 Yes, thanks. It was too horrible. I also had to clean both bathrooms, the break room, take out the trash and sweep and mop the floors every shift because they don't employ cleaners!

Giving someone a ramen gift set is more of an insult than a kind gesture.
"I don't want to bore you with the shopping at Target"

A nice critical look at the mess Bed Bath & Beyond has become, plus I enjoyed the bonus room makeover bit too. 👍 Good stuff!
That posh marble garbage receptacle has me convinced that BB&B doesn’t really have a clear idea of who their target demographic would be. 😂
Who would even WANT a marble garbage can in the first place, Donald Trump?
#only_half_serious :)
Whenever I get coupons from BB&B, they have a mile long list of brands that aren’t applicable, so essentially the coupon is only good for crap.
This is one store I can honestly say I have never donned the doorstep of and from the looks of it, not missing much.
Fun fact : They’ll take those 20% off coupons regardless of how expired they are.

The minute they stopped having us train those classes, I should have known something was up.
Yup...Another future victim of the 'Retail Apocalypse'.

As a BBB employee. I understand. The new private label persona essentially ruined the whole essence of the store. So much so that only two years after “making” these labels…we are now starting to discontinue them 😳😨
Our products have gone WAY downhill and we either have things too cheap or extremely expensive: no middle ground :/ And damaged products is becoming a MUCH bigger problem.
You outlined some common problems well. Our bath section is very sub par right now…we are selling a lot of comforters and smaller baking/kitchen supplies.
And yes…hours are HORRIBLE right now I can attest 🫣😐 I’d be looking for a new job…but I might be moving soon anyways so things are in limbo right now but yeah the hours are putrid (actually looked fairly neat compared to my mess!)
Anyways good video and I’m here for questions/comments :)
I think at this point, they should make their stores way smaller and be either a high end store for boujee people or offer only more affordable items. They’re kind of in the middle and it’s isolating both markets.
That's a smart move, smaller chains-brands should get 1 huge location then sell 🛒 in a co op type space. Share the costs, let customers roam-shop.
That quartz face thing is quack medicine. Same with jade rollers and other junk like that. The dermabrasion stuff actually does something at least lol

That "manscap..." part was both hilarious and scary
For me, BB&B falls into the category of stores I've seen around for ages, but have no recollection of setting foot inside. Like, they just exist as backdrops on highways for me, and nothing more.
The npc of stores
Yes, it's bizarre to drive along highways or urban-suburban spots with retail chains that drift away.
Never thought I’d see the day the company I work for is featured on this channel but that day has come. Very interesting!
Also if you want wall art a thrift store is your best bet. You can often find original paintings just kinda thrown around at goodwill and savers, sometimes even near stuff by local artists.

I _like_ Bed Bath and Beyond, but it’s a bit oversized for what it’s worth. Like the amount of things sold could be displayed in 3/4ths the space, or less. Same with BuyBuy Baby, which is just BB&B but with baby stuff.
I went to one several years ago and I was shocked at how expensive everything was. All I ever bought there were some higher-quality pillows.
5:00 my friend used to have a sign that read "no ball games" above his bed and "dumping strictly forbided" above his toilet :D
The Link picture is perfect, especially with those eyes giving anyone looking in a glare.
I agree, I miss Linen’s n Things.
My old BBB used to have a big room of candles. way too many candles.

That Bed Bath and Beyond would make a great Spirit Halloween. I also love the Link art in the bathroom, you should keep it lol.
$70 for a rug is highway robbery. I shit on Walmart but christ I would rather go to a Walmart if I had a choice between the two
I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. Incredibly over-priced in Canada too.
Ross and tj Maxx would be a better to look for bathroom decor
I wouldn't even stop there driving past on my way to Target. And I might next time to see what's on clearance
if you need anything else for your apartment that you dont want to thrift - check out a burlington or home goods.
I miss the one I worked for.
10:40 The ultrasonic scrubber is used to clean out your pores. I have visible pores, and the person who does my facial uses that on me. It works to reduce the appearance but it's not super pleasant.

In Australia we call it Bed Bath and Table, down here we don’t like uncertainty of what’s in the “Beyond”
BB&B is the epitome of "look at it in the store and then buy it from Amazon on your phone on the way home".
Also, if for some reason the college dorm industrial complex collapses, they are screwed.

Those prices are absolutely insane
I went to target yesterday and the store was packed. At 8pm on a Friday! No wonder BBB is struggling.
I totally agree with your assessment 👏. They really have become cheep and generic.
I haven't said this before but I really love your videos. Your voice, music and visuals are all so therapeutic to me and as a non American I've learned a lot from you lol
The marketing on the shelf at Target, perfect for the bedroom, living room, bath and beyond, lol shots fired
The BB&B west of Reading, PA is still open, but I haven't gone there for a while. These days, I tend to shop online for US-made products when I can find them.
the BBB by me is literally attached to a Target in a small strip mall. How it has managed to stay open all these years is beyond me
I do love walking through BBB, to get ideas for stuff that I'll buy for much less elsewhere. Thanks for the tour tho, it was fun.
Hey, not sure if there are other “retail archeology” channels, but saw your stuff on a bright sun films doc on this store, congratulations man.
Oh good. I'm not the only one with a framed picture of Hyrule's hunkiest Hylian outside my bathroom.
They're outrageously expensive!! Went for a shower curtain, it was $80 lol! Ended up with a good one from the dollar store.
I believe.
That link picture in your bathroom is so random lol. Enjoying the content, very pleasant.
There’s a huge corporate office in my town. They bought out buildings around them just to demolish so that there would be employee parking a few yrs ago. Now they consolidated the offices and I rarely see the parking lots filled
I got a good laugh out of the EAT above the toilet. I now have an idea.
