If this guy decorates the theater and plaza like this for the holidays, I can imagine his house looks pretty awesome too.
I saw something about him one time and they interviewed him at his house and his house is just like this. Full of toys and other fun things as well as nostalgic items and decor. He's a very fun loving guy and also very generous.
Nah, he does no decorations and beats his wife.
The fact the owner takes good care of the lights and the overall plaza shows what a good person they probably are
that is hands down the coolest movie theater I have ever seen, it really brings back 90's movie theater vibes. So cool.
After having been closed for so long due to C19, I was glad to see them go all out this year for Christmas.
Holy crap! That movie theater is the coolest theater I have seen in decades, if not ever. What a freaking treasure.
I had a very nice experience from Mr Pollack when I was in high school, I had my prom dinner at that vincintorios restaurant in that shopping mall while he was also dinning there and he paid for my whole party’s meal! Nice guy
I miss little theaters like this that were personally owned. This is so cool. I hope he keeps it like this forever!
The dwarf who played on Austin Powers at 4:25 , Vern I think, passed away a few years ago. He had his own youtube channel and was running a garage sale out of his home. Not sure how he died but he was pretty cool.
I grew up in the neighborhood behind this strip mall in the 80's when I was going to Corona Del Sol High School. Loved this place.
A few years ago, he had many of these decorations setup around his real estate holding company on Alma School and Baseline road. I think it was creating too much traffic in his small parking lot, so they decided to move a lot of it to this plaza. He owns a lot of the real estate for these strip malls around the valley. He's a good guy and likes to have fun.
Thanks for doing these videos! If you ever get a break, I'd love to take you to a movie here in the future as a thank you for all you do!
We need more places like this--with owners that have a passion and care for their business.
If I had a local movie theater like that, I would be sure to buy plenty of concessions and play the games as much as possible to make sure it stays in business, because theater owners make almost no money from ticket sales.
You can feel the love in that theater. I'm so impressed with all the stuff in there! The lights outside were great, too. Lately, it feels like people don't decorate or care as much about Christmas, so this was nice to see.
Just WOW !! Impressive !! I kinda miss when Theatres looked like that, just... WOW !!
When I lived in Phoenix, I went to Tempe a lot and I don't remember this strip mall.
5:02 The Donald, Huey, and Mickey statues are from the Disney Store!! I miss seeing statues like that throughout a store.
Man, this theater looks so awesome!! I agree: neon lights in a movie theater compliments the Art Deco teeming 100%
What a treat! It must be amazing to see the theatre and mall in person.
The main office for Pollack Real Estate Investments has been just east of Alma School and on Baseline Road for years and their building was decked out in so many xmas lights. I don't know if they still do that but it was a lot more then you see for that Pollack theater complex.
I really like this decoration! So full of lights!
Thank you for uploading, you help me get through it. Words could never do me justice
State Farm AND Allstate offices in the same strip mall?! Wonder if they have the lamest rumbles when no is looking?
Pollack Cinemas is my favorite theater in the valley
Here in Windsor (Ontario), we had a small theatre called Forest Glade Cinema, and the Pollack gave me some serious vibes of the Forest Glade. Thank you as always.
Love the Pink Neon and Mortal Kombat 4 cabinet! MK4 is my favorite MK game
Thank you for the lovely light show, and loved seeing such a dope theater. Happy holidays!!
If this guys shopping mall looks this nice,
I can imagine what his house looks like.
Beautiful place, thank you for sharing!
Michael Pollack was a dirty word for many Houstonians in the 80s. He infamously bought out apartment complexes that were failing and tried to turn them around by offering outrageous deals, which didn't work. By the end of the decade, he was seen as somewhat of a slumlord who made goofy commercials (look up Colonial House Apts). I knew he had moved to AZ and seemed to have a better reputation out there; glad to see the Cinema still has those retro vibes.
Very nice and nostalgic 👌 I haven't been to
a movie at the theater 🎥 for years. Ray
If I'm ever in the area I'd love to see that theater.
I know it's late but I hope you had a wonderful Christmas time Mr. Eric. I'm currently binging several episodes of this show I've missed & I loved this episode in particular. I haven't seen any small movie theaters like this in years & it's amazing to see that this one is still operating & that it even serves as a kind of cinema museum & arcade. I look forward to seeing what you release next but I'm glad I finally had time to see this amazing light display.
Love all the unique content your channel provides thank you for all your hard work thank you guys.😊😄😃
Comfy.
Funny right when I was thinking to myself I wish that was Mortal Kombat 2 instead of 4, you mentioned it immediately after.
I would love to visit this movie theater 📽
This dudes business offices on Baseline and Alma School used to be bonkers! Haven't seem them recently, though.
Our movie theatres have arcades (NB Canada). I assumed all cinemas had them!
Thank You.
I am surprised you didnt mention that Pollack Theater is a budget one showing movies that are a few weeks after release with tickets about $3 to $3.50 I think?
I hope you have a Wonderful Christmas and a prosperous New Year - as for 2023, I'm not going anywhere and plan to keep subscribed so that I get notified of all your vids! Cheers! ♥
Cool vid! Next time close it with a walk thru from buying ticket, hitting up snacks and heading to seat for a full experience.
from chandler az. love content
The theater is what we used to call a "dollar" or sub-run theater. It's playing titles from last summer and early fall. Likely charging more than a dollar, obviously. Very few sub-runs left.
And if that is actual neon, and not the LED version, this is more costly to maintain now as fewer and fewer companies and technicians can or will work on neon now. Even Vegas is starting to phase neon out, from what I understand.
In Colchester Connecticut, they have Gallery, a 6plex that's very retro. It's in the middle of nowhere, not nearby anything, adding to the uniqueness. No neon and not nearly as nice as the one featured, but it's a step back in time. It has some 5 or so arcades and throwback decorations. Where I live in Florida, we have NO unique theaters, it's all AMC / Cinemark chains. Before visiting CT, I didn't even know independent unique theaters still existed. I felt like we were going in to see Back to the Future ( in 1985) lol. I hadn't been to a drive-in either, since the 80s. We went to Mansfield drive-in, which totally felt like a 60s drive-in time machine. They still have the speakers you can hook on your window
that was lovely
That movie theater is awesome, thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas
Thanks! I appreciate the video, had surgery this month and I'm super grateful this holiday season!!!
This was wonderful. Thanks for the video. Happy Holidays, everybody. 🎅
awesome !
I’m glad you’re still putting out videos. I’ve enjoyed your voice and commentary in your videos for a long time. Good to hear you plan on continuing into 2023!
Awesome video
So beautiful! I've never seen a mall decorated like that. Thanks for sharing.
Great stuff as usual. Amazing movie theater!
The mannequins of the movie characters is amazing! Love your content Retail Archeology
Great video and happy anniversary, congratulations on 6 years. I really enjoy your videos. This one brought back a lot nostalgia.
I’d like to see you go back and visit the malls that have been torn down (Metro, PV) and the malls that are still standing to see how they are doing.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 😊
I live behind there a few blocks
I'm just here to say that I love all your videos. I'll be here for the new style stuff as well. One of my favorite videos that wasn't strictly about retail was then you visited that small town that was an old artists enclave. You always find neat things like that. Cheers and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
1:20 I uploaded that ad.
Pure awesomeness!!!
Here's to another 6 years of watching malls die
Awesome lights display, really love the retro stuff. Merry Christmas to all from the UK :)
What's the song during the silent segment? (Sorry if it was put up somewhere, I was looking through the video and didn't see it)
Oh my goodness, it’s great seeing you make another Mall-related Video. I’ve been making walkthrough videos as of late and it’s been a lot of fun to make. Keep up the good work.
hey can you head back to foothills mall its kinda scarry
You know you have retro on the brain when you see think, "chess king? These still exist?" Only to realize no. It's chess academy. 😄 whoops.
actually early to a video for once!
7:49 Um.
Why are there so many strippers hanging from the ceiling?
I hope Mr. Pollack has hundreds of appreciative patrons and makes tons of money because he goes all out and it's very obvious that he's passionate about it.
Mr. Pollack is Doing just fine. Don’t cry for him, Argentina.
I LOVE little movie theaters like this. Reminds me of the ones that I used to go to as a kid. So much brightness and nostalgia! Nowadays it feels like there's nothing but megaplexes.
I hope that smaller neighborhood movie houses can make a comeback someday.
As a former theater employee, this gave me all the feels. We had the classic arcade games and you don't see that anymore.
My brother works for one of the big companies and he's fighting to get the theater some character. It is the nice thing about having someone independent run the place. It'd be neat if you got a chance to talk to him. Is the theater upgraded or are the actual theaters like out of the 80s?
The theaters have been upgraded with modern sound and projectors I believe.
It's sad how post-pandemic the big guys really tightened the leash. Our local "art house" run by them used to be able to choose their trailers and such. Now the chain's corporate office decides all of it. (Friendly, over sharing employees, obviously, hee hee)
As usual, your videos are more entertaining than a lot of stuff you'd see on regular television.
Pollack owns a town of strip malls in the Phoenix area. This place is awesome to see movies you didn't want to pay full price for when they were released.
*Incredible Christmas light display!*
Thank you Mr. Pollack!
🎄🌟✝
The Pink Neon reminds me of Video Paradise. Still waiting for you to do a video on that place! ;)
This is great and reminds me of when I was younger and it felt like more places went full Christmas this time of year. Nowadays it feels like the urge to decorate for the holidays.
nice clean floors in that theater.. well done!
Love me a good old school Christmas light display. Not an inflatable in sight.
Thanks so much for covering this place, and wishing you and yours a great holiday season. I saw that they are running older movies, but WOW - their prices are amazing. Will definitely go on my next AZ trip!
That strip plaza seems to have a pretty good occupancy rate; are the businesses there benefitting from being near the movie theater?
Most of the centers he owns have occupancy like that. How he does that I have no idea.
That theater kicks ass
Amazing, this video really makes me miss Phoenix. Happy holidays.🎄
Loved the video Merry Christmas everyone.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I can't wait to see what you do in 2023. This was the 1st video I watched since my new 4k tv got here. Holy crap that theater looked incredible on this tv! I can't imagine what it looks like in person!
I love that place, I'm so glad it is back.
I just wanted to say that you have one of the most creative channels I watch, so I’m hype for your new video ideas. Hope you and your family have a lovely holiday!
Awesome! Love the movie theater.
gotta say that's a sweet arcade! definitely miss those days of playing a couple games before movie time. also hoping someone sent 'daily mk4' on twitter that shot of quan-chi, haha. the decor is pretty sweet too, not gonna lie. the rest of the strip mall's lights display were really cool as well.
@Retail Archaeology
*Merry Christmas to you and your entire family, and all your subscribers!*
✝🌟
Not much of sit-down theater person. But I'm willing to go catch a flick at this picture house!!
Thats a neat place. I like it. Anything that opened in the late 80s is unique. Here in Chattanooga our giant mall Hamilton Place Mall opened in late 87 too and was filled with pink and blue neon lighting. I hated when they renovated it and remived it all. Wish it was left as a time capsule of the time it was new. At least uts still popular and not a dead mall.
It's pretty cool that the cinema is clad in the pink neon, movie memorabilia, and even classic arcade games. The only cinema that I know of might have arcade games would be Regal Cinema 16 at Treasure Coast Square Mall, but it's mostly some of the lame driving games, skill cranes, and things like that. Really love the Christmas decorations all over the shopping center. Looks much better in comparison to what we've been used to recently. I was going to wrap some Christmas lights around two of the oak trees in my front yard, but there have been squirrels living in them and they might destroy them. You know, chewing on them (a la National Lampoons Christmas Vacation) or just knocking them down at least.
I lived in Tempe area most my adult life. Worked there. Shopped there. Had 2 homes there. Every holiday season we would go by the theater and Pollack investment main office on baseline road. Michael Pollack owns so many plazas and whatnot in the Tempe and Chandler area. Glad he is keeping up the tradition to this day. I miss Tempe and now live in Kingman area. Tempe will always have a place in my heart.
Looks very nice and amazingly seems basically fully occupied. Never spent much time in Tempe growing up so I don't think I've ever been to that theater before.
Saw the lights on the way to Changing Hands. Incredible!
Awesome video! Love seeing an owner show his/her love in the business they own. I know I bug you about this a lot, but I’d love for you to cover AMC in one of your videos.
I went there all the time from 1996 until I moved to Florida in 2016, awesome experience!
Subscribed to your channel…., holy shit! Is that an mk4 machine out in the wild? So rare to see.
I live right down the street from the Pollack Plaza and one cool thing about the light display is they put it up EARLY. Like I think it was already up in late October. I know a lot of people think its dumb to put up Christmas lights too early but those of us who are really into Christmas can totally appreciate it. Also Vincitorios restaurant makes some pretty good Italian food.
Merry Christmas .
May the blessings of the Holy Ghost be on you and your household 🕊❤ !
I am originally from tempe and I remember going to this theater. It was awesome. Oh, how i miss arizona.
