The VHS Rewinder probably came from a video rental store. I worked at one back in the day and we always had 10 of them behind counter to rewind any VHS's that got returned and weren't rewound. They also were valuable in keeping the wear in tear of your home VHS player down as the heavy use of rewinding actually wore down the mechanisms much faster. So if you were a family that heavily used the VHS machine a rewinder would be very valuable in keeping your machines in working order longer.
You don't know how lucky you are to have a store like that near you! At my local Salvation army and goodwill stores, if you find 1 video game, it's a miracle lol!
Can you keep these thrift store videos coming. Because they're my favourite videos. And it's hard finding them nowadays. People people who used to make these videos are starting to livestream and that's all there doing now so I unsubscribe to them.

I didn't realize the DI was outside of Utah! One of my favorite places to thrift here since that's where Mormons donate so they get tons of stuff and price it cheap.
We had a VHS rewinder when I was a kid. If I recall, it was because rewinding using your VCR would shorten the lifespan of your VCR's innards (and possibly was harder on the tape as well), so you used the rewinder instead. Great video though as usual!
A Mall Tycoon 2 Disc pickup Erik? I have really been missing the Siesta Mall live streams. I was always excited for the stream no matter where I was. I even watched the stream sometimes in the stairwell, while at the Arizona Coyotes NHL Hockey Games. I hope the Mall Tycoon live-streams start again soon. The JC Penny stereo made me recoil with instant traumatic memories of being zapped by those metal dials every single time I'd touch them after walking across the shaggy carpet of my childhood home.
I think those vhs tape reminders I think we're bought for two reasons. To decease the gap time watching movies back to back or to preserve the life of the VCR. That second reason is probably a marketing ploy. It took a long time to rewind a 2 hour SP tape.
The reason we have tape rewinder because using the rewinder on the VCR usually I would destroy a lot of vcrs by using the rewinder in the vcr that's what we have VHS rewinder
And no one EVER rewound the tapes! So if you wanted to watch something and found an unwound tape already in the VCR, you just put it in the rewinder while watching your movie/show lol.
This is the most relaxing series. Every time a new episode comes out, I make dedicated time for my weekly cheat meal, hit a drive thru somewhere, and sit at my desk very calming stuffing my face and enjoying the video. Excellent work!

Test Drive Le Mans is legitimately one of my favorite DreamCast games. I remember being about 7, and my dad took me to GameStop and we got this for ourselves for 99 cents. We keep playing it together still to this day. Congrats on grabbing it, and eliciting legit excitement out of me when you showed it.

I went to a thrift shop when I was 12 in the middle of Indiana, my grandparents live in rural Indiana. And it was 1 hour and 30 minutes away. I found like 2 good disasters movies, which I was and am still interested in. A 4 pack of disaster movies, with fire, and several others. $2. I eventually grew tired of it and donated it. Honestly I should buy it ago for the memories.

Nostalgia Nerd does some thrifting episodes. He's in Norwich and shares office space with Ashens. He also does some 'boot sales' with the kids. That's probably the closest you'll see to a local LGR Thrifts (Retail Archaeology) episode.
the VHS turbo winder were very useful at blockbusters and video stores for staff to quickly rewind tapes that customers were either too lazy to do or had forgotten to do, so the idea was keep the turbo winder behind the counter and make sure each tape is at the start before placing them back on the shelves for the next customer to hire.

I have a Lights-Out game! I had it since the 90's since I was a kid! It's slightly broken though. One of the buttons stopped working. You basically just press them until all the lights are off! And I used to have a Quiz Wiz! But I don't have it anymore. Just one of the booklets with dinosaur questions.
Another thing we have for hunting is a used book store like 30 minutes and 25 miles away. It is worth hunting. Books are like $10 or $15 each. But you can donate your used books to them for like 70% of the value for them to sell. You get like $35 of store credit for like 1 full bag of books, like 40 books. And they accept them written on and even there own books back. So it Sucks, write a note to the next person buying it and they take it back for store credit. The prices aren’t great, might as well go to Barnes and Noble. But it is the principal of keeping used book stores in business. A great hunting story. Beach town books in San Clemente.
I have the same Fisher price cassette player. It still (except for the mic) works and I love it! It is really well made, mine felt on the floor plenty of times and look at it, working as new!
That minidisc player is super cool,if it still works. I have a sony MD walkman ,no longer working. I also have a box of discs that I recorded with music and Howard stern , from the year 2001.

Can relate to this so much shopping a lot of goodwills in the Phoenix area. More so in the east valley (stuff to find is better and so are prices). I once found someones whole comic book collection. I got a few and was curious why they donated them all. Found they had died of cancer on their Facebook a year earlier. They had lived alone in an apartment full of colletibles. That person worked and lived collecting stuff they loved and it was just given away. I think of that type of situation more as i go through this stuff now. Some person prized lots of these possessions and didn't choose for goodwill to have it. Sad reality of it all.
Also the biggest stack of wii fit boards ive seen was at the goodwill on power rd by the 202. Was the whole bottom shelf of the row nearly 70 in total. No idea how that happens except for a store going out of business lol

6:12 I was told that if a VCR was designed for 1,000 plays of the average movie, if you rewind each of those movies, that number decreases by half (2:1 ratio I believe) Why are all the good stuff on the west coast... the thrift stores around here really suck, not only with there merch but with their prices too. Yes, too, I found a few electronics but they always seem to be missing the power cords. How do they expect to sell something if it doesn't even power on. I could understand if they keep the power cord in the back to prevent theft (to a degree) but the employees will not even go in the back room and look.
At one thrift store I've been to, it had a partnership with a local antique store and had a small section of discount antiques and one time my girlfriend at the time bought me an old KODAK Brownie art deco camera from it. As a big fan of art deco, it was an amazing gift. At another thrift store, on a shelf was about 12 broken PlayStation 2's all lined up.
I had one of those wind up Tomy Bring Along a Song toys when I was little. Exactly like that. DI was the only thrift store O ever went to as a kid on Broadway near Alma School. It's still there and in business.

You go back 5 days later and there was only 18 still here. So if they were popular during the craze why we there always an over supply everywhere you go.

The VHS rewinder is used to save your VCR. Rewinding using the VCR puts alot of strain on the motor and takes much longer.
I got a Minolta talking camera for xmas 1985. It issued helpful cues like "Load film", "Check distance", and "Use flash"

If I ever visit thrift stores I would be looking for vintage Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars.

@@RetailArchaeology They're crazy. Bins coming from the back and people waiting for the permission to start picking through stuff and its a free for all from there. I get anxious about going there at times, but you get some good stuff. At mine, there are mostly clothes, some shoes, and purses.
