If you truly want to see the difference in strength, take a 350-400 lb power lifter such as Eddie Hall, who is incredibly strong, and see if he can navigate his way through the structures in a gorilla enclosure that are designed to give the gorilla exercise, especially climbing exercise. I have seen videos of silverbacks pulling themselves 20' up a tree with a rope with no more effort than it would take them to walk 20 feet across the ground.
That's not even a difference in strength, that's a different kind of strength. Muscles exercised in very different ways. A Gorilla would outclass most humans in climbing however Brian Shaw lifted 2000lb's in a barrel lift as well as leg pressing a 2000lb car last year.
@@Tattletale-Delta In other words, the gorilla would STILL be significantly stronger than a human, as RCSTILE suggested in his comment to begin with. 🙄

The weight people say they can lift is theoretical. They can’t lift a car. People forget that gorillas don’t know form or proper lifting techniques. Same reason why they can’t use a branch like a baseball bat or throw weaker than a human toddler.
Chimpanzees are the strongest of all primates, in terms of weight to muscle strength. they are only 30-70% stronger than humans. This is what scientists studying the muscle tissue of primates say. the gorilla has even weaker muscles than the chimpanzee, primarily due to its vegetarian diet. If you put a 200 kg male gorilla and a 200 kg human male powerlifter side by side, there will be very little advantage for gorilla.

Gorillas are such awesome creatures and the SILVERBACK IS SO MAJESTIC! I've heard on several occasions that Gorillas are mostly quite peaceful if ppl don't attempt to hurt them or their young.
There's a video of two female gorillas fighting and the huge silverback twice the size of the females who were fighting rushed them and knew who started the fight. He pinned her to the ground and just held her down for a few seconds until she calmed down. He could've killed her but was giving her a timeout and soon let her up. He let them both know who was the pack leader and did not tolerate any violence among his wives. The speed he showed in running to the fight and which he pinned her was breathtaking
Indeed. I saw that video. Very impressive. Very few if any human beings will be able to react to the speed of the silverback coming towards themselves.
I still remember the time my high school went to the Toronto Zoo and saw Charles. (Pretty sure he was not a silverback). A classmate was teasing him and Charles got rather upset and then slammed both fists on the glass. Thankfully it held but even 30 years later, I still remember everyone scattering. If he wanted to, he could have broken through but I think he made his point.
I remember as a child going to Bensons Wild Animal farm in Hudson New Hampshire. They had a Gorilla named Colossus who was a huge nearly 500 lb. Silverback. I remember him taking a car tire and tossing it against a wall and having it come back and bounce off his chest. Gorilla strength is estimated to be about 10 times their body weight. Fully grown silverbacks are actually stronger than 20 adult humans combined. A Silverback gorilla can lift 4,000 lbs. Actually, man can easily defeat a Silverback. Remember Neanderthals come a long way from sticks and stones. Man has the weaponry to dispatch any living thing on earth.
Even just looking at their skeleton, there's little competition in terms of strength, and it's ridiculous to state that just the biceps and triceps are stronger in particular. All these points contribute to exponentially higher strength: - higher type IIx muscle fiber ratio - thicker bones with higher density - higher torque on the joints due to point of origin to insertion - higher absolute weight - MUCH higher FFMI (fat free mass index) It's like comparing ourselves to a strictly vegetarian bear. I think a misunderstanding about animal strength is the belief that pound for pound their muscles are vastly different than ours, it's better understood in terms of how their skeleton and muscle anchor points provide them with unique mechanical advantages in certain tasks as a result of how those muscles are hung off their frame and how much work their muscles are able to generate in specific motions as a result. Thinking of our bodies as inherently weaker than other animals misses that our evolutionary adaptations are ones that optimizes us for endurance and traveling great distances over ground, not lifting heavy masses or swing from tree to tree.

If you look at the skeletons of gorillas, you will see reinforced protrusions where tendons, ligaments, and muscles can attach. The crest on their skull acts as an attachment for working their powerful jaws used for chewing more raw food. Humans did not evolve from apes! God created man and apes which are not the same kind. The both were created by God on the same day as well as all other creatures.
Additionally, the apes forearm muscles have long muscle bellies unlike humans, who have long tendons, but short muscle bellies. Greater amount of the contractile muscle tissue produces the greater force. This interesting detail was mentioned by Johannes Ranke, German anthropologist.
Gorillas are just built different. Short legs leading to lower center of mass, and much longer arms. Bigger hands and skull. Thick fur. Wider hips, rib-cage and shoulders. Thicker joints. Thicker bones. Just a much more powerful frame to attach those amazing fast twitch muscles to.
Even a simple rock significantly increases a humans lethality. All apes are capable of throwing or bashing things with a rock but due to humans skeletal structure no other ape is as efficient. Essentially humans are not the strongest or fastest creatures but we are one of the most efficient. Also very few animals move laterally and none as quickly as a human.

There's a video of two female gorillas fighting and the huge silverback twice the size of the females who were fighting rushed them and knew who started the fight. He pinned her to the ground and just held her down for a few seconds until she calmed down. He could've killed her but was giving her a timeout and soon let her up. Even just looking at their skeleton, there's little competition in terms of strength, and it's ridiculous to state that just the biceps and triceps are stronger in particular.
All these points contribute to exponentially higher strength:
- higher type IIx muscle fiber ratio
- thicker bones with higher density
- higher torque on the joints due to point of origin to insertion
- higher absolute weight
- MUCH higher FFMI (fat free mass index)

I think a misunderstanding about animal strength is the belief that pound for pound their muscles are vastly different than ours, it's better understood in terms of how their skeleton and muscle anchor points provide them with unique mechanical advantages in certain tasks as a result of how those muscles are hung off their frame and how much work their muscles are able to generate in specific motions as a result.
Thinking of our bodies as inherently weaker than other animals misses that our evolutionary adaptations are ones that optimizes us for endurance and traveling great distances over ground, not lifting heavy masses or swing from tree to tree.
And animals have far more endurance and can go much further distance
@@shoeplayisbad1for most humans today sure.
But, humans can in long distance out run every other land animal on the planet.
It's thought that was how humans mainly hunted before the invention of ranged weapons.
And there's even tribes still today who uses the same hunting method! They will select a target antilope etc. And then just run after it until it eventually falls over from exhaustion, since most animals are evolved for sprinting and can't keep the speeds up for very long.
@@shoeplayisbad1 Than sedentary modern humans? Most def. But humans who's strong and conditioned to the environment can hunt by running animals down. Our prey can get away from us easily ofc but spend too much energy in doing so and because they can't regulate their body heat by sweating the way we can we'll slowly exhaust them til they can no longer outpace us. it's known as 'Persistence Hunting' and some practice it to this day.

If you look at the skeletons of gorillas, you will see reinforced protrusions where tendons, ligaments, and muscles can attach. The crest on their skull acts as an attachment for working their powerful jaws used for chewing more raw food. also remember people they are physically active daily, many of the old time bodybuilders/strongmen of the 1890's-1910 era trained with weights 5-6 or even 7 days a week, and they trained whole body with lots of compound movements and lifts, which is one reason why most modern bodybuilders fall short of what those old time strongmen/ bodybuilders did
100% agree!
No they dont, the bodybuilders of today are way larger than those in the 1900.
Yeah roids
@@stockpilegolem7241maybe larger but they are not as strong.
@@garethwigglesworth8187 They are also stronger. You´re confusing strength with stamina or endurance.
If you’ve ever seen that tug-of-war between that bodybuilder, and a lion where the lion is holding a bodybuilder with one claw.
That bodybuilder isn't even a 400lb dude
imagine one of these things grabbing your ankles, suddenly you get to be the rag doll toy.
And then Iron Mike Tyson seriously tried to convince a Zoo Keeper with 500 000usd to fight a Gorilla!
that zoo keeper saved his life.
Good grief he must have been whacked out on cocaine.
He would have sent it packing in a single punch.
Gorillas are super fast and super agile. Wonderful creatures.
Don't4️⃣4Forget🦍Super🇺🇸Soldier!!##️⃣
If I was so lucky to get in contact with these creatures I think I'd barely hold my tears (just as I'm writing these words my eyes are teary at the thought).
You'd be in tears alright son after it rips your arms off and uses your head as a snare drum
I'd have trouble holding back more than tears.
I’d be crying if my life was in immediate danger as well
What sort of contact? Did you write to the gorilla?
Human beings are the most dangerous animals on earth because of their minds.
very respectful and informative video. helping people to navigate this wild world. silverback...WOW
Fascinating information, but we still don't really know how strong gorillas are.
A couple of observations: there are humans who've lifted 12 times their bodyweight in an old circus stunt called the backlift. The heaviest certified backlift is 5,300 lbs by a Canadian about 20 years ago.
The most comprehensive strength study done on gorillas was at the St Louis zoo over 60 years ago. Unfortunately, it's not on the internet.
That is true....I had a book on apes written recently....and they have never devised tests to measure their true strength..
Well, lions for instance have way more muscle mass and stronger muscle fibers than gorillas. So lions are stronger.
That's not really a lift, it's people or weight being set on someones back.
@@N3RV001 Whole baclift is very vague thing. Allegedly Canadian guy "lifted" 4100 lbs, not 5300. But we are talking about a movement of 2-3 cm, not real lifting. If you put a guy under 4000 lbs, no matter who he is, he will be crushed under the weight and dies. When such weights are handled, there are strong racks protecting people and leaving safe places.
yes - becacause all teh insane human lifts are based on our legs - our legs get used all day - they are 6 x more powerful than our arms - and close to any gorilla.
Mike Tyson wouldn't have stood a chance if he got his fight with one of these like he tried to.
the keeper who refused to open the cage literally saved Mike's life
@@gabrielebensio Mike would have been eaten alive, literally.
@@cornovii3012 there is ppl who think Mike would win 😂😂😂😂😂how the fuck you can beat an opponent that can crush your skull with one bite??? Ok, Mike is good in biting too, but gorilla is on another level....

The strongest feature is the power of the brain. Here, a gorilla has no match to a human being. Every creature on earth has its own most valuable asset.
Don't Forget That One Time When Mike Tyson wanted To Fight A Gorilla For 10 Thousand Dollars
I am a big tyson fan. I have asked people if they think Mike tyson could KO a gorilla. I always get the "he would get his arms ripped off." But I am talking about if Tyson went first. Blitzes in and lands 3 quick, full power shots CLEAN to the chin, could that physically cause the loss of consciousness for Silverback. I know they have a thick, strong neck and probably a thick ass skull. But I don't see how that could just be "shrugged off" like nothing happened.
@@marshallwayne-uf4pq 🤣
@marshallwayne-uf4pq maybe tigresses, definitely not a fully grown male Siberian tiger.
@@marshallwayne-uf4pq 🤣
@marshallwayne-uf4pq a Siberian 🐅 vs a lion is like a grizzly bear vs a black bear. The tiger being the stronger faster more powerful grizzly.
When I was in the Congo I was attacked by two silver back gorillas. My survival instinct kicked in and I had to wrestle both kongs. I used my wrestling abilities to put them in a half nelson. They both started to tap out and cry for their mama. So I let them go, and they disappeared into the jungle. Never to be seen again.
based chad right there
🤣👍
Didja give 'em noogies? I heard that works sometimes.
Them was some good 'shrooms, huh?
This is a channel where you'd expect the final result to be driven purely by physicality. This unexpected result underscores the notion that the adaptations that made humans the apex species on this planet are behavioral as well as physical.
Humans did not evolve from apes! God created man and apes which are not the same kind. The both were created by God on the same day as well as all other creatures.
@@denverferrell5217 Never mentioned that. But since you brought it up: there is no such thing as g-d.

I actually read this comment in Dr. Eugene Porter.
@@iShayneGA You are very well read, then!
Great video! Can’t get enough of primates.
Additionally, the apes forearm muscles have long muscle bellies unlike humans, who have long tendons, but short muscle bellies. Greater amount of the contractile muscle tissue produces the greater force. This interesting detail was mentioned by Johannes Ranke, German anthropologist.
Dude imagine a gorilla training for muscle strength and mass…
Gorillas are just built different. Short legs leading to lower center of mass, and much longer arms. Bigger hands and skull. Thick fur. Wider hips, rib-cage and shoulders. Thicker joints. Thicker bones. Just a much more powerful frame to attach those amazing fast twitch muscles to.
Would I rather fight a gorilla or a tiger? What difference would it make either way I would be torn to shreds. 🤷🏼♂️
It'd probably be a quicker, and therefore more humane death, with the tiger.
In a human vs anything situation there are few lifeforms that cannot be overcome by a sharp stick
Missing the point. We're talking about strength. Humans are designed badly for power.
Actually humans are much stronger than your infantile need to divinize wild animals want you to believe
@@Squisky We are invested in a different type of power. Vehicles and pack animals are a direct function of human intelligence which allows us to move far more mass than a gorilla ever could
@@josephjucker5620 Still missing the point of this video.
it always amazes me how insanely powerful and yet gentle these creatures are.
Men build machines, which make them (us) overwhelming strong. So I would not reduce a wide reality like strenght into a small concept like muscles.
Besides, as Baltasar Gracián said: "If you study a lion, you'll be capable of knowing all the lions. If you study a man, you only going to be capable of knowing that man."
My opinion.
I was hoping someone would make that point. It doesn’t seem a fair to compare a gorilla’s full range of evolved abilities but exlude a lot of human abilities, like tool and weapon use.
@@ludlowworthington697 Conversely, let's take a modern urban human, put him in the jungle and compare his survival with that of a gorilla in the same environment. This is about physical, brute strength. Not a mental performance test, or an IQ test. Although, I have met humans who's intelligence would fail when compared to your average gorilla....
ramoncotta … Yeah, I know what you mean. I’d sure be at a loss to survive in a jungle.
Maybe a fair comparison would be a series of events like a decathlon. Or a pageant. I might win a debate vs a gorilla. A swimsuit competition would be a toss up.
@@ludlowworthington697 I feel your pain.
As he said at the start, "let's begin speculating." Which means, no one knows how much stronger this powerful animal is compared to a human. One thing is certain, it is by a very large margin.
