Rob, you are the man!! I am embarrassed to say that I have been playing drums for over 30 years and have never felt confident about changing snare wires. I just followed this video while putting wires on a mapex saturn snare drum and needless to say, it worked like a charm..amazing!! Thanks so much for your helpful tips and advice!! Rock on! Dave

    What a GREAT video.
I am so glad that my first drum instructor (R.I.P. Pete Crawford) taught me to do it this way. That whole "loosen the throw tension to bottom out/snare wires off center/pray that it comes out centered" approach is so frustrating. This method works perfectly every single time.

Maaaaaan! This helped me so much. I just started drumming and I'm a total newbie at adjusting and fixing things. Got a free remo snare from a dude who thought it was broken cause he couldn't figure out how to adjust snare wires. Things were cranked so tight. woohoo! free snare.

Many thanks for this step by step video. This is, by far, my favorite method of those I've seen over the years. Changing wires was a thing I *dreaded* (for decades) before watching this (never too old to learn, tho). The 2 things that helped me most is the *"Leaving the Strainer on"* instead of "off," & the step of turning the tension dial all the way down after turning the strainer off toward the end. Those 2 steps alone made this MUCH easier for me, & I'm actually confident now. Now to try your kick drum method.

Favorite upgrades: nylon fabric ribbon instead of plastic or strings. Cheap and lasts darn near forever, just cut to length and melt the ends with a lighter. Wasn’t sure if you had special quick disconnect wires, but you can do that trick with any wires by running a loop of fabric ribbon through the slot from the bottom and pinning it with a dowel or something on the top. Great if you want to change strand count on the fly. Love the videos, just subscribed.
