Rob, you are the man!! I am embarrassed to say that I have been playing drums for over 30 years and have never felt confident about changing snare wires. I just followed this video while putting wires on a mapex saturn snare drum and needless to say, it worked like a charm..amazing!! Thanks so much for your helpful tips and advice!! Rock on! Dave
We sooo needed this! There are only literally like one or two videos on RUclips covering this topic...here is the best one!
It ain’t the most popular searched topic, but we gotta know how to do it ✌🏽
Kenny Sharetts Taught me Better
@@danalnajes Then what're ya doin' here?
This video was a life saver!! I almost broke down in depression and gave up because no matter how tight I turned the nob I couldn’t get enough snare response. So I watched your vid having faith you could help and man you did. Now I can sleep knowing my snare has quality sound. Can’t thank you enough man.
Man, I swear God I got a brand new wires this week and I was just waiting a moment when I got courage enough to change them...thanks for the help, as always!! You're the best coach ever! :)
Haha yeah! That's why I always hesitate to change wires or resonant head.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate these common sense tutorials and ESPECIALLY the reminder to not overthink it
I love how you make 20 minute videos on basic topics and are able to make the whole video entertaining
Jeez I was losing my mind while changing my snare wires for ghe first time. Thanks for the help, man. You're doing God's work!
Just bought my first kit since I was a doofus punk rock teenager who would bang on ANYTHING that was set in front of me. I'm old enough now to want TONE and after watching only 3 of your videos, I have a fully transformed kit. You're a pretty cool guy and you should know it. :)
What a GREAT video.
I am so glad that my first drum instructor (R.I.P. Pete Crawford) taught me to do it this way. That whole "loosen the throw tension to bottom out/snare wires off center/pray that it comes out centered" approach is so frustrating. This method works perfectly every single time.
Maaaaaan! This helped me so much. I just started drumming and I'm a total newbie at adjusting and fixing things. Got a free remo snare from a dude who thought it was broken cause he couldn't figure out how to adjust snare wires. Things were cranked so tight. woohoo! free snare.
This is where I have been having problems with the snare .
Wow I’ve been playing for years and this is the easiest way to install snare wires. Thank you sir 🤙🏼💯
Thank you! I did everything you said to do and it was way easier than I thought it would be (first time doing it, bass player starting to dabble in drums for fun) … thanks for all the simplified lessons 👍👍👍
Finally! Something practical and straight forward. I hate changing snare wires. But it is a necessary evil. This is hands down the best video on the subject I have seen so far. Thank you sir....
refreshing news! again you deserve the name : ..you tube ..greatest influence to me, if it is about drums, drumming ,snare wires..and every thing in between!..
Rob "Beat Down" Brown, you helped me again. I walked through this video with you and a new snare drum I picked up last month that was giving me problems with the adjustment on the snare tensioning and now it sounds like gold. I've been a drummer longer than you've been alive but yet I always pick up great information from you and learn something new or find a better way to do it. You really are terrific! Thank you.
rob thank you from the bottom of my heart looool...this used to drvie me fxxxxin nuts ..why hasnt somone shown me this before ,,salute
Rob your wrinkle push drum tunning is famous.....only way to tune toms...thx brother😊
Thanks for all the intelligent info with a common sense approach you put out to the Drumming community.
Whoa -- Literally, just this morning I was searching for this info. Thank you! I'm a fan of all your work and grateful for your teaching.
watched this a year later and can confirm this man is a genius! i fell back in love with my snare because of your tutorial!
I have to give you props man. You took this from super frustrating to very quick and easy. Many thanks!!
Rob, I really dig how you simplify many things and make it much more appetizing and interesting when it comes to drums! Keep up the good work
Simple, on-task and not afraid to go against long established practices! Thanks for another outstanding video!
My snare wires started to pop when I first tried doing it myself :(
I’m glad you’re here to help me fix my mistakes lol
Many thanks for this step by step video. This is, by far, my favorite method of those I've seen over the years. Changing wires was a thing I *dreaded* (for decades) before watching this (never too old to learn, tho). The 2 things that helped me most is the *"Leaving the Strainer on"* instead of "off," & the step of turning the tension dial all the way down after turning the strainer off toward the end. Those 2 steps alone made this MUCH easier for me, & I'm actually confident now. Now to try your kick drum method.
since I watched this tutorial, especially the part with the tip to start with strainer in ON position, every snare sound beautiful and I have no problem to tune them. Thank you Rob for this great video and the tips on tuning.
Great intro, and nothin could be more true!. No matter how many times I adjust my snare wires, I will NEVER believe them to be on as straight as they could or should be!!
once again you nailed it, i wish i listened to your lessons years ago, and saved alot of headaches, and incorrect experimenting , i just put 20 strands on my ludwig supersonic, puresound. great...
Thank you for the straight forward and easy to follow instructions!
I just added a new Evans hydraulic blue batter head and 500 snare side.
You helped me adjust the new pure sound wire and everything sounds crisp and tight!
Cheers! 🍻
Hey rob I appreciate all your tuning videos my kit sounds 100% better still having snare issues gonna try this tip later on today
I rarely have needed to replace wires so this vid was a reminder of how to do it. I appreciate it. I eventually always get these worked out but I have always done it the hard way. 😆
I watched tons of videos , english , spanish, and tried Many different ways to do it , and thanks god I saw this video , my wires sounds amazing thanks to this man
Wow, man. I had huge problems adjusting the snare wires on my Pearl Dennis Chambers snare (with two strainers). This video changed everything.
As always, top quality material.
Thank You, sir!
I know this is old but man this helped me a lot!!
Rob. You are the man. Appreciate you making your tutorials so easy to follow.
Wow thank you so much. I had watched other videos and nothing had helped as much as this. It was always trial and error and a lot of guess work, but I nailed it first go this way. Thanks!!
Best explanation on RUclips straight up. Thank you for taking the time to make this.
Hello Rob, I tried your technique on my Bubinga 14 x 6,5 snare last night: guess what: it worked!! Excellent advice, thank you!
Rob, thank you, really appreciated your video, you put me into investigating mode, I just purchased a 14x8 maple walnut snare by pdp/dw, my other snare was a pearl piccolo, 13x3.5, .....never even thought to look at the snare wire setup, you weren't joking, 19 wire set on the piccolo, 30 wires on the 8" deep snare, it's a frickin Canon, never would of looked at the wired setup until your video, thank you, and I would have a idea of how to put a new one on at this point! Rock on wildman, you look great!!
How did you know I got a new snare drum in the mail today that needed a snare wire adjustment?! Dude... always coming in clutch! Thanks!!!
Thank you very much for this excellent approach to snare wire fixing! I sure need it to get my Bubinga snare sounding as I want!
I guess I never really thought about changing snare wires. Thank you for the insight!
Wow Rob that was amazing been fighting with this for years.
You the man!
Thank you!
this is the most helpful video for snare installment ever. i was always unsure if i would get it right. now those days are over. it`s easy and it`s a safe way of doing it. no guess work and all that shit. great advice, thanks rob!
Since I use RTOM Black Hole mutes, I don’t have to worry about snare wires but watching anyways bc Rob’s just a cool drummer.🤘😝🤘
Just did a refresh on my snare with Evans 200 Snare Side, Puresound 24 Strand (steel) wires and an Evans Genera batter…and Wow! Thanks Rob!
Thanks Rob. You’re right I’ve always hated changing snare wires.
You are the real deal never met you but we see eye to eye God speed
Thank you for your Videos Rob,i learn a lot from you,God bless you, regards from Bulgaria 🇧🇬
Thanks! I'm new this stuff and your chill is helpin!
Thank you so much for this video! I was having this problem where my snare sounded way too sharp to ear, and I did what you said. I backed off the snares all the way and then gradually tightened them. Turns out I had them WAY to tight before, and now they are a lot looser and the snare sounds awesome!
Brother Rob, you are always the best...... Thanks and Blessings!
Rob is the man… such useful and helpful tips❤️
Perfectly done. Thanks!
Thank you Rob , I was ready to have non Christian moment ( bad words) lol adjusting my snares , you came through again .
Excellent video, brother. I'm really digging both you're content aw ell as the way it's delivered.
Thank you sir. On your other video I asked about the “snare wire” and now I am all set.
Awesome and timely video! Thanks, Rob!
Hey man! Thank you so much! This is super helpful, especially the part about centering the wires with the throw off in the “on” position. 👍🏻
Great easy to follow guide!
Thank you for this video. Just got a new Pearl Masters maple snare and your video helped me get it sounding perfect.
You’re the man Rob!
LOVE YOUR CHANNEL BRO!
THANK YOU SO MUCH and you are 1000% correct about the wires.
I recently aquired a Yamaha Stage Custom snare and it came from factory, I think they put on upside down. Mine actually came already on snare. So mad about it.
I come to your chan for help 1st cuz you are to the point with no nonsense. You rock man!
Thanks again from The Wolfgang Buck!
Thanks Rob, Much appreciated.
Thanks again Rob!!
By the way, the snare sound during your intro is AMAZING
Your videos are very helpful and relatable. Thanks man !
Rob my son plays drum and I'm kind of the drum tech for him. Haha. But everything I have learn has been from your videos. So thank you sir. You Rock!
super helpful! Thanks Mate!
Yup.this is exactly how it works best. Period. For ever. Finally. Thanks.
All these years and I learn a killer way to do this! Btw, IMO the snare breaths better with snare string!
Thank you man! As always, best drum advice on youtube...
Thank you very much! I just got my first drum kit and this helped me a lot because I didn't like the "sizzle" being so loud
Excellent video, this works ❤ legend
Great video! Very clear and helpful.
Thanks for this wonderful video that has helped me to get the right place of the wires in my snare. Regards from Chile
Your tuning workshop videos are awesome, thank you so much!
Glad they helped! ✌🏽🙂
Awesome! I'm mid rebuild of a 1965 pearl kit I salvaged from a roof cavity which has a 'canora percussion' 14" snare needing new wires and some TLC.. Kit Was my father in-laws he got when he was 15.. this may be one of the last things I need to do but it's going to help a BUNCH!
FYI not easy finding parts for this kit, but geez it's going to come up nice
Super easy, super helpful. Thank you!
Thank you so much, you made it so easy for me to understand this 🙌
The intro was hilarious!
Really, really helped me out. Thank you so much
Thank you for the great video you definitely helped me out with adjusting my snare wire
'A Rob
if anyone tries 2make sport of u n your earlier videos bcuz u're "chunky", at the end of the day 1 must remember: those beats u b droppin' r "chunky" too! ya' might even say "fat". tht iz 2say with all due respect, u're an excellent teacher and u have much knowledge and technique behind the drum kit.
You are absolutely right!!!
Great info thank you.
Fixed snare wires, check. Thanks again!
I’ve been struggling with replacing snare
wires on a vintage Gretsch snare drum this week! I’ve always changed them with the strainer off but will now try leaving it on! Oh and I never thought of tying a darn knot to create a way to easily put tension on the string! 🤦♂️. Thank you!!
Rob always makes me laugh at myself from how easy it really is to make your drums sound good. Great video!
Excellent vid saved me so much time and frustration ..
Mission accomplished 🤘🏽
Very helpful
Favorite upgrades: nylon fabric ribbon instead of plastic or strings. Cheap and lasts darn near forever, just cut to length and melt the ends with a lighter. Wasn’t sure if you had special quick disconnect wires, but you can do that trick with any wires by running a loop of fabric ribbon through the slot from the bottom and pinning it with a dowel or something on the top. Great if you want to change strand count on the fly. Love the videos, just subscribed.
nice this tips.. thank you verymuch
Great guide, thank you
This video is so good
Great guidance man 🤠
Great information
Thank you for this
You're a blessing
I only go to Rob's channel for "how to" stuff related to drums. For everything else drum related, it's rdavidr for me.
