Lewis says in Mere Christianity: "We may, indeed, be sure that perfect chastity--like perfect charity--will not be attained by any merely human efforts. You must ask for God's help. Even when you have done so, it may seem to you for a long time that no help, or less help than you need, is being given. Never mind. After each failure, ask forgiveness, pick yourself up, and try again. Very often what God first helps us towards is not the virtue itself but just this power of always trying again... The only fatal thing is to sit down content with anything less than perfection." Whether you also take your struggles to a close friend or family member is up to you, but definitely not a bad idea (even if it seems weird) and it helped me A LOT. Im raising a 13 year old boy, and I always ahare with him to remind him that his greatest pursuit in his life is to pursue christ likeness, to become a man of honor and integrity a man after Gods heart, to become a man mighty in God for God and his glory. I encourage all young men to workout and be physically strong. That is part of being a man if you are able bodied. I agree with most of what Paul said. But to discourage young men from working out is wrong. If a young man joins the military, law enforcement, or becomes a fireman they will be forced to workout out in the training portions of that career field. There are ebbs and waves in the culture and we are at a point where childishness is considered a virtue. I believe that the maturity is what purifies and causes the inner child to reflect God. For your inner child to die is a tragedy and for your inner child to run wild is a tragedy. Every man has a parent child relationship within themselves. For each, one is easier than the other. If I can't sit down and play a game with family, laughing and joking around free from self consciousness, I have killed the inner child. If I can't put entertainment aside to serve God, my family, and others, I have let the inner child abuse itself. Personally, I have more trouble with the second one. And when I fail in that way and let guilt creep in, even the former suffers. I had a mentor who would tell me to think only about work during work so that when work was over I could stop thinking about it. A lack of balance is torture.

Putting to the flesh to death is a daily process that only you can do and it starts with taking EVERY THOUGHT captive to the obedience of Christ. Think about that for a moment. It means that you need to deal with EVERY thought that's contrary to the Bible. That and "dying daily in the flesh" is what will ultimately renew your mind and lessen your struggle. There's a reason God's grace INCTREASES as sin INCREAES and it's to allow Christians to renew their minds and learn how to put to death (daily) the desires of the flesh. For me what helped the most was reading Romans 6 and 8 at LEAST once daily and studying those 2 chapters. It's for good reason that Paul said, "I die daily." 2Cor10:5 NIV "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." Heb4:15 AMP "For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize and understand our weaknesses and temptations, but One who has been tempted [knowing exactly how it feels to be human] in every respect as we are, yet without [committing any] sin."
I recommend you do this every single day and it will change your life. Get a copy of 'God's Creative Power Gift Collection by Charles Capps'. Bookmark all of the sections where there are paraphrased scripture and confess them out loud daily. If you can't get the collection, you can get second hand individual copies cheap.
Not many 14 year olds in history have had to fight the temptations you do today. I wouldn’t have done well with a smart phone at your age. I got rid of mine for a time and it helped a lot. Also, if I could give myself advice at that age it would be to be very careful who I am friends with.

26 years old and I've completely pulled out of society. I quit my last job about a year and a half ago because I was done being treated like I was incapable and unworthy and ignorant. I live at home with my parents and watch streams and youtube and play video games and help around the house and so on every day. we live in a failed society yet no one can see that because they all care only about themselves and are caught up in trying to impress everyone with their "accomplishments" and superficial possessions and so on. it seems like no one has a soul anymore not to mention a heart. no one takes me seriously because i have no desire to sell my character like a car salesmen and wear my faults on my sleeve instead of trying to conceal them. i cant get hired anywhere because I'm a white straight male with minimal work place experience in what i want to do and when i get side entry level jobs i cant retain them because either my anxiety disorder is conflated with incompetence or I'm viewed as too competent and a threat to the manager's job. there seems to be no place in this superficial society for someone like me and honestly I'm indifferent at this point because when you let it eat you up you either have a job and hate your life or you are unemployed and see yourself as a loser for not having a job. it is a vicious cycle that never ends and consumes and forces you to submit to it but also makes your soul sick.

Perfectly qualified but i was denied the job and the dude they hired eventually got fired because he was incompetent and they are in the same boat as before. Second this point. I'm an orchestra and piano instructor. I teach 5th through 12th graders. The music of video games is what got me to study music at the conservatory level. And I still play video games as I throughly enjoy the music and I get ideas for it when it comes to composing. Mostly the single player JRPG genre. And I'm active in my church and I'm a cross country coach. I'm very much independent, live below my means, and have zero debt. I'm just as much of a man as Paul Washer, but I don't live my life on his terms. God can use anyone, at any point in their lives whether a child or elderly, for his purposes.
If you're addicted to gaming, then it's a problem. Any kind of screens, for that matter. It used to be the news was something you would watch for 30 minutes in the evening and that was it. I don't think the message is "Christians should never play video games", but if you're spending more than an hour a day playing with screens, that's a red flag.
Even IF women are more immature than men, we (the Men) still need to grow up and be manly in the character of God. Men are leaders, we are the ones who look after the women and protect them. I’m hoping next Sunday he did the same sermon directed towards women. Today 1 in 3 women have an std, are riddled with debt on head meds. It’s true we need men but it also says it’s not good for man to be alone and to be fruitful and multiply. If pastors are too cowardly to call out womens sin well you’ll get more of what your getting which is no reason to man up whether you like it or not. That being said I do agree that you need to get right with God regardless of the opposite sex and live in truth.

And I'm getting sick of older men telling younger men they need a kick in the pants. Where was the kick in the pants for the older men and women who've been endoctornating the younger men into this way of thinking? Or our society that has demonized masculinity and done everything to shame men for trying to be men? Then you want to shame these men who have just given up on a society that doesn't give a crap about them, and instead seek escapism elsewhere. These are the fruits our society has to reap for the seeds it has planted. Seems like a bad take, usually I enjoy Paul Washer but Jesus said to convert and become like little children in order to enter the kingdom of heaven. He didn’t say become like men. Shaming some dude for playing a video game or any games for that matters seems incorrect. Many men play games, live life, and have the joy of Christ in their hearts. I play video games and Christ knows I’d gladly die for Him today in this hour. I help and love my neighbors whether they live next door or are homeless. Setting your heart on Christ should mean you’ll love your enemies, love your neighbors. Bible tells you the point over and over in Job 28:28 and Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 and even Jesus says if you love him and were his friend you’d follow the commandments. I dunno “men” instead of growing up maybe grow down so you can believe like a little child and have joy and friendship in your hearts grow down to be like a little child so you’ll buy that homeless person you see daily a new pair of shoes, a belt and a meal. Take it a step further and befriend the homeless person and give them your phone number and help them get to medical appointments. I’d rather stay like a little child and do my best to continue hearing the gospel than become some “man” ready to be eaten by a lion as we know the devil is as a roaring lion waiting to devour.

I encourage all young men to workout and be physically strong. That is part of being a man if you are able bodied. I agree with most of what Paul said. But to discourage young men from working out is wrong.
If a young man joins the military, law enforcement, or becomes a fireman they will be forced to workout out in the training portions of that career field. A man should be physically strong to defend those whom he loves.

I agree young men should put themselves through some sort of physical exertion activity. But remember to remind them to humble themselves as Christ stated. Because vanity, pride, ego can start to creep in more… considering the culture and influence today. They are very much susceptible to that. So constantly denying themselves is essential.
Working out is not natural. This whole gym thing exists only for a decade. Learn to built a house , have a garden , carry water , walk instead of using a car that’s enough . No one needs to lift man made metal.

There are ebbs and waves in the culture and we are at a point where childishness is considered a virtue. I believe that the maturity is what purifies and causes the inner child to reflect God. For your inner child to die is a tragedy and for your inner child to run wild is a tragedy. Every man has a parent child relationship within themselves. For each, one is easier than the other. If I can't sit down and play a game with family, laughing and joking around free from self consciousness, I have killed the inner child. If I can't put entertainment aside to serve God, my family, and others, I have let the inner child abuse itself. Personally, I have more trouble with the second one. And when I fail in that way and let guilt creep in, even the former suffers. You have the privilege of seeking God from a young age, use it wisely. Make a commitment like studying the Bible daily, then gradually increase the time you spend reading the Bible. You'll soon find yourself stronger than ever. The most important time to study the word is in the morning, it'll be easy to resist temptation during the day
Putting to the flesh to death is a daily process that only you can do and it starts with taking EVERY THOUGHT captive to the obedience of Christ. Think about that for a moment. It means that you need to deal with EVERY thought that's contrary to the Bible. That and "dying daily in the flesh" is what will ultimately renew your mind and lessen your struggle. There's a reason God's grace INCTREASES as sin INCREAES and it's to allow Christians to renew their minds and learn how to put to death (daily) the desires of the flesh. For me what helped the most was reading Romans 6 and 8 at LEAST once daily and studying those 2 chapters. It's for good reason that Paul said, "I die daily."

I recommend you do this every single day and it will change your life. Get a copy of 'God's Creative Power Gift Collection by Charles Capps'. Bookmark all of the sections where there are paraphrased scripture and confess them out loud daily. If you can't get the collection, you can get second hand individual copies cheap.
Not many 14 year olds in history have had to fight the temptations you do today. I wouldn’t have done well with a smart phone at your age. I got rid of mine for a time and it helped a lot.
Also, if I could give myself advice at that age it would be to be very careful who I am friends with.

26 years old and I've completely pulled out of society. I quit my last job about a year and a half ago because I was done being treated like I was incapable and unworthy and ignorant. I live at home with my parents and watch streams and youtube and play video games and help around the house and so on every day. we live in a failed society yet no one can see that because they all care only about themselves and are caught up in trying to impress everyone with their "accomplishments" and superficial possessions and so on. it seems like no one has a soul anymore not to mention a heart. no one takes me seriously because i have no desire to sell my character like a car salesmen and wear my faults on my sleeve instead of trying to conceal them. i cant get hired anywhere because I'm a white straight male with minimal work place experience in what i want to do and when i get side entry level jobs i cant retain them because either my anxiety disorder is conflated with incompetence or I'm viewed as too competent and a threat to the manager's job. there seems to be no place in this superficial society for someone like me and honestly I'm indifferent at this point because when you let it eat you up you either have a job and hate your life or you are unemployed and see yourself as a loser for not having a job. it is a vicious cycle that never ends and consumes and forces you to submit to it but also makes your soul sick.

You'll come to find out that employers would rather hire a young person with no experience than a 26 year old with plenty but no financial responsibilities. They will pick the person who has a kid or wife and what not even if they are incompetent. For example i applied for a job where my homie works for a metal casting rework grinding position. Perfectly qualified but i was denied the job and the dude they hired eventually got fired because he was incompetent and they are in the same boat as before. Understaffed and unable to hire and retain people because they themselves are incompetent and cannot discern who is right or not for the job and this is happening everywhere. Trust me I've tried enough to have given up. Im currently contemplating a fast food job at this point because no one else gives a shit about me. I tested for a 145 IQ 5 years ago yet can't get any mid level job that requires 100IQ. I wear my faults on my sleeve and people are afraid of that. Second this point. I'm an orchestra and piano instructor. I teach 5th through 12th graders. The music of video games is what got me to study music at the conservatory level. And I still play video games as I throughly enjoy the music and I get ideas for it when it comes to composing. Mostly the single player JRPG genre. And I'm active in my church and I'm a cross country coach. I'm very much independent, live below my means, and have zero debt. I'm just as much of a man as Paul Washer, but I don't live my life on his terms. God can use anyone, at any point in their lives whether a child or elderly, for his purposes.
If you're addicted to gaming, then it's a problem. Any kind of screens, for that matter. It used to be the news was something you would watch for 30 minutes in the evening and that was it.
I don't think the message is "Christians should never play video games", but if you're spending more than an hour a day playing with screens, that's a red flag.

Even IF women are more immature than men, we (the Men) still need to grow up and be manly in the character of God. Men are leaders, we are the ones who look after the women and protect them. Its more important that the men grow up and mature first. And you know what, i think if men start to be men nationally then women will, by the grace of our God, become womanly women.
I think it tears young men in half when people tell them to grow up but doesn't tell them how or shows them how by example, there's no condition or grooming boys to be men, some people just expect to happen naturally while at the same people like most single mothers steer them in the opposite direction with their behavior and the nonsensical ideas and advice they feed young men. That's what makes me believe that there is no such thing as a bad student/child there's a bad teacher/parent. Especially when some parents expect teachers to do all the teaching and the parenting when a lot of teachers will neglect the rotten apples being raised by toxic neglectful parents and the parents will lie out their asses and swear it's not them and claim they're doing their best which is the farthest from the true because single mother know how to lie and put on an act at will

I turned 17 two months ago, and seeing this video is really strengthening my faith in God. I want to carry my cross any day and lead a cruciform life for Him. A real man walks the distance in his Christian life and stays hungry for righteousness.
I’m hoping next Sunday he did the same sermon directed towards women. Today 1 in 3 women have an std, are riddled with debt on head meds. It’s true we need men but it also says it’s not good for man to be alone and to be fruitful and multiply. If pastors are too cowardly to call out womens sin well you’ll get more of what your getting which is no reason to man up whether you like it or not. That being said I do agree that you need to get right with God regardless of the opposite sex and live in truth.

This man makes some points, but he talks like a doctor who addresses the symptoms rather than the root cause of the illness. And I'm getting sick of older men telling younger men they need a kick in the pants. Where was the kick in the pants for the older men and women who've been endoctornating the younger men into this way of thinking? Or our society that has demonized masculinity and done everything to shame men for trying to be men? Then you want to shame these men who have just given up on a society that doesn't give a crap about them, and instead seek escapism elsewhere. These are the fruits our society has to reap for the seeds it has planted. Seems like a bad take, usually I enjoy Paul Washer but Jesus said to convert and become like little children in order to enter the kingdom of heaven. He didn’t say become like men. Shaming some dude for playing a video game or any games for that matters seems incorrect. Many men play games, live life, and have the joy of Christ in their hearts. I play video games and Christ knows I’d gladly die for Him today in this hour. I help and love my neighbors whether they live next door or are homeless. Setting your heart on Christ should mean you’ll love your enemies, love your neighbors. Bible tells you the point over and over in Job 28:28 and Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 and even Jesus says if you love him and were his friend you’d follow the commandments.
I dunno “men” instead of growing up maybe grow down so you can believe like a little child and have joy and friendship in your hearts grow down to be like a little child so you’ll buy that homeless person you see daily a new pair of shoes, a belt and a meal. Take it a step further and befriend the homeless person and give them your phone number and help them get to medical appointments. I’d rather stay like a little child and do my best to continue hearing the gospel than become some “man” ready to be eaten by a lion as we know the devil is as a roaring lion waiting to devour.

As a man of God who not only plays games but also helps those who are emotionally hurt and someone who cannot go in the work Force who is disabled I use video games to help bring people to God whether it's streaming playing with others or just sharing the gospel or just explaining more about the Bible this whole demonizing of video games is annoying I'm not going to lie there are some games that are questionable such as rated R games which I myself used to play in the past which I don't anymore but I do not let video games control my life I used to not take my faith seriously before but now I am ever since I lost my ex-fiance because she broke up with me you can say what is a man all you want but it's funny to me that no one sticks up for the people who are disabled who are the young men who can't really work like normal men as long as I'm doing the work of God whether it's playing games and sharing the gospel we're helping my mother do anything that's in the house I've been like this for 25 years going on 26 if you were to ask me what is a man a man is someone who's willing to follow God cherish his family and at the same time do what he can to help.
