Many members of the cast were either former professional football players or professional wrestlers, or both. The coach was played by Burt Reynolds, who not only starred in the original film, but also played football for Florida State University.
You should check out the original The Longest Yard starring Burt Renyolds from 1974. It was a staple movie for me to watch when I was growing up in the 80's and I feel this remake is one of the rare instances where a remake is just as good as the original.
the tall guy is a former wwe wrestler hi is call the Great Khali is 2.16 cm and 157 kg havie born in Dhiraina India, google it if you wana know more
You should watch the British version called mean machine with vinny Jones and Danny dyer
Mary ik you get this alot but you are so gorgeous
Love this movie! There are a ton of wrestlers in it. Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Stone Cold Steve Austin. Really heart felt.
Great khali
Can’t forget Michael Irvin 2 got nfl players as well
@@xxfdxx4500terry crews, bill Goldberg, and Brian bosworth were all NFL players as well.
Bob Sapp.
@@ironrob27134x Super Bowl Champ Bill Romanowski as well.
Heh, I was a background extra on this film. You actually played a clip I'm in too @7:14 behind Adam next to the player with the long braids. I then jump on top of table cheering. Later I play a guard in the football scene. Was a blast, and met all the wrestlers and got photos with them. Solid 3 months of work too.
That’s dope man
That’s so cool. I remember going this movie in theaters. Excellent time.
Kevin Nash, the guard who had his steroids replaced with estrogen, is awesome in this movie. I love that he's not afraid to poke fun at himself.
It's also funny this movie has 4 wrestling world champions in it with 17 reigns combined among them.
“Why are you yelling at me lol”
@@brothadude “Why are we talking about your nipples?” “We’re not.”
Another movie that he's lots of fun in is the movie adaptation of the DOA video game. It's a really cheesy movie and intentionally so, but surprisingly fun. And for a non-comedic role, he's just scary in the Thomas Jane version of The Punisher.
@@stevensauer8539 He was also Super Shredder in Secret of the Ooze and he was hilarious in Grandma’s Boy.
@@oneearrabbitAnd he had a epic cameo in John Wick. Smartest guy in the whole movie.
Rappers, Wrestlers and Comedians really out here making one of the best football movies. This movie is actually a remake of The Longest Yard from 1974 which starred Burt Reynolds as the Paul Crews character
Love that Reynolds came back, essentially playing the same character, but this time as a COACH, instead of as the main guy. I thought he was really solid part of this film. Also, the scene where Caretaker gets murdered in Crewe's cell, then the funeral scene afterward, still tears me up to this day!
Michael Irvin too legendary cowboy wide receiver
The original is a classic but one of the few times a remake holds it own. Amazing cast of alot of recognizable guys from sports wrestling etc.
Honestly the chemistry with Burt and Adam was something I didn't expect.
A lot of movies like this never talk about what the prisoners did (unless they were wrongly convicted or something) because it would make the characters harder to sympathize with and the point of these movies is usually to sympathize with the inmates, but I think it would be interesting to see a movie like this with the full context of what crimes they committed and then see how the audience feels about them in the end.
What a useless idea
I had a cat that looked just like yours. Hes gone and will never be forgotten.
Hi Mary, Hi Lola. 🥰🐈⬛🐈The older Longest yard is great as well. Another great reaction. 👏😊🥰
"Mean Machine": Great movie
This movie is so rewatchable for me.
Clicked on this so fast 😂 this is one of those movies I can watch over and over. I can't really explain it. You always mix it up better than other channels do.
This is a great remake, well done. And it's actually not half bad.
There was the original Burt Reynolds version, this version, a version made in 2001 called "Mean Machine" with Vinnie Jones in that was a traditional football version and a newer one from Egypt a few years ago.
Still think that the Burt Reynold's version was funnier. But have to give credit where it is due, the Adam Sandler version still makes me laugh at moments I don't expect to laugh.
Burt was just amazing there. Great cast all around. Adam's remake is a fun movie to watch. But the original will always be #1 in my book. Burt was on top of his game at the time.
But Reynolds, Eddie Albert, Ed Lauter, Richard Kiel version, yes...
true, but i also had a soft spot for the jason statham adaptation. even if its technically a different film (mean machine)
Any scene with Joey Diaz gets me. Even when this movie was brand new.
The original with Burt Reynolds all the way. Not a fan of Adam Sandler.
Caretaker gets murdered, "That's illegal" 😂
William Fichtner (Captain Kaneur) is just the best. Love him in almost anything he's inn.
Lola seems like a sweetheart, my cat is not a cuddle bug. She doesn’t like to be held. 😊🐈🐈⬛
“I was just showing her a little wrestling move 💪🏼” LMAOOO that line just makes me cry 😭😭😭😂😂😂
One of my favorite characters is switowski played by bob sap an mma fighter who hated getting hit in the nose
Does Texas have capital punishment? They got an express lane to the needle.
She's Australian, so it figures she wouldn't know this. But yeah. lol... Every American knows that Texas is pretty hardcore, when it comes to crime and punishment.
Two things I know about Texas they have guns and they have capital punishment.
Your telling me.I live in Texas and one time I was at a party and cops drug me out, threw me on the ground, ripped my shirt off looking for a tattoo cause they said I robbed some bank in Chicago, took me to jail, finger printed me only to find out I would of been 6 years old at the time of the robbery.Took me back to the part, said sorry, didnt even fix my ripped shirt
RIP Burt Reynolds.
Watching the original gives some context for Burt Reynolds' character. And, though I've only seen it once in my life, is worth the watch. As others have stated, The Replacements with Keanu Reeves is another. So is Remember the Titans. (I recommend tissues for the latter)
This one is the kind of film in which we Adam Sandler play a dramatic-comedy role, and it's just great.
Burt was in the original Longest Yard from the late 60s
1974
This movie is the most stacked cast of any movie ever.
I remember this, the following day at school all I heard from my friends were the quotes! " I got the fries that will cross your eyes " 🤣🤣
In the original of this movie, Burt Reynolds is the coach/Quarterback, the part played by Sandler in this film. Many of the players in this film are World Wrestling Entertainment stars including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Bill Goldberg, Seven foot tall Kevin Nash, and the seven foot two Great Kali.
I think the original is even better played serious though. I did actually enjoy the remake though. But i actually much prefer the remake from England called "Mean Machine" switching football for English football (soccer) starring Vinny Jones and Jason Statham.. It's the most brutal soccer I've ever seen..
You mean what the rest of the world calls football... 😏
@@Caseytify yeah.. But I'm just being clear. And being born American..i tend to qualify it
“Gentle giants”
Proceeds to nearly cave in a guys face
If you’d like to see another similar kind of movie, I’d like to recommend two for you:
The original version of “The Longest Yard” and “Stir Crazy”.
Good call on Stir Crazy.
As much as I love this movie, I think having The Rock in it would have only enhanced it. He could have been either one of the Ex Cons or a Cruel Guard, either way he'd been a fun addition to the movie.
That movie is a remake of an old movie called Mean Machine(2001), witch is a remake of an older movie called The Longest Yard(1974), Burt Reynolds is the main actor in that one...
Switowski is my favorite character in the movie
Great film, I think you'll find "The Replacements" as well.
I died laughing when you were talking about gentle giants because while you were saying that Turley was sticking his big foot through Switowskis face and breaking his nose😂
A lot of people have chimed in for the original THE LONGEST YARD, and I will concur, but more importantly, I would like to see you discover some of the other great Burt Reynolds films, because for several years, he was a worldwide icon. His best works besides TLY include SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT, SHARKY'S MACHINE, THE END, WHITE LIGHTNING, and BREAKING IN.
Burt Reynolds played Adam Sandler's character in the original movie
This level of abuse is very common in the US prison system
You said at the start about wanting to watch a comedy. This movie has the most and funniest one liners i swear. A great comedy.
Proud to Say this Movie was Filmed in the my home state of New Mexico 505 luv
You are just absolutely stunning ❤ love the reactions
Mary learning that police brutality exists lol
Right lol
This movie is a classic. This was a remake of the Burt Reynolds 1974 The Longest Yard and Burt Reynolds reprises his role in the Adam Sandler version as well. They also made a British film of the film called Mean Machine which is a Soccer/Futbol of this film as well. It has a very unknown actor at that time that was in the film Jason Statham.
The Longest Yard is a good movie and please watch Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle, Mary.
Although this version was cute, the original The Longest Yard, with Burt Reynolds as the lead character was superb.
Easter Egg in this movie Burt Reynolds’s originally starred in The Original Version of The Longest Yard in 1974 Film. Burt Reynolds’s played Paul Crewe. Michael Conrad played Nate Scarborough the character Burt Reynolds’s plays in this 2005 Film.
It’s crazy to compare this comedy remake to the original which was more of a film than comedy but there were comedic moments in the original. This was a fun movie but the original is far better and is one of Burt Reynolds’s best performances and movies when he was young. I can rewatch the original many times while I have only watched this version twice
Fun fact terry crews played football professionally before acting 9:05
You beat me to it. He played linebacker.
Alot of those guys did Goldberg played for the Atlanta Falcons and alot of the wrestlers in this movie played before getting into wrestling
"Quit booing, people! Both teams are trying very hard!"
"What the hell is wrong with you? Stop actin' like a damn cheerleader!"
"Sportsmanship.....try it"
"Shut up!"
😂
UK version called Mean Machine with actual football is good, with the hardman Vinnie jones and the best character "the monk" 😂😂
Texas not only has the death penalty, death row also has an express lane.
Burt Reynolds really took that hard hit in midair.
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned but there was a British remake of this, called Mean Machine (made in 2001). The sport if European Football (soccer) not American Football and has Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham and Danny Dyer in it. It’s a good watch and, with the original 1974 version, could make a cool little trilogy.
The warrent ( James Cromwell) you might recognize him from Jurassic world fallen kingdom, he's well known from the 90's family film "Babe"
i was not expecting this video but im so fucking happy about it lol
The origional had oscar worthy performances
Tin Cup is a good sports flick as well...
Major League has gotta be reviewed. The best sports comedy movie.
Mary; there's a lot of empathy for inmates. This is coming from a guy who was in prison for 10 months for shooting three men who were breaking into his home while the courts sat and waited for my trial.
EDIT: They were ruled as justifiable h*micides, but I don't get that time back.
Mary being surprised by the police brutality 😂 gurl, this is 'Murica, and we pride ourselves in our highest of quality police brutality. 👌
lol that title is hilarious. "are people in jail actually still people???!?!??!?!!"
I love little Michael 😂😂😂😂😂
Fun fact: Burt Reynolds played Paul Crewe in the 1974 version of the logest yard
31:12 thats actually Burt Reynolds taking that massive hit
The best answer to your question at 7:48 can be found in the 1971 Stanford prison experiment conducted by Stanford University psychology professor Philip Zimbardo.
There are some documentaries of the experiment and a very realistic full length movie (“The Stanford Prison Experiment”) was made about it in 2015 staring Ezra Miller (a.k.a. “The Flash”).
The outcome of the experiment is shocking and many legal suits were filed as a result of the treatment received by the students.
The original the experiment is lso really good, the german one.
In jail... it's common to be treated like dirt.. In prison, that's a whole new fukk shit
The giant guy was known as The Great Khali in WWE , Bill Goldberg , Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kevin Nash and Brian Bosworth from Oklahoma who was one of the guards and the multitude of great actors
Burt Reynolds was the lead actor in the original version of this movie. It was a really cool cameo for him to be in this version playing a different character.
FUN FACT: not a lot of people know that this movie was a remake
They definitely did have subtitles for the giant lol
13:18 the ping pong ball in this is actually digital, the big guy couldn't play very well with the cuffs on so that was the only way they could get this scene to work
The colonel from the Freedom in Armageddon is in this too. He was in the film Go as well with Katie Holmes. That movie was a trip. Lol
This is the 3rd version of the film and all are worth watching The Mean Machine(UK) or The Longest Yard(US)(1974) Burt Reynolds, Mean Machine (2001)Vinnie Jones are the other two.
"Look here, Mr Frodo, don't get short with me."
6:00 BLEUCHER!
While it's funny, I think "The Longest Yard" is meant more as a football movie than a comedy. It has jokes, but it's no "The Waterboy." The original movie was quite a bit more serious in tone, if I recall (I only watched it once, so I don't remember the plot beat-for-beat).
We need a new remake where Adam steps into the Burt role. For those who dont know. This was a remake and Burt played the Sandler character in the older one.
Nash and Austin on the cops side. Oldberg and Khali on the cons side.
Several members of this cast were in the original movie including Burt Reynolds
this movie is a great comedy and also touches on some really good social points.
This movie is so good
This movie was so much fun. OMFG I'm old I saw this in the theater.
This is a great movie, but the prison guard with the estrogen pills is a definite standout for me 😂 He always cracks me up. He did such a great job 😆
That was Kevin Nash if I'm not mistaken lol. Too funny
@@jaxperot5654 Yep. Just checked. That’s him! He did such a great job 😂
"Why did he do that" lol the whole previous scene was about why he had to do that.
That Giant was speaking English , Weirdo.😆🤣😂🤣😎
The enormous Indian actor was also in the movie version of the 70's spy comedy show, "Get Smart,", with Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway.
This is a remake and the coolest thing about that is Burt Remolds played Adam Sandler's role in the original.
I like this movie more times better than Anger Management. That movie gets on my nerves on so many different levels. This movie is so funny 😂😂😂.
You see the original Longest Yard Burt Reynolds places the lead in the original . Funny older movie I would say 70s
the 1974 version was pretty funny this one was just as funny
Not only is this a remake of a movie (Burt Reynolds starred in the original, and had a secondary role in this movie, the same as Maverick), but there's also a British version of it called Mean Machine, starring Vinnie Jones.
Maverick was James Garner.
As remakes go, this movie isn't a terrible one. I actually like it.
But the first "Longest Yard" film is an American classic. So this movie got a lot of hate, at the time it came out, for daring to try and supplant it. I do like that Burt Reynolds agreed to be in this one, though. That gave it a little bit of credibility as a remake.
The guy Adam played basketball against to try and get him on the team is Michael Irvin, Hall of Fame NFL wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys...when they were winning super bowls;)
One of my favorites football movies, normally I can't watch sports movies either.
Paul Crewe and Lena's relationship is almost like half of Hollywood and celebrity life combined in my opinion
The big tall guy Adam Sandler is talking to is Kevin Nash a Pro Wrestler who was in WWF/WWE. He’s now a WWE Hall Of Famer. Kevin Nash was also Super Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II Secrets Of The Ooze
This movie was a remake of the 1974 movie of the same name, though it is also known as The Mean Machine. It stars Burt Reynolds. There is, however, another movie called The Mean Machine which is English and focuses more on what we Aussies call soccer. The premise is still the same though! I suggest you also check those movies out…
In Texas Capital Punishment is their hobby.
"It's Texas, I don't know if they have capital punishment"... 😄
Mary, if you like sports movies, I highly recommend “Field of Dreams” and “The Natural” (baseball) and “Hoosiers” (basketball). They are all about much more than playing sports. Great films!
Slap Shot is another great sports movie about so much more than just the sport (hockey). It's also an excellent comedy, and you can really tell the actors, especially Paul Newman, are having a lot of fun.
She may also be interested in Chariots of Fire (track and field).
And she could try the Will Ferrell sports trifecta: Blades of Glory (figure skating), Talladega Nights (auto racing), and Semipro (basketball).
Michael Irvin plays number 88 for the inmates he's a NFL Hall of Famer but he wore his jersey number in the NFL and plays the same position as well
Love this film and so funny. This is the remake of The Longest Yard which Burt Reynolds was the main Character in the film. They have a British film with an unknown actor at the time Jason Statham but soccer/Futbol called Mean Machine which is a funny British film
Terry Crews actually did play professional football in the 90s
