Common ROOF LEAK (Bathroom Vent Failure)

The 'Bathroom Exhaust Vent' can be a point of failure on a roof. To ensure this doesn't happen:
1) Don't nail near the edge
2) Use an 'Ice & Water' membrane OVER the vent flashing but UNDER the shingles (so the flashing has more coverage but it's unseen)
3) Use roofing screws instead of nails (DON'T install near the edge of the vent flashing)

I've never had an issue when nailing the vent down, but a few years ago I started using roof screws and as you pointed out I also try to go higher and further away from the edge.
