Jon And Vangelis - I'll Find My Way Home (1981)

  • Jon & Vangelis is the collaborative effort between the singer Jon Anderson (better known as lead vocalist of the British progressive rock band Yes), and the Greek synthesizer musician Vangelis. Together they released a number of successful albums in the 1980s.
The two artists probably met in the progressive rock scene of London in the 1970s. Vangelis reputedly was to join Anderson in Yes, replacing Rick Wakeman as keyboardist, but this never came to fruition. Nevertheless, Jon contributed vocals to Vangelis' Heaven and Hell (1975), harp to Opera Sauvage (1979), and vocals to See You Later (1980).
The two embarked on a series of albums between 1979 and 1991, producing the major hits "I Hear You Now" (a UK No. 8) and "I'll Find My Way Home". Anderson wrote the lyrics, and Vangelis composed the music. This was during one of Vangelis' most productive periods, and a high level of experimentation is evident on some of their tracks.

They did have Steve Howe for that. Steve couldn't write "Hark through dark ties which tunnel us out of sane existance" or, "as frriction spans the spirits mass ascending to redeem" though. I think jon just wanted something to do with his hands. Said it helped his rhythm. Sounds a bit rude. Are you that Bill Bailey.?

+Lemmy Kilmister Lemmy? : ) A big fan of metal and Motorhead, but yes, this song did just that to me. Suddenly I was 12 again, in my bedroom looking out over our snowy garden, my parents young again and full of life and not the old age pain they are in now. : '(

+Lemmy Kilmister Most of the people who'd say that wouldn't even recognise amazing stuff like this as electronic music! (It'd just be 'old' music to them) Todays overproduced drivel is just crammed down their throats. Thankfully, a lot of them reject it but it also leaves them with no appreciation for stuff like this.

Wonderful memories, sometimes it's easy to forget the partnership of Jon and Vangelis and the music they recorded... this being one such example... fond memories of a time when loved one's were still with us and we were young and often care-free. This album was interesting because the title track was an epic and in it was a fantastic lilting piano break which i still reckon has never been bettered with Anderson's vocals.

Absolutely top 24 carat gold song!! Wow, I've not heard this in over 25 years, probably more!! Today's acts should bow their heads in shame, calling their music music, as all it is is noise. This is how it should be done!!

"I get goose pimples when I hear this." Me too pal, me too! Actually the all-time billboard charts worldwide should be this song. So wonderful. So calming...

I was in Paris in '83 and met some girls at a café who wanted to know/understand the lyrics to this song. I went back their place and was introduced to an amazing, memorable piece of music..

Que dúo, que pareja. la mezcla perfecta. Una voz maravillosa e increíble de Jon y una musicalización notable de don Vangelis. Gracias por tan lindos temas.

Some electronics, great lyrics, good voice, two people. This song has heart, no hype, no smut, no lust, just innocent, beautiful, magical, lyrical - "They don't write (compose) like that anymore."

You ask me where to begin
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me where did I fall
    I'll say I can't tell you when
But if my spirit is lost
How will I find what is near
    Don't question I'm not alone
Somehow I'll find my way home
My sun shall rise in the east
So shall my heart be at peace
And if you're asking me when
I'll say it starts at the end
You know your will to be free
    Is matched with love secretly
And talk will alter your prayer
Somehow you'll find you are there.
Your friend is close by your side
And speaks in far ancient tongue
A seasons wish will come true
    All seasons begin with you
One world we all come from
One world we melt into one
Just hold my hand and we're there
    Somehow we're going somewhere
    Somehow we're going somewhere
You ask me where to begin
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me where did I fall
    I'll say I can't tell you when
But if my spirit is strong
I know it can't be long
    No questions I'm not alone
Somehow I'll find my way home
Somehow I'll find my way home
Somehow I'll find my way home
Somehow I'll find my way home

This number brings me back to the begin of the 80's. It gives me a feeling that i am in the youth again. The eighties have more brought perfect music then the time after followed. That was de
most perfect time for the music that was made by de artist themselves.

I had wandered far from God during my teens, and did some pretty awful things, this song awoke my need and love for God. I pray that my Daughters will find the path back to God
