Absolutely beautiful crabs! Rus, you get an A+ from a native Marylander!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
I'm from Baltimore, and they look absolutely on the money!!
I absolutely loved that "fail" video. Failures are as educational as success vidios. Thanks for putting ego aside and giving us that gem!
Glad you enjoyed it!
blue crab is my very fav food in the world. if the hubby and i were on the old show where the married couple have to answer a question… if they said to him “what is your wife’s fav food” he would know its blue crab. or he would just say “crab” and mess it up, haha.
Same! I could eat them everyday
this some wholesome shit right here.
Like the new pot and congrats on the beautifully steamed crab.
Your becoming a expert at the maryland blue crab steaming. They were nice and big crabs. The mustard is what us marylanders love!!! Great video sir!!
Thanks, I'm really preferring steaming over boiling when doing just crabs now days. I swear, I could have eaten all 24 crabs by myself LOL. So tasty! I'm pretty sure that basket on the new pot will hold around 5 to 6 dozen. Next time, I'm maxing it out.
im from Maryland and I dont care for the mustard
👏🏽👏🏽Yes Yessss! Now that’s how you do it, THAT’S HOW YOU DO IT🥰😋🥰😋🥰
Hey, glad to see you stop by! It's been awhile. I know how much you enjoy steamed blue crabs! It really doesn't get any better does it?
@@SmokyRibsBBQ 👋🏽👋🏽 You got that right!! Don’t get no better🥰😋🦀
great looking steamed crabs
Thanks Joe, they were so good.
Good stuff love your channel keep them coming .
Now that's more like It. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Gini! Yeah, these turned out much better than the last ones LOL. Thanks for watching!
It’s less messy as well! I love the mustard!!
Always enjoy watching your stuff, Rus. Sorry I’ve been away. I hope you’re well, brother! Outstanding video as usual! Cheers 🍻
Hey Mike, thanks for stopping by brother! I sure appreciate it! Hope you and your family had a great weekend.
I LOVE Blue Crabs! Great video, Rus. Thanks for making all of us HUNGRY! lol -Lisa H
You and me both Lisa. LOL, your welcome ;)
Loved your video!! Keep up the good work!!
Thank you so much!!
Great looking blue crabs Rus and nice video. You need to do a video on deep frying blue crabs. There’s a place in PT Arthur that severs them that way and they’re very favorable.
Thanks again for sharing.
Awesome job Rus! I love your videos brother, keep on cooking.
Thanks so much
Boy oh boy my mouth is watering!!! I live in Dothan AL. Love, love this so much. Crawfish, shrimp and crab are my favourite. Lived in Biloxi most of my life and once a year looked forward to eating a fried soft shell crabs poboy. Love it so much!!!
So good!
Well done Russ 👏👏👏
Man your liking the steam method comment has put a huge smile on my face. Great job Rus the mustard powder is something new to me Ill have to give that a try :)
I hope you do, it makes a delightful difference. Thanks for checking the video out!
Hey Rus! Greetings from OS. Yesterday, my wife and I got 3 dozen and I followed your boil recipe from the steamed vs. boil video. I didn't have the veggies to put in on hand but I followed your timing and seasoning, including the bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce. I don't have a boil boss but I used the hose on shower to cool the pot while gently stirring, then soaked them for 30 minutes. They were fantastic! Now I have to steam some like this!
Good deal! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the feedback! Steamed are really good as well!
Thanks Rus for sharing. This looks like something I'd like to try. I've usually boiled seafood but this looks much simpler and just as delicious.
I've always boiled as well, but every since the first steamed crabs I did, I was sold on steaming them.
Looks super delicious great 👍👍🇩🇪🇩🇪
Rus that's a feast had many times here in Jersey growing up. Many good memories crabbing. From drop lines to traps. Jersey blue claws. Thanks brother!
Hard to beat good blue crabs. Has to be my favorite above all other seafood. And that is saying a lot. Thanks for checking it out Tommy!
@@SmokyRibsBBQ the meat is so sweet. Omg Rus, it's 1:26 am here in Va. I want some now. Good job 👍 try some Zanarans (spelling not sure) but it is the best. O bay is good on the shells. But crab boil (liquid) gets the meat. Oh man
Never had blue crabs steamed but these look tasty! Nice work Rus and a very nice new cooker / steamer there!!
I know you would love them Rob. Really great tasting.
Would love this with dinginess crabs.
I've done it with Dunginess and King crab, and it does give them a lot more flavor. Only thing is, you still get the same texture that they have. No crab can compete with the Blue crab for it's sweet tender meat and mustard.
Crab cook redemption complete🦀👍The Into the AM joggers and shorts are great quality too.
Yes, I had to make it happen! Loving the Into The AM merch. I'm gonna get some of those shorts LOL
Perfect this time I can't wait to crab season april
Russ is the man, keep it up!
You gotta love those little critters.
Hi Rus! I love the redemption! What an amazing upgrade! I only wish I could have a need for such great equipment. I always learn so much from you. These crabs look so delicious! Dry mustard is one of my favorite ingredients, so very retro! Double bonus! If I ever get to Biloxi, I would happily make the cocktails if you make this!!!! Have a great week my friend! 🍸💖
Hey Jill, thanks so much for watching. I was really surprised how well the mustard powder went with the other two seasonings. Great flavor on these crabs. I told Jack in a Facebook comment that the next time I do a big seafood cook, he was getting an invite, and I'm extending that invite to you as well. I know it would be a long shot of you actually being able to come down to south Mississippi, but I'm going to invite you and your husband just the same. Would be great just to hang out and socialize and eat well. Cocktails sounds great to me 😋
@@SmokyRibsBBQ That....would be amazing!!! Thank you! 🍸💖
Outstanding! Beautiful and I love your channel! I'm a native Marylander married to a Biloxi Girl living in South Florida. (She's from Shorecrest Road if you're familiar). I always put them in heavily iced water and it makes them go somewhat dormant and you can cook them without them pulling each other's claws off.
Thank you! That road does sound familiar to me. Yes, I like cooking them way down before steaming as well. Makes the process so much easier, and very true about them pulling each others claws off.
So relaxing. Love these videos. Need smellovision though!
Rus, Success!! Like the new pot, also like the tip of the dried mustard, JOs & Old Bay gotta try that combo!! Been eating MD steamed Blue crabs since I was five. Glad you crushed it this time!! 😛😛
Thank you, I sure appreciate you watching. Yes, check that combo out for sure! Excellent!

Oh ya, that looked tasty Rus. I wish we lived close to fresh seafood, Paivi was over here drooling.
Ron, these crabs are so addictive! I had to pull myself away so I didn't eat them all LOL! Next time you two are down this way, I will personally steam up a bunch of crabs for everyone.
emmmm man that looks good vinegar works great.. and the old bay is perfect on crabs..well done bravo
Been watching your videos since 2014 you are the man 😎👌🏽
Awesome thank you!
well done
What a wonderful video your boils and stemming videos are so amazing they will make everyone watching them mouth water I swear you could outcook Gordon Ramsay or any professional for a matter of fact
Thanks so much, I truly appreciate that!
Russ sorry for the fail, Welcome to Baltimore
You nailed it. Just the way I do it Love just Old Bay. Try some corn on the cob and sausage steamed on top with the spices on top
Thanks for your videos
Joe
I like how those blue crabs turned out. They sure look tasty. Those are pretty awesome looking T-shirts too. I dig the design on them, and they do look very high quality and very comfortable. Cheers, Russ!
Thanks for watching Dwayne, I appreciate it man!
Glad things worked out this time.. I love some blue crab.. and that's a sexy pot :)
Thanks for checking it out Jaxx!
Awesome video. Been watching you lately. Respect from Iraq.
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Redemption was yours Rus!! Great job and dang that is a very nice pot you got!! I guess Stainless is the way to go brother!! Looks like you had a great 4th and now I am starving for some Blue Crab!!!
Stainless is the way to go for steaming for sure, but not boiling. This pot couldn't hold a candle to my boiling pots. Aluminum transfers heat 16 times faster than what stainless can, plus my pots are high performance with the special bottom on them. Get you a case of crabs brother...., uh wait, you know what I mean, get you a bushel of crabs, yeah that. 😉
@@SmokyRibsBBQ hahahaha thanks for clarifying that!! Because I am to lazy to head down to the corner bar tonight!! hahahaha Thanks for the good info Rus! I am going to try this one of these days for sure!!
Great video thank you I'm I just got my first seafood boil pot what can I do to protect it thank you
If it's stainless, just store it. If it's aluminum, I would wash it well after each cook, especially if you used acidic products such as vinegar, lemon, etc. Store indoors if possible
Looks good russ we use j and o down in south georgia
Hey your new pot is so nice & shiny. That is not a beer abuse :)) I have never had those :(( Those looked amazing !! I know I would love them 💗 yummy yum.
Hi Paivi! Yes, nice new pot. It did really well too. I hope you get to try steamed blue crabs one day, I know you will love them!
@@SmokyRibsBBQ Very good. Yeah I hope so too but for now....drooling is all I can do :))
Hello from Maryland.
Hello, thanks for stopping by!
Good Morning Rus
that looks delish! If you are looking to do some heavy duty boiling and want a pot to last, make sure to get a SS pot with a tri-ply clad bottom or an aluminum pot thats 3 to 4mm thick.
My 120 quart aluminum boiling pot is 6mm thick, plus it has a special design on the bottom that acts as a heat sink, and reduces over 50% of heat loss and can have 15 gallons of water at a high boil in 8 minutes. That pot is a keeper. Thanks for watching
Nice ❤️
Loved your Maryland steamed blue crabs video💕 I just moved to Biloxi area, where do you suggest I buy blue crabs? Thank you and keep cooking🤩
There are various places. Desportes is one I recommend and also Lee’s International Asian market sells them live.
@@SmokyRibsBBQ Awesome! Thank you ☺️
Great looking crabs. I put on one dozen add beer on top of crabs add seasoning add another dozen beer seasoning and so on. Enjoy
Thank you! Great tip on using the beer!
The crabs look so delicious! 😋Did you get them from the same supplier you told me about from your older video?
No I bought these locally. They came from our Gulf of Mexico here.
@@SmokyRibsBBQ awesome video thanks for sharing! I love Blue crabs so much I watch ALL blue crab content. I'd rather cook them myself though than get them delivered already cooked.
Nice redemption Russ
Oh yeah steamed blue claws... got me drooling. Now throw in the steamers next ... little necks and top necks clams I'll bring the butter 😛
Any suggestions for a real good 100qt boiling pot? Got my first double jet burner (Bayou Classic SV22-18 in. Dual Jet Vortex) and looking at the boil boss ring next. Started doing boils when I was 16 (10 years ago) and ready to get serious.
Look into high performance cookers. Expensive but gets the job done like it should be.
@@SmokyRibsBBQ thanks 👍 price isn't as bad as I expected. We going to have one killer shrimp boil here in East Tennessee on Labor day🍤
General question. I have to replace my aluminum crab steamer that would hold 3 doz. Xl crabs. It has no markings so I don't know how large it is. How many doz. of Xl crabs can a 62 qt. steamer hold? Can't find the answer on the web.
Not sure, but based on the two dozen regular sized crabs I did in this, I'm sure it would hold 6 dozen no problem
I live in South Mississippi
Where did you buy the pot?
You have a link to it?
That pot came from Bayou Classic website
When we use the mustard, we are not using those dainty little bottles. We buy that stuff in 5lb bags and toss it on by the handful! It not only adds flavor but helps to keep the real spice blend from rinsing off the crabs. I also use handfuls of Flaked kosher salt with it. Check first to see how much salt there is in the spice blend you are using. When they are done right, there should be a layer of the three coating the whole outside of the crabs, and if we are doing corn with it, we toss them in for the last 7 minutes of the cook with the same spice/salt/mustard system. As for beer... Some do, some don't. It tends to give a bit of flavor and makes em a bit more juicy, but the water/vinegar/beer should never quite touch the bottom of the steamer basket or it will rinse off the seasoning and impart too much salt to the crabs. That is the best part of steaming and it leaves a thick enough layer to scrape it off in large quantities to eat with the crab meat. Don't tell my heart doctor I said that or I'll catch hell for it, but it makes em just the right amount of spicy.
Thanks for your input 🙄
When it’s heavily season like that does it go into the meat? I always wanted to try it but I always end up boiling it lol
It only gets all over your fingers, which transfers it to the meat as your picking through it. Unlike boiling it doesn't actually get into the crab, but you should try it once. There will be plenty of great flavor there.
Redemption!
Another great video I think the dual jet killed your aluminum pot. I think stainless steel is the better way to go as long as you can get a think gauge steel. Thanks Again Russ
I never tried steaming before but they do look good. Do the females still have the good orange fat when you steam them?
Yes they do!
Steaming makes them retain more and concentrates the mustard too. Nothing gets rinsed away but a lot of the salt.
If you take a knife and shave the apron on the bottom when you pull your back fin and legs off you will get big chunks of crab. I am from St Mary's county MD.
*Rus, Gulf Coast oldest teenager!* 🌴😎👍
Ha
@@SmokyRibsBBQ 🌴😉👍
Hi, where can I buy this pot?
It’s a Bayou Classic. I ordered from their website
Baltimore crabs 😋😋
Man I wish I was your neighbor. The best seafood we have here in Iowa is Red Lobster. They're ok but I'm sure yours is way better. Have a great day brother.
Yeah, it's really hard to get extremely fresh seafood in many parts of the US. If you ever happend to find yourself in my area, let me know. I'll hook you up with our best.
@@SmokyRibsBBQ thanks Rus, I appreciate that.
That all we use here JO # 2 old bay just for crab cake
Maryland residents approved this video ✔
I keep hearing that bed bugs are a bigger problem in Baltimore than the crabs. Those are some scary big crabs though! I'd hate to catch a case of those!
To get more meat easier use a rolling pin to squeeze the meat out of the legs.
do you you need some more JO
I ordered that from Amazon. I'll just order more when I'm ready for it. Thanks Jimmy!
Where do you buy your carbs i don't think I've ever seen a carb with that much mustard in'em that dude was loaded.!!!
I buy them locally here in Biloxi Mississippi. They come right out of the Gulf of Mexico here.
@@SmokyRibsBBQ can you tell me the name of the place. Thanks for the reply
@@mustangtez4060 I normally buy mine from Desportes Seafood market, but it was 4th of July weekend and they had already had all their crabs claimed by call in orders, so I went to Lee's International market around the corner and they had them live and fisty so I bought them there.
@@SmokyRibsBBQ thanks for the info. And You should do a video of dungeness boiled vs steamed.!!
so, i see the flies all around and on the pot, and you have mentioned them taking over in other videos. if you get a fly trap or two, where you fill it with water and hang it (as it has a stinky packet of God knows what in it, lol) and it will draw those flies in the the traps by the hundreds.
Yep they are terrible in the summer months. I’ve used those traps before. Helps but doesn’t eliminate the problem entirely
@@SmokyRibsBBQ , i understand but if you add smelly stuff to the “mix” like raw fish,, shrimp or crab, then they cant resist it, just try adding smelly stuff to it, and let it “rot” and they go way faster into that than to you. i figured that out just by chance last summer. also, hang them away from you, so they are not being brought too close to you.
Chesapeake Bay has the best Blue Crabs hands down!!!! #TeamJOSpice!!
I agree! I've had them before, and they are so meaty! A lot of bang for your buck!
@@SmokyRibsBBQ You put out some awesome videos!!
I grew up in Southern Maryland and worked on my grandpa's boat running a 5000 foot trotline on the Patuxent River. Crabs were much more plentiful back then. 15 bushels by noon was nothing. Now crabbers are coming back with about a bushel and a half most of the time. It's just not worth the time or the gas anymore.
It's hard times. For all Wateen. My family were all Watermen. 💔🙏🙏👍
Not exactly how we do it in Maryland, but to each his own.
The price of crab is ridiculous. The chesapeake Bay is right there. I'll be catching and cooking my own this year.
We catch our own a lot. The price isn’t that bad here on the Gulf Coast, but I do enjoy crabbing
Guess I'm a Yankee. I can do 2 crabs, maybe a third, but a dozen at a sitting? No way. I'm hungry... Nearest crabs are 15 miles away
Rus! What hat is that!?
It's from Brown Water Banter. A local podcast in my area here on the coast
Great video and a good representation of MD Steamed Crabs. If ya wanna see how we catch em check out my videos and if ya get up here look me up.
Next time try ripping the tops of the crabs off and rinsing the guts out before you steam or boil. Makes a cleaner eating experience and gets way way more flavor into the meat. I've never understood why people boil them whole like that.
Thanks, but no. A lot of the natural crab flavor comes from cooking with it still in tact. Plus you lose the mustard by rinsing. I've done it exactly like you said plenty of times just for a cleaner experience, but I always go back to doing the whole.
Put a coin on the bottom of pot!
NO WATER ..
your using a bud light. this video is now a fail. time to do another Crab steam.
This video is also 3 years old. Long before Bud Light thought it would be a good idea to go woke.
@@SmokyRibsBBQ I know. that's why I said its NOW a fail.
