maybe there is another video on footwork, but I don't think anyone should learn foot traps until they know and have great footwork and shifting to different angles. Once you have that down pat, the foot traps are very easy...
I would disagree because a novice takes more advantage of foot trapping someone whose footwork is talented than a talented person has trapping a novice. As a matter of fact, any good martial arts teacher will teach you how to flow through the floor and not focus on footwork as a technique on its own unless you're doing something like taekwondo that is a kicking art. the only footwork you really need to know is a teacher feet to move out to the blind side. Once you over take someone's Blindside that's it.
I wonder why the aversion to the hook step around the ankle? I feel like if I can take advantage of someones bad positioning, or whip them off center, that I can use elevation change (tightening the angle on the hooked ankle) to put pressure on the trapped ankle.
I don't advocate hooking because it often sacrifices more of your balance than it steals from the opponent. It also intertwined and commits you more, which can detain you and be problematic against multiple attackers. Finally it can also lead to injuries if you fall together interlocked.
Did he say that he got his toe torn off from being thrown while someone was standing on his foot? Because that's a seriously painful way to lose a toe I would imagine damn!
It was terrible. Complete rotational traumatic dislocation . It’s reattached of course but all metal and the mid joint doesn’t crimp so it took getting used too. doesn’t set off the newer metal detectors anymore thankfully.

Absolutely. You must master your basic footwork first.
