    I just got a used quest 2 256gb with upgraded head strap and case for 200. I thought it might have been a scam but the guy just wasn’t using it.

      Nice! For real, sometimes people just want something gone fast, and sometimes it's someone who got it as a gift, so they don't really care.
      $200 for it is a hell of a score.

    Hope this helps anyone! Below I'll constantly update some additional tips that other people have had, so feel free to comment if there's anything else you think belongs in this category of "buyer beware" and such.
    #1 - 𝗪𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀: From "MostlyPoorDecisions" on Reddit: _It is good to check for worn cables / ports as well. A usb-c port that was used and abused can have the cable fall right out - no good if you are trying to usb link or add on a battery pack. For tethered headsets, the display port cable or connector could be damaged. Kinda hard to test without connecting it to a PC, but definitely something to be aware of._
    To reduce strain on the ports in the future, use cable ties at certain points of the headstrap to ensure only the cable takes the blow, and not the USB-C port.
    #2 - 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘀: The headstrap that comes with the quest isn't everyone's favourite, so look at companies such as Aubika, BoboVR, and Kiwi Design for some great alternatives! Many of them have battery headsets as well that'll help you play for longer!
    #3 - 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀: The durability of different controllers will vary, so make sure you test out the controller first. The Valve Index controllers in particular are notorious for being very fragile when dropped, and being worn down over time.
    #4 - 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: Quest 2 is now $200 USD retail, so you should be looking at ~$100 USD for a used one, maybe more if they include accessories.

    I recently bought a used one and made sure to clean everything I could, I just bought the polywatch because I noticed little bit of scratches. I think my left controller has a tiny bit of drift but i increased the deadzone to alleviate some of that. I'm enjoying it so far but definitely gonna save for whenever quest 3 or a newer headset drops for PC because I've realized I leave things in better condition than others lol.

    • @FrontwaysLarry
      @FrontwaysLarry  Год назад +5

      Nice! Yeah that deadzone will get ya. I've heard you can more or less fix the drift by cracking open the controller, but you'd have to look that one up. lol

    If you get a used headset . Please please please. Buy a new face gasket, its like wearing some elses used underpants without washing them, yuck.

  • @BuzzBazzJ
    @BuzzBazzJ Год назад +6

    I just bought a used Quest 2 256gb version for 300$ and everything had to be cleaned. The controllers looked like they where dipped in cheeto crap, the straps where stiff and brown, the headset was dirty but no major on the outside but was really nasty and dusty on the inside, the headset strap needs to be replaced if I can’t wash it better, and the face mount was just disgusting and hair was almost growing out of it. The charger was not in the box and the cable included was a A-C straight cable. Took me a decent day or two to clean most, and I ordered a replacement face mount because it was free, but while the ctrl straps have been soaking in bakingsoda+toothpaste mix and in and out of alcohol bath, they still have some discoloration and I might just buy new ones when buying a new headstrap. Headset is from 2019. I feel like I got cheated, but I’ve had fun cleaning it and fun playing HL2 VR.

    • @FrontwaysLarry
      @FrontwaysLarry  Год назад +5

      Damn, that sounds like it was an ordeal my dude!
      Hopefully was all worth it in the end as a job well done, because yikes, it sounds like you rescued this poor Quest 2 from a broken home. lol
      Also HL2 in VR is definitely something I need t play more of. Plays so damn smooth.

    • @BuzzBazzJ
      @BuzzBazzJ Год назад +2

      @@FrontwaysLarry Yeah I wasn’t expecting to have to clean it that much. I took progress pictures of all the pads, q-tips, toothpicks and tape I had to use🤮😂 I guess I can’t expect to get something close to new condition, but I was expecting something different than what felt like it came from a kegger😂😅 I mean I couldn’t get the battery covers off the controllers because they where stuck. Not sure whether or not I should break the “no longer warranty” seal to open all of it up and properly clean, but I’m not a fan of the glue on the controllers😑 It’s fine enough for the time until I get antsy😅
      Oh HL2 VR is so much fun! I the game just feels incredible! Just had a few hiccups with some texture mods on the workshop, but even stock it’s great. Would have loved to see a texture or even just a mesh/bumpmap upgrade for the entire game and VR would the only way to play it. Right now everything looks great at a little distance, but really flat up close. Yeah, I’m surprised how smooth it runs even with a 1070. Like it should be the first thing most people should try in VR, it’s that good, and damn cheap!

      How did you get a free replacement mount for free?

    • @BuzzBazzJ
      @BuzzBazzJ 3 месяца назад

      @@realizedvisions oh sorry. Not a full replacement. When I registered the headset on my account I was told there was a rubber face covering available for free. It is only a cover for the original foam, so the frame that came with the box, that has the foam, can be clad in rubber. I liked the thought, but in practice it’s only good if you don’t sweat much, which I do, so it’s not as useful as I first hoped for.

    Currently looking to buy one for my birthday and its bought less then a year ago comes with Official Oculus Link Cable and its priced at 370 USD but i can probably get it down to 330 from the seller. Is this a good deal if i make sure to check the headset before?

    • @FrontwaysLarry
      @FrontwaysLarry  Год назад

      If you're planning to play wired to your PC anyway, it's not a bad deal! Retail price is $399 USD, so it's not incredible but the link cable would cost you a pretty penny if bought new.
      As long as the price works for you, and you check it for defects, I think you're golden! Especially if you can haggle them down to a little less still. A lot of people are selling their headsets for like $200-250 USD near me, but if not many are listed in your area then not much competition to drive that general price down.

      Mid-tier overall. 6 years ago the 1080 Ti was out, which was far better than the 1080. My i5-8400 was also definitely overshadowed by the i7-8700K.
      It may have been a little higher than mid-tier with many rocking a GTX 970 or any other CPU, but regardless still a cheap and capable VR solution today. A while back I bought a used i5-8400 for $50 CAD for a media PC build (GTX 1660 inside), with the entire PC budget of about $400 CAD in the end, fully capable of VR.
