The secret: you're already in Choiceless Awareness How can this be? We don't choose what we think, nor what we value. No consciousness can. Consciousness is the presentation and awareness OF values. OF preference. OF will. This sounds crazy, but just look at your own mind: thought after thought, accompanied by feelings. You don't 'choose' any of them but even if you did, your 'choice' would be you expressing what you wanted: and you don't choose what you want. To choose is just to express want/will/preference you already have. Control is the illusion. Which means you're not in control of what you do next, but also you're not in control of the fact that you're going to judge it. You're not in control of the fact that you have a conscience, even if it's wrong sometimes. It's mostly right. You're not in control of the fact that you're going to make mistakes AND feel guilty. That's why Buddha said, "Life is suffering." Because seeing that you are at the mercy of will (God's will, but you don't have to believe in God), is seeing that you're not 'THE CHOOSER.' Nothing could be: not even God. Because if God does things bc they're 'best,' then there's a worst/best framework out there that God is desiring to abide by and also abiding by (hence, not in control). But if he does them because he just wants them that way, then he's also not in control there either: because no consciousness chooses what it wants, even if it wants things for all great reasons. This is what Buddhists mean by 'no self,' though they've forgotten it. There is no chooser. You're watching yourself think, feel, act, and experience the implications of your actions. On repeat, for forever. But you never know what you'll think of next, and it could change your life.
