The line, “It came with a black dude but he kept getting pulled over”, was ad-libbed by Wil Smith on the spot. Tommy Lee wasn’t expecting it and it took all his will power not to bust out laughing. The director loved the reaction and kept the take in the film.

I definitely don't hate this film at all. It's not as good as the first, but it's positives still outweigh the flaws of the story. But Tommy Lee Jones is one who very seldom gets to express real and genuine emotions in his characters, and this was a perfect opportunity for him to do it more. I don't mind it being ambiguous as to whether Laura was K's daughter as I don't like being spoonfed in stories, but with what little interaction we got between him and Laura in the end, Tommy Lee Jones and Rosario Dawson had a great connection that should have been explored more earlier and could have added so much more depth to K's character. I'm really glad bringing him back at least served a point in the story and was the narrative was built around that aspect rather than just bringing him back for convenience-sake for J to have his old partner back.

"A filler episode of a Men in Black show" is the best summary of this film I've ever heard. This is exactly the kind of mild, semi-predictable character story with a villain B-plot you expect from one of many episodes of a show, but not what could be, like you said, the last shot you ever get at a full cinematic release. It's not that there's anything necessarily WRONG with what they did....it just really doesn't do anything to take advantage of the scale of the medium available to it.
MiB3 is like the antithesis to that, though. I thought MiB2 was decent....then I saw MiB3 and realized just how far of its full potential it really fell. MiB3 feels like everything MiB2 should have been. At the end of the day I'm just glad they got the opportunity to squeeze it out, because like others have said, it's easily my favorite of the three.

As with most sequels to box office hits, it's a bit too aware of its audience. It pays too much fan service. It allows itself to be so confident in its brand that it becomes slapstick with how little they try to keep it believable.
The good news is that part 3 is actually a good movie. It makes a solid attempt to build on the lore instead of just going, "Hey, guys! Remember the dog? Remember the alien whose head grows back? Remember the cockroaches?"

When I watched the MIB films, I never really applied that cinematography/screenwriting lens to it, so the specific strengths and weaknesses of each film did elude me. But your analysis of the differences between the first and second films do resonate with me. For what it's worth, the third film doubles down on the character building focus (like this film) rather than a world building focus (like the first), but they do so with much greater cohesion of story and memorable impact, at least IMO. 20:29 they got a sprint and a Burger King… Yeah, that makes sense
24:06 classic steam coming out of the ears… Or was it smoke either way it's a classic cartoon gag and I love it
26:05 I feel like they are putting a little bit of cartoon logic into this, and I love it because the whole shooting him through the roof thing to his legs stick out from the ceiling. It's also a classic cartoon shtick.
46:33 I think you guys definitely need to see the cartoon it came right after the first one

They did expand in the story. Between the first on and the second one they did release a couple cartoon series. But only those that watched cartoons on Saturday mornings would have known that.

Agree that they missed the opportunity to display the depth of the characters and K's connection to the princess. If they leaned into that, it would have made a greater movie. Also thanks for the shout-out (if it was me) it took me by surprise!

The shoutout was indeed for you Phoenix! Thank you for your support and your generosity. Exactly! Wished we got some more backstory instead because to us that was way more interesting than what was going on.

@divyanshsahai Dude, you gotta stop harassing them, I've seen you reply the exact same thing in a couple comments. I appreciate your enthusiasm for the movie and your desire to watch the media knights react to it, but repeating the same reply ad nauseum isn't going to accomplish anything.
So relax and be patient, and if they decide to react to it, all the better. If not, maybe learn a lesson.

I really liked this movie, but while it is not as good as the other two films, I still enjoyed it. But mostly because I was a fan of the cartoon series, which is what this movie reminded me of. It's funny that you mention it felt like a "filler" story because that's why it reminds me of the cartoon, and why I personally never considered it a disappointing sequel.

I still love the MIB franchise and remember watching these as a kid when they came out and loving them. But still, definitely a missed opportunity for the first 3 movies to be one of the great trilogies i reakon, if only they were made and written just that little bit better. There also isn't really many other alien comedy trilogies, so they had a chance to be a big part of movie history in a niche that hasn't been done much in terms of trilogies. But still, very fun and easy movies to just put on and have laugh without thinking too much. The 1st one really was great though. I have fond memories of that and probably come back and watch it every couple years
